I think Warren will be solid of the bench, and one of those guys that when he is on, he's ON. i can see him going for 20+ in a multiple games.

but i can also see him go for 5 or 6.

I think one thing about Warren, like Spain, when he's hot he'll be hot for a few games in a row. that could be huge in a tournament run.

it will also be cool to see how Gott will use different line ups.

Kinda tough to project his minutes, I think he's gonna need a season to develop a good shot selection and be very valuable for us though.

I'd say he'll probably bust a few crappy non-conf teams for 15-20 points when he gets big minutes in a blowout, but his ACC numbers will be somewhat limited.

I'll go with:

14 mpg, 5.4 ppg, 2.3 reb, 0.8 ast, 1.3 to, 0.4 stl, 0.3 blk, .48/.68/.29 shooting %.

I just don't think he's going to get the kind of consistent minutes this year that he'd need to really flourish. Another year in the weight room and to adapt to NCAA competition and I think he'll become an easy double digit scorer though.

It would be great if Warren shot so well that he cut into Wood's minutes, but I can't see that happening. We score an inordinate amount of points in the paint. With so many slashers & post players on the team, we need a guy to stretch out defenses if they try to collapse on us, and that's Wood.

Mcadoo was projected to go higher than all of the players that left unc early last year, despite being a reserve. he's a fuckin' beast.

MacAdoo is a great athlete and pro prospect, but he looked bad out there for most of the year in a reserve role before turning a corner in the ACC and NCAA tournaments. I have little doubt that MacAdoo has more pro potential as a natural 4, but Leslie is the better college player, and he'll prove it this season.

ACC coaches know whats up, and they voted Leslie the preseason POY, not MacAdoo. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

McAdoo will also have a chance to put up more stats than Leslie this year since he'll be the focus of their offense. Hopefully he buckles under the pressure of being the go-to guy ala Harrison Barnes.

The McAdoo hype machine is officially out of control at this point. Like the burger train just left bun station.

I totally get the NBA draft projections because the guy is young and he's got the size, build, length etc that makes him a potential NBA impact player.

But let's not forget that the guy was absolutely terrible for the majority of last season. Take a look at this guy's stats. Sure he was fine in the ACC/NCAA tournament as a role player. He has a knack for playing the passing lanes, generating steals, and converting them into transition dunks. Those are all great skills. But can this guy possibly live up to the hype where people think he can be a centerpiece for UNC offensively???


Player A:
O-Rating 101.0, usage 19.9%, TS 47.8%, O-Reb 9.2%, D-Reb 15.6%, Ast 3.1, TO 13.4, Blk 2.1, Stl 3.0, 43.4% FG, 63.8% FT

Player B:
O-Rating 99.7, usage 18.9%, TS 47.9%, O-Reb 9.2%, D-Reb 14.8%, Ast 3.2, TO 14.5, Blk 3.0, Stl 0.6, 42.5% FG, 71.8% FT



Wow, those numbers are remarkably similar across the board except for steals.

Player A is McAdoo last year, the guy people think might beat our very own CJ Leslie and Zobransky for player of the year.

Player B is Deshawn Painter last year, the guy everyone was lukewarm on transferring.

Didn't really know where to put this but it might entertain some...

So I emailed Robbi Pickeral at ESPN (covers UNC basketball) and asked why they only have a dedicated UNC basketball blog and not an ACC blog or even another individual basketball team blog and got this response:

Do we expect him to be the most improved player in the world? The nation? The league? At UNC?

What are we expecting here? How is a guy who was basically Deshawn Painter last year supposed to be better six months later than CJ Leslie, Zo-City, etc?

It's just typical UNC fans. Last spring they all talked about how JMM sucked and wasn't ready for the pros. Now he's Antawn Jamison six months later. UNC fans are always completely unrealistic, but this is just extreme.

I think they're going to be supremely disappointed if JMM doesn't dominate when in reality he's probably just going to be an above average ACC big man.



And obviously Painter transferring wasn't a good thing and knowledgeable fans were unhappy to hear the news, but it wasn't exactly season threatening. It could cost us a game here and there if we don't replace him adequately.

i'm really keeping my expectations tempered, i'm a pretty rational guy, i'm not sure what you're ranting about. all i'm saying is that almost every poll has us ahead of duke, including the ACC coaches' poll, so I don't think it's too "pompous" to question that.
