Some 340 blocks had four-bolt mains; probably had to release a number of them in order to use them in the Trans Am series.
A lot of the new manufacture Mopar Performance blocks do too.

Not surprisingly they make aluminum too, but probably $8000 dollars. 4/14/2015 10:07:51 AM |

My 255 LPH fuel pump stranded me once, almost twice. I replaced it with a 340 LPH Aeromotive. After I had already received the new pump, I found some terribly-rigged wires (myself to blame, years ago) and re-did all of it. Not sure if the 255 is quite dead, so it's laying around as a spare.
I haven't gotten and stayed on it lately, but I think there's a lot of fuel to pull back on my tune with the higher flow.
My Duralast alternator died. I replaced it with an Ultima (O'Reilly's) alternator for a Nissan Quest (80 amps upgraded to 110 amps). Alternator died on the day I was to go to Zmax test-n-tune

eh, the mopar was swiss cheese.
so was the amc hornet i looked at yesterday (yes, im serious. that would have been awesome).
next candidate is a 1965 tempest. never done a pontiac before, but i actually have a 389 laying around i could bore and stroke to the magic 421.
it has a fresh automatic but im concerned the owner doesnt know if its a th350 or 400 -_-
blue on blue four door, nothing fancy. looks to be in good shape. i really hate replacing floor pans (OCD) and that was the big problem with the past two selections.
i also looked at a 1950 ford with a flathead, but its not going to be racing anything and it was rusted all to shit inside too. deceptive craigslist photo taking! 4/15/2015 10:27:28 AM |

when you bought the G8 did you consider a new model GTO? 4/15/2015 11:23:52 AM |
BlackJesus Suspended 13089 Posts user info edit post |
Nope I wanted a V8 coupe or sedan. I hate cars like the GTO/Camaro/Mustang that have a back seat that only a midget/small child can sit in. I can comfortably sit in the back seat behind myself in the G8 (Demonstrated this to a guy that was interested in buying one at the Autofair).
The GTO could have been an excellent car, but the styling/interior was off, bad suspension, heavy, and slow. 4/15/2015 12:26:54 PM |

Got my SR back. Had it rebuilt by HP Engines in Norwood NC. Old block had detonation on #1 and #2 cyls, so I had to grab a spare block and get new pistons. Head, rods, etc were all fine.

wait so you didn't drop the money on rods?
i mean even with a cheap set of eagles you'd be set for 4-5 hundred hp right?

Complete tear down of the engine, tear down of other bottom end, cleaned everything, bore/hone, decked block (and decked head too? I don't remember), polished crank, all new bearings, new pistons/rings, new valve guides, all new gaskets, (maybe other stuff I'm forgetting), and complete reassembly came out to ~$1800 (labor + parts + tax).
Too many wheels. Off the top of my head... I think 6 sets? Plus the stock IS300 wheels over there. Tires come and go with drift/track events.
Quote : | "whoa.....are those old Conquest wheels?" |
Ya, I have a bunch of Starion/Conquest wheels. Owned at least eight different sets over the years. Sold all the x7"s and x8"s, down to eight 16x9 SHP rears, the rare wide ones.

Quote : | ".. yep time for a bigger turbo and more fuel !!!" |
Nah, 2871 is already big enough for my needs and 740cc is big enough to handle the 2871. Time to turn it down to 15psi and still make plenty of power for any event around here.
Quote : | "What was the cause of the detonation?" |
Don't know for sure, but likely a combo of a hot drift day plus a wastegate set to ~20psi spiking to ~22psi plus whatever else funky may have been going on
Also, since I bought the engine built/used, I can't say for certain that the pistons in there were stock compression? My ROM tune is for stock comp, soooooo possible other det source. But the new pistons are stock comp, so no worries there now.
Anyhow, it suspiciously started having a bunch of oil blow-by at Piedmont but otherwise ran fine. Enough detonation to damage two cyl sleeves and pinch the rings in those two pistons, but not bad enough to noticeably lose compression. I still drove it for another few weeks after that. In fact, I only took the engine out for a rebuild because I cracked the oil pan and figured I should have it checked during the downtime.4/17/2015 12:03:16 PM |

Tried it today on the way to get the G27. AFR down in the 9's but still consistent. Cuts out a little going to redline. What an enticing drive though I got to see an Audi S7, C6 corvette, WS6, and STi Keep in mind I commute through farm country and never get to see anything.

Took me three days to get a plain ol' Nissan clutch alignment tool. None of these stupid local parts stores have anything useful in stock. They had to order in a clutch slave too. And spark plugs.
Anyway, finally put on the manifolds, coolant stuff, oil stuff, and clutch. Dropped in the engine and got as far as two bellhousing bolts before realizing I had forgotten to put the dust plate between the engine and trans. Currently debating whether or not I should care.

Removed the Integra's inner door panel, so that I could pop out a big dent in the door. The dent being a result of a drunk driver hit and run on my car while it was parked in front of my house last summer Got most of the dent out, not all of it...still, it looks better than before.
Then, since the panel was off, tried to figure out why the window glass was loose. Failed at finding the problem there, and I didn't feel like "double downing" and removing the inner door panel to investigate further - for fear of fucking things up further 4/27/2015 8:50:46 AM |
