They weren't the consistently #1 worst team in the ACC like we were in the early 90s. When Duke became the team that they did, they really only had one "awesome" team to compete against year in and year out...and that was UNC. We were good every now and then with V as the coach...but we were no where near dominant.

Even we were never dominant. We were awesome for a few years in the late 70s. We were also pretty good back in the 50s. That's about it. Other than that, we've been an average to an above average team (which, gasp, is what we are now). Duke and UNC never had to "overcome" this almighty NCSU dynasty. We weren't UCLA.

We are having to compete with two of the best all-time programs in the history of the NCAA within 20 miles of us. And right now both of those programs are at their peak. How hard is that to understand?? They won't always be there...but I wouldn't bet on them falling any time soon. We've had to climb out of the ACC cellar...climb out of the ACC play-in game that they named after our fucking coach....while Duke and UNC are having the best years in their history. Not an easy task.

Coach K won absolutely nothing with Bubas' players. When his first recruiting class was all juniors, he started winning.....alot.

I wish we had gone after Mike Anderson before Missouri snagged him.

I think we need a black coach with an uptempo offense (think Lorenzo Romar at UDub) to compete on the recruiting trail and the court with UNC and Duke.

Nate McMillan is a pipe dream of course, but he would be perfect if he ever came here. I could see us outrecruiting UNC and Duke with a guy like that.
