Hugo was 80-90 mph when it came through the area I live (west of Charlotte). It gave us hell.

all you inland fucks ever talk about is hugo

hugo hugo hugo

christ

hugo was a strong ass storm when it came ashore. cat 4 i believe, or at least a strong 3. this storm is stuggling to stay a minimal 1. if it came inland, by the time it got to charlotte, it wouldn't be as strong as a gnat's fart.

coastal areas are used to storms like this. hell, there've been nor'easters that have been stronger.

Were you there? If not, then STFU. When we went to bed that night we didn't know that Hugo would turn in towards Charleston therefore there was little preparation made especially in Charlotte. Hugo was still quite strong when it came through Charlotte and aside from the wind speed the storm carried huge momentum given it's size and movement speed. This "ghat's fart" managed to keep us in the dark for almost a month, forcing folks to drive as far as Georgia for a generator. That is after you cut your way out of your neighborhood.
So what is a good inland storm that we can talk about that would satisfy you, Hazel maybe?

As far as Ophelia goes I will be much happier when the news and the general masses stop acting under a state of paranoia whenever a storm kicks up now especially when it is as weak and nonthreatening as this one.

I think he was more saying that Hugo was a Category 4 when it hit the coast so therefore it was still strong when it got to Charlotte.

In this case Ophelia is a category 1 so if it got to Charlotte it would, in all likelihood, bring less winds then a common summer thunderstorm..

As of 11:45am 9/14/2005 Ophelia's winds are up to 85mph making it a solid Catagory 1 hurricane. The intensity estimate is based of stepped-frequency radiometer surface wind data from a NOAA reconnaissance aircraft.

dude, it's called reading comprehension. i said OPHELIA wouldn't be a gnat's fart if it turned inland.

TWW spin-off. It was started by Joe and EVroccck as a join financial venture. I'm not sure if they're making much money, but there are sites at a lot of schools that use Crazy Web. They all have access to certain universal boards of which "The Party" is one. ECU was the pilot site, and still has the largest user base, but I'd say the whole of that network gets far less activity than TWW. It was originally called "Party In College" but they have recently switched to "Campus Blender" which is about equally gay. I got an account at the UNC site when they first started up, along with a wave of people from TWW, but we were giving them too much hell, so they started restricting registration to UNC-only E-Mail addresses. I just kept the account (though the UNC-specific section is basically dead), and use it to post on the universal boards.

Sometimes I have to regulate.

so there is alot of flooding @ highway 17 from wilmington to the SC border, specifically around the ocean isle/sunset beach - southport stretch...mainly the canals (and presumably the ICW) are spilling over onto the beach islands which are pretty low lying...luckily they're all beach houses so they're up on stilts mostly....no real wind damage though

this is all second hand from my mom, since we have properties down in that area

they said the water was lower near their place than it is on a strong high tide

My grandparents have a house at Sunset, but it's on stilts on a pretty high lot.

yeah I can agree with that I suppose...at least, as long as it pulls the "Outer Banks Ophelia" and not the "Wilmington Ophelia".

^ I think the most active year on record is 1933 with 21 storms, though they didn't name them like they do now.

Pac would be a better mayor.

If he were smart he would resign and "axe" Gen Hoere to take full control and take over the position
