People give PackPride a lot of shit, but if you filter out the white noise bs, it really isn't a bad forum. ESPECIALLY if you compare it to a lot of other scout/rivals boards. Yeah, it's got the stereotypical old men who don't really get the whole internet thing, but it's also got quite a few really funny and knowledgeable people.

Sat next to an older man while getting my oil changed. I could tell he was probably a unc fan. So i asked him If he followed carolina football. He said he did ans he thought it was pretty bad. Seemed to think blake probably eas involved. He then paused for about 2 min. And sure enough "well i guess we just have to wait till basketball season."

He did t seem to want to talk about it anymore.

You can't honestly believe this. I can't get enough of this stuff and I'm one of the more "focus on us, not UNC" people on these boards. Although I have a very strong dislike for UNC, I would say that it's less than average compared to most State fans. Having said that, here are the reasons why it is so big:

- You said it yourself, they are our rival. They are also THE rival. I don't like Maryland, Duke, Wake, etc...but there is no arguing who our chief rival is and probably always will be. Like it or not, we are also the inferior rival. They own head-to-head records in almost every sport, and definitely in the major ones, by an extremely wide margin. They have more championships and national "prestige."

- It's not a State-perpetuated myth...they DO have a "holier-than-thou" attitude. Their fans do believe that they are a public-Ivy school. So to see this scandal involving illegal recruiting tactics and cheating with tutors makes it even juicier and entertaining.

- This directly affects us. From winning football games to recruiting. They are our chief recruiting rival. They have been KILLING us in recruiting the past couple years, especially in-state recruiting. The possible death blow that might hit them will pay huge dividends for our local recruiting in the foreseeable future. It will also help us in our head-to-head matchups and conference standing in the next few years. Like it or not, UNC was a program on the rise. We've seen how hard it is to build programs in basketball when you have neighbors that are doing so well (UNC and Duke in basketball)...UNC being the premiere program in the state in football definitely hurt us. With them on their way down, it can only help us in our journey upward.


We're a mediocre team playing a mediocre non-conference opponent this Saturday. I'm actually really excited about the game because it won't be some cream-puff like Western Carolina. That being said, what is there to talk about right now?? We don't have any big things going on before the game. No big injury updates or crazy line-up changes.

So that, sir, is why this thread is THAT much more popular than our current State/UCF thread right now. Common sense if you ask me (also, this thread is now two months long...where the other one isn't even a week long).

Well you're wrong then. Look at the the past million BCS participants. You don't needs tons of stars...but you need some...and right now, we don't have many.

And I doubt our players care 1/100th as much as most State fans do. Unless they grew up as State fans, then they probably only know what's being said around campus.
