I saw it today and liked it. The battles were awesome (esp. the giant dude)
The ending scene was a total rip off of Gladiator.
I'm thankful that the sky blotting wall of arrows mercifully missed Leonidas' crotch by a mile whereas the same number of arrows turned Hero into a pincushion.

nor did they hit his face

i don't think a final shot of the Spartan leader left to die bloodied and dishonorably by Persians would've been an image consistent with the rest of the movie, and the legend of his character Miller spent the whole movie trying to build

come on

It was over the top but in a good way.

It was hard to take the storyteller seriously though since I immediately associate him with being the friar from Van Helsing.

Try associating the narrator with Faramir from LoTR and you'll feel much better about the whole thing

from the daily show:

"In the movie, 300, a group of 300 spartans, with well over 1800 abs ..."

I dont know

Maybe because they made an attempt at some bullshit back story with the slut queen?

Why was it even rewarding when she stabbed the guy who could have fucked her?

At that point it didnt mean she wasnt weak, it meant she couldnt handle being called out for being a fucking fucktard

Look the movie was good, but it wouldnt have been ANY worse with absolutly none of the "lets make up a plot" downtime

Well the whole Gladiator wheat field rip wasn't all intentionally done I dont think. My friend and I were talking about it. They did fight in the spring and the fall they harvested. Wheat is what they grew back then. The resolution of the movie shouldn't be located at a rocky coastline casm so where else but the fields. I mean if you're going to make a movie like this it's going to be hard as fuck not to accidently pay homage to Gladiator anyway am I right.

no they didn't

they fought at the opening, not at all like the wolf manuever where trickery was used

but like i said, not a big deal

^ugh the whole reason they had the wolf scene in the movie was to show how Leonidas got the idea to fight them at the hot gates. Then they flashed back to it again near the end just to drive home the comparison. It does not really matter that they fought at the entrance of the hot gates the pass leading to it was already narrow enough that it limited the number of persians that could fight them at once.

How is that a bullshit story? Its totally appropriate. These are ancient greeks - simple people living by simple laws and traditions.

no, just saying what's the point of showing the whole wolf thing, where he traps the wolf in the narrow rocks

but they fight outside of the narrow rocks

the advantage of the pass is negated when they fight in the open

the fights would have been the same if it was just a cliff (i know not story-wise)

just saying, the movie was still awesome

apparently at the REAL battle Leonidas was one of the first to die by arrows, not the last

I'm glad they changed it though, it woulda been stupid to have him die first

The wheat field thing wasn't for homage of Gladiator.

That's more than likely an allusion to the elysian fields (greek mythology) after life. It's all symbolic yo - russell crowe doesn't get to claim that shit by himself!

and as earlier posted in the thread, that's what the comic looked like

so gladiator did an homage to 300

the only thing the persians really had going for them was their number of troops. in that first wave, the spartans were clearly outnumbered and overwhelmed... they were pushed back into the hot pass, where they were able to hold, and then push back. i agree that they did fight out in the open a lot, but you could probably argue that they weren't even challenged, so they didn't need to hold back.
