I like the Newcastle-Rossi move for both sides.... was he really going to get alot of playing time behind Rooney, Saha, Ole? And Newcastle has had the worst luck with strikers, I hope it works out for them

I heard Benfica was sniffing around Eddie Johnson a while back....... but AEG didn't want to sell him. I dont know how they expect US players to get better if they don't let them go overseas.

oh, and as far as the Tevez/Mascherano to West Ham deal, their contracts are owned by a British group that is partners with Corinthians, and who launched a bid to buy West Ham last year. That group probably owns some shares of West Ham, and the transfer fee was likely very very low, which is why it will remain undisclosed. Like a kind of trade, I guess. Or a better way to put it would be a transfer from one office to another while still working for the same company.

Well, I'm happy... they probably aren't going to play until the UEFA Cup match, though I'd like to see them against Villa..

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/w/west_ham_utd/5305724.stm

of course they'll be sold to one of the 'big' clubs within a few years

Just in case no one trusted me about FanZone, Bill Simmons put it in his picks for the rest of 2006:

Quote :
"12. "Fan Zone" on FSC

So I've been slowly getting into the English soccer thing, although I might have picked a lemon -- a struggling Spurs team that just got shut out by an Everton team that played a man down for most of the game. Er, match. (Note: One thing I've enjoyed about soccer is that the British announcers will absolutely kill a team that's underperforming, and they'll do it in the most condescending, disgusted way possible. All the announcers sound like the guy who feuded with Rob Lowe in "Oxford Blues." It's pretty funny. These guys were killing the Spurs on Saturday. Er, Hotspurs.) Now I'm suffering from buyer's envy and wishing that I picked Man City, who have the coolest uniforms and stunned Arsenal last weekend with the winning goal coming off an iffy penalty-kick call. Soccer really needs to figure that out. Imagine watching the Mavs-Heat in the NBA Finals if Miami won a game because one of the fouls on Dwyane Wade was worth 35 free throws. That would have been even more ridiculous than what actually ended up happening.

Anyway, there's this show on Fox's all-soccer channel called "Fan Zone," where two rowdy British fans announce one of the games and openly cheer for their teams. It's kind of like watching a White Sox telecast, only if Hawk Harrelson had a British accent and sounded drunk. But it's spectacular. Now I'm wondering why we don't do this in the United States. For instance, let's say the Yankees and Red Sox were playing on ESPN2 with the normal announcers, and we were also showing the game on ESPN6 with me and my buddy JackO (a huge Yankee fan) announcing, and both of us were openly drinking during the game, screaming for our teams and busting each other. Which telecast would you watch? Yeah, I thought so. Let's make this happen.

(One more note on this: Why do British people have the best television ideas? We're always ripping them off about four years after they came up with a great idea. With all the webcasts out there, as well as league-owned networks like NBA TV and the NFL Network, why couldn't we have the option of listening to multiple announcers for a game? What's the obstacle here? And couldn't you have a contest to find the announcers? For God's sake, a kajillion people turn up for the "American Idol" tryouts ... you don't think tens of thousands of sports nuts would kill themselves for the chance to announce pro games? I can't believe this hasn't happened yet.)"

That is a great article by simmons. I'm personally not for Totty and would love to see Newcastle get back on form. I think the latest transfer will help.

Anyone see the England match yesterday? 1-0 over Macedonia. Crouch had a killer goal, but Macedonia played well and the first half and the end were a bit scary for the boys. I hope they can come out strong in October.

Ha...well played....but that said i was a bit suprised with Macedonia, though the English had a huge ego going into this game and horrid preparation.

The Germany record was impressive. 13-0 cannot be topped so I can't say much to that. Podolski and Klose always seem to impress.

I'm almost giddy to see the Villa-West Ham game tomorrow.. even though Tevez probably won't start and likely not even play.

**if you want to watch games (ones not on american tv) just goto that link.. it's really easy despite some programs being in wierd languages. I'm a computer moron and I figured it out. Plus nearly all Uefa Cup games are on and ALL Champions League games are on. (mostly in English commentary)

Villa-West Ham just tied 1-1. I thought it was a really entertaining game... there were alot of chances and a couple of great defensive plays. Tevez played like 20-25 minutes and he had a couple of good plays but you could tell he's not really fit yet.

In other news, Hilario will be starting in goal for Chelski against Barca because both Cech and Cudicini were injured in the Reading game, and Juan Pablo Angel had a great second half for Villa, missing a penalty and scoring an own goal in the span of three minutes.

Did anybody else watch that Reading game? I didn't think the challenge on Cech was as bad as The Greaaat One said it was, but then again, I may be biased because I rarely agree with him.. what do yall think?

It looked like to me he was just going for the ball, and as Coppell said, it was early in the game for somebody who was excited to play and make an impression
