I'm not relating that Statement to Herb. It's well known I have some serious doubts about Herb as a coach who can take us where we once were (Although he has undoubtedly made us better in his tenure)



All I'm saying is that storied programs wouldn't settle for simply making the tournament every year. You think Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, etc would be satisfied with a coach who took them to the NCAA's for 10 years straight, had say...2 Sweet 16's.... and that's it?

They wouldn't. However, if you were ECU, that would be the best coach of all time.

That comment said "You can't fire a coach who consistently takes you to the NCAA's". That's crap for certain programs... while its true for others

but we are 21-5. and nearly every seat is filled at the RBC this year, and its fun. i enjoy winning.

Im talking about the inbounds play with ~26 seconds left. Everyone sprinted the other way and then someone held the ball for about 6 seconds and we luckily didnt get called for five seconds.


Also we may have gotten away with a pushoff.


It's elementary stuff like this that Herb just cant get right.

I seem to recall that we had to make quite a few clutch free throws to win this game. Ultimately, we still had to seal the game, which we did. One non-call because it wasn't seen doesn't count as three points. Even if that foul was called, VT still would've had to make a 3 to tie and they were 1 for 345 on threes today. Refs called it pretty decently out there and let them play most of the game. That's all you can wish for in a officiating crew.

I've watched him play for five years. Unless he improved dramatically in the last two weeks, I'm gonna say with confidence that he's still a shitty defender.

^good point, but I think overall our defense was not playing well the entire game, and evtimov being out might be one of those problems. Just because he can't guard someone one and one doesn't make our defense better if he is out.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Evtimov plays the best help defense on our team. Hedging out against the guard on the perimeter, closing the baseline when an opposing player is driving, double teaming a big man and NEVER letting the man split the double team. I'm not saying he's the best defender on our team...but his help defense is superb. He would have been key is helping with Collins today.

Stick to talking about sports other than basketball rally.

This is a retarted comment. I listened to the game on the radio since I was in the car and I heard the announcers talking about how much they were letting VT get by with in fouls. They didn't hand us a game, they simply made no-calls for both teams.

We're also not "just getting to the NCAA tournament" now.

Year before last we were 2nd in the ACC. Last year we made the sweet 16. This year we're looking at 2nd in the ACC again and who knows what else.

We would be laughed at by the college basketball world if we even thought about getting rid of Herb right now. Our fans are the worst combination of delusional and stupid. Delusional to think that we should be in the Final Four every year and stupid because they don't know shit about sports but act like they do.

^That probably is somewhat accurate though.

We were all over them defensively in the 1st half and they weren't guarding us at all. I really don't think that was ref's calling a bad game, just that Va Tech played defense like Wake Forest

On a side note...

Something is up with this team mentally. Its almost like we're too relaxed. We go out early and get a big lead, we're getting open shots, and things look easy. Then we just let up. We need a little more killer instinct. It's almost like I'd rather us ony be up like 5-10pts the whole game because I figure we'll play harder.

It's frustrating and relieving at the same time. We're 10-3 and 21-5 and we're still not playing our best basketball...but when are we going to pick it up??

My #1 complaint... for years.

The kicker to all of that was the 2 straight possessions with shot clock violations. Our team gets too focused on "OMF let the clock die then heave up a 3!" instead of maintaining the lead. We worry too much about the clock. I mean, don't be stupid and rush things... but wait for a good shot and to hell with the clock. We're always so damn worried about finishing the game.... that we forget to finish the game (If that makes sense )

I also think our 2nd half struggles (not this game, but Duke, Miami, etc.) were from lack of a PG to break the press and remain calm with the ball in his hands. We just don't have anyone on the team... anyone.... that seems to be comfortable dribbling through the press. Not Bethel, not Atsur, not grant.... we really need Wright to get here. I really think he'll help... a lot. Whenever another team presses us, I cringe... whether it be from someone like Atsur handling the ball... or the stupid lazy cross-court passes NC State makes while double teamed. (Not to mention the shitty inbounds passes we like to throw). Our team CANNOT handle pressure while inbounding and going full court. At all. Ever. I hope Wright lives up to his billing as a great ballhandling true PG. That would help this team more than anything

I see lots of positives with this team... this year more than any other.... but IMO, to be legit, these two problems need to be addressed. We've got a PG on his way.. that's a great sign.

everytime Gavin gets the ball with a press on, i cover my eyes.

and sometimes i just wish that maybe we would make some personnel changes when our players arent doing anything, just giving up the ball and not scoring. (Roy Williams sent in 5 for 5 against Duke, which proved to be an awesome coaching move). Something like that can really wake a team up, not to mention allow the coach to talk with his 1st teamers on the bench.

Didnt read most of this thread, but we played about 15 GREAT minutes today, and sucked it up the rest of the time. We gotta figure out some way to play better down the stretch.



Oh yeah, and to the "ref's bailed us out today", how about not calling fouls on VT every time we came down the court. They were grabbing and shit the whole game. Who gives a fuck if we got away with one or two at the end?
