The DS can't be used for a lot of the stuff you can do on a PSP, like using it as an mp3 player, a video player, an emulator, and a device with which to pirate the shit out of new release games (if that's what you're into).

I love the GBA, but the DS just doesn't really do it for me. I'll probably get a Zelda or something if that ever comes out.

Actually that's not true. While not nearly as big as the PSP's there is a homebrew scene for the DS too including mp3 players, emulators and playing downloaded commercial roms. (if that's what you're into).

Here's the package I'm looking at getting when they release it.

http://www.supercard.cn/eng/

There are already other methods for running homebrew available (including one "free" method that requires you to upgrade the firmware of your computer's wireless card and then trick the DS into "upgrading" a hacked DS firmware.)

I guess I should have said it can do that without buying anything else.

That card reader is interesting, though.

how is that virtual pet any different than this one? Oh I forgot - at least it saves its user 300+ hours of anti-social reclusive nerdplay.

Okay.

First: are you joking? I mean, I don't even play WoW anymore, but it is in no way analogous to Nintendogs. I mean, I'm not saying one is better or worse, but they are in no way at all similar.

Second: defensive much?

Third: it's really fucking stupid to call somebody a nerd in a discussion about video games.

So do stores have Advance Wars DS today, or will I have to wait until Thursday to rub it on my penis?

Also, I moved a few months ago. I still haven't unpacked half my shit. It might be easier to just buy another NDS than to find the old one.

It is in stores today.

I'm currently on mission 10 and loving every second.

I was at EB games in Cary at 10 am when they opened. They only got 5 copies in though. 3 of them were reserved for preorder and me and some other dork kid picked up the other 2. I'd try a bigger store like Best Buy or the EB at the mall perhaps.

[Edited on August 23, 2005 at 2:02 PM. Reason : I also picked up Nintendogs to see what the big deal was. ]

[Edited on August 23, 2005 at 2:06 PM. Reason : I also got my projector and my Fosgate MX-500 today too. God Damn it's like Christmas up in here.]

K, I'll go to Beast Buy after work.

I did the $15 preorder and perhaps typo for Nintindogs chihuahua just like you did, to see what all the fuss is about. If it sucks, fuck it. Fifteen bucks ain't nothing to a balla.

Call EB Games/Babbages/Gamestop ASAP. They'll hold a copy for you if they have any left. I was pretty shocked that the one in Cary only got 5 copies.

BTW I solved the answer to the question of this thread.

Fosgate MX-500 >>> PSP + DS

Yeah, I found a copy at the GameStop on Kildaire Farm. They've got one left if anybody's interested.

Stores like that are all about the preordering of games. I don't know if they do this anymore, but EB managers were evaluated based primarily on number of preorders on games, not by net profit or the job they do.

As a result, they get in less of a game on the initial day then demand sometimes warrents. They'll even tell customers that they have less than they really do so as a way to "punish" them for not preordering. PA did an article about it a while back.

I have seriously looked through my house for an hour and cannot find my DS.

This is what you get for not playing a system for three months.

I've been playing it for the past several weeks now. It's pretty fun. I liked the dreamcast verison better, but I'm not sure if that's because it was new back then, or if somthing really changed.

heh. I bought one a little late and go the 1.51 firmware. Looks like I'll be waiting a while for someone to crack encryption before I can "import" games too.

A thought I had the other day: I have one of those nifty Harmony universal remotes and was thinking how cool it would be if there was a program to put all that shit onto the PSP. It has an infrared to send remote commands, and it could be hooked up with a nice GUI on-screen. Anyone feel like cranking this out?

I remember seeing a program like that in beta a couple of months ago. The only problem was that the program had all the codes hard wired into it so it only controlled one tv/dvd player and wasn't programmable. I'd imagine there's probably something out there like that if you look in the right places. Personally I think it would be a pain in the ass to use the PSP as a remote, but it would be neat as a novelty.

Until 10:59am today you can order a 2 GB Memory Stick PRO Duo Card from dell for $130 shipped.

Just a heads up for anyone that has a PSP and is interested.

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=a0522939

Use code FWB1XHD65LQ5L5 for $20 off. Price ended up being $130.43 shipped for me.

PSP is ridiculously overpriced. I'll save my money and get a next-gen console for the same price as a PSP and a stick.

Advance Wars, Meteos, Kirby, and soon to have Castlevania, Mariokart online, New Super Mario Bros, Mario and Luigi 2, and the supreme Metroid Prime: Hunters online >>>>>>> anything PSP has to offer.

getting back to the original psp vs ds debate...

I think it pretty much comes down to the psp having better graphics and the ds being more innovative. Also, you tend to get more mature games on the psp and more kiddy games on the ds.

it's all up to personal preference, and saying that one >>>>>>> the other isn't gonna make someone change their mind, especially if they've paid $$$$ for it.

Personally, I love my psp and no one is ever going to convince me it's over-rated or over-priced. It suits my current taste in games, and I have a gba to give me my old-school nintendo fix. Yes, there's been a drought in games recently, but the lineup for the next few months makes up for that.

anyhoo, that's my $.02

Big news for anyone that has a 1.5x or 2.0 firmware psp. Now every PSP ever made can run homebrew, not just the older ones.

^^Right. That wasn't widely known about 2 days ago when I made the post. And the 1007s were only sold in China(I think). Everything sold in the US should be downgradable.

anyone??

well do you at least know if you can take out the sound files or movie files from the iso to make it fit on a 512 stick?

Actually, I'm having trouble getting my own smaller iso files to run anyway.. but once I get that figured out, will i be able to remove "unnecessary" files from the larger ones?
