^Yes that class was actually rated that high by many.

^^ CSTV has us at #6 for 2001. I distinctly remember ESPN having us at #2 (I watched it on TV. The Summer before I came to NC State a friend and I turned on ESPN during the recruiting show, just in time for #3 or 4. I talked about how shitty State was, and as a joke when #2 came up, I was like "NC STATE!". It actually was NC State.... which was quite funny).
Now I'm not sure if that was a single ESPN analyst's rankings or "ESPN's Rankings"... all I remember was that we were #2 on a show a buddy and I saw on ESPN.
Here's CSTV's rankings. I'm looking for others. http://interact.cstv.com/recruiting/column_archive_display.cfm?hodge_id=619

man that ACCCG game against Duke during Hodge's sophmore season, my freshman year, i thought we had it won. i remember it was a few minutes left in the game, and State fans started shaking their keys, and i was like sweet we've got this. then all of our best players got into foul trouble or fouled out and "getting Redicked" became new terminology. i seriously thought that was one of the best teams Herb ever had. #2 in the ACC. ACC COY. the true ACC ROY now in his sophmore season. a strong, dynamite man in the middle in Powell. a big guy that could play in close, but burn you on the outside if you left him with Melvin. now that team if any of Herb's teams was the one that i could have seen as the most probable for going deep in the tounament like an elite eight appearance. but alas we had to meet Cal, and got beat.

^Didn't we lose to Vanderbuilt that year in the 2nd round???
The year we lost to Cal we still had Scooter because he tied it up and then that Cal faggot hit a 3 to win.
We lost to Vandy because of the intentional foul on Marcus Melvin. 8/18/2006 2:03:19 AM |

I haven't really been keeping up with what's going on in this thread, but wanted to add a bit to the original topic.
JJ Hickson, a five-star recruit according to Scout.com (6-9, 230 lb. PF/C out of Marietta, GA), claims to be very interested in State. He's reportedly close to setting an official visit to State for "sometime in October."
I've heard that he might be leaning towards Florida, whom he will visit on Sept. 9th, the weekend Florida will receive their national championship rings during halftime of the football game.
Assuming he makes it out of that weekend without giving the Gators a commitment (he's also got visits scheduled to Georgetown and Arizona), things might get interesting. The one thing Hickson has been very consistent about is wanting to play early and often wherever he ends up. There's certainly little doubt that he could receive plenty of early PT at State.
Kid's definitely a big-timer.

^^nah we lost to Cal in 2003 (clifford crawford's senior year), and lost to Vanderbilt in 2004.
2002 - first tourney appearance since like 1989, beat Michigan State in 1st round and lost to UConn in 2nd round. this is where that famous pic of Julius Hodge lying on the floor heartbroken came from.
2003 - lost to Cal in the 1st round
2004 - beat Louisiana Lafayette in 1st round, lost to Vanderbilt in 2nd round due to controversial intentional foul on Melvin when he accidentally tripped that douche Freije from behind.
2005 - beat UNCC in 1st round, beat UConn (the defending national champions) in 2nd round, and lost to Wisconsin in the Sweet 16 after being up a ton in the first half. we just collapsed in the second half. if we would have won that game we would have gone on to face UNC in the Elite 8.
2006 - beat Cal in 1st round, and lost badly to Texas in 2nd round. 8/18/2006 10:02:28 AM |

Chris Wright will be visiting this weekend. We need to start a "We want Wright" chant at the game. Seriously getting him to commit could create a domino effect and get another highly touted recruit like J.J. Hickson to commit.

so as a recap, for 2007 we have:
Johnny Thomas (SF) *** from Greensboro, NC - In the process of a position switch where he's moving to the wing slot. Outstanding athlete with high-major athletic ability. Will need to round out the skill part of his game to play on the wing in a big conference but he's made strides since the end of his junior season. Character kid with grades.
Farnold Degand (SG) *** from Boston, MA (originally committed to Iowa State) - Quick two-guard with good first step. Needs to become more consistent with outside shot and get stronger. Will turn 17 middle of senior year in high school. - Degand earned his stripes this season as one of the top guards to come out of the City League with his do-everything style of play for the Tigers. Degand led his squad to the Boston South title and a 19-5 record, pushing the Tigers to the Division 2 South sectional final, where they fell just 1 point short of a trip to the FleetCenter. Degand was invited to the Nike All-American camp as well as the Adidas Top 100 camp.
Rashad Green (SG) ** from North Bridgton, ME
I am not sure where we stand on any of the other recruits, but I believe we have 3 more scholarships we can give.
