everyone else had their chance to go undefeated as well but lost a game too... you dumbass, you cant use that... "let someone else try" bullshit, we had to play the number one team in the shoe and showed we are the only team to hang with ohio state... and now we have as many losses as these other teams, so it isnt ruled out

Why do people keep saying this?

It's time to decide who goes. OSU is the first.

The second pick will come from a pool of one-loss teams. Among them, analyze the quality of their loss. Michigan is the only one who can claim their one loss came from #1.

However, that should get further weight via the fact that it was merely a three point game AT Ohio State. It is 100% guaranteed that OSU lost if that game was played at the Big House.

If this game were a blow-out, MI is clearly not #2. But the way it happened on Saturday proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that they indeed deserve the number 2 ranking.

In other words, this game was EXTREMELY meaningful. I have no clue where people come off thinking that is wasn't.

Incidentally, if USC looses, the rematch should be on. And if MI wins, that win will NOT be meaningless.

^^^ once again you are misunderstanding what I meant by that. Simply that the ultimate result was meaningless... so Ohio St. won, but it means NOTHING if they make it to the bowl game.

Frankly, Ohio St. won that game easier than the score. If not for 2 horrible snaps and a VERY iffy P.I. call this isn't a close game and we aren't having this conversation..

Whatver though, I have no vested interest. None of my teams have a chance (ND realistically doesn't) and I don't like any of the teams that do.

Quote :
"And if MI wins, that win will NOT be meaningless.

Actually, yes, the result would. I'm pretty sure that Ohio State would win again regardless though. That center will be healed in the FIFTY FUCKING ONE DAYS BEFORE EITHER TEAM PLAYS AGAIN, which is ridiculous.

if not for a bullshit personal foul michigan gets the ball back down only 4...... shut the fuck up its how football goes ok... if their snapper sucks thats their fault for running out of the shotgun... michigan NEVER goes out of the shotgun to prevent stuff like that... its called playing smart... its part of the game... we had bullshit too, if not for a 3 yard overthrow manningham is in the endzone and michigan up 14-7 with momentum back. its just how it goes man, get it through your head

^^ if you want to talk about that stuff

manningham will also be healthier, as will our starting FS that was knocked out in the first quarter.

I would also like to see them on a field where everyone wasnt slipping on every play because of a dumbfuck at OSU who decided it was a good idea to lay sod down 2.5 weeks b4 the damn game

The field conditions adversely affected UM's style of play.

The White Sox used to be notorious for pulling this shit at Comiskey. Angling the base paths so bunted balls always went foul.. wetting the basepaths when the Sox bunted a lot.

It's crafty, but just a little above pathetic. If you are good enough to win without that shit, don't do it. OSU should be good enough.

MI fan though I am, I gotta say bringing up stuff like the grass not being primed properly seems like petty discussion after that game. They played on the same grass. They couldn't have run any better than we could have.

lets say it was pouring (not including the grass etc), who would that favor?

UM of course, since the passing game is vital to OSU's success and we run the ball 2/3 of our plays

now for OSU, the field took the ability of our corners away because no one could fucking keep their footing. On a slick and soft field, the players making the cuts at full speed (corners defending the WRS) are at a disadvantage. This worked against the OSU corners as well, but Leon Hall is a much bigger (and better for that matter) part of our D than their corners are to them.

if that all makes sense

a rematch is retarded. Michigan had their chance, played a great game, but lost to Ohio State, give someone else a chance. It happens all the time... for instance, in a league that has 2 divisions and a championship game the best two teams might be in the same division, but they dont get a "rematch" in the championship game, they had their chance in the regular season and didnt get it done. For example, in the SEC, there were several years where Florida/Tennessee/Georgia in the East were much better than anyone in the West but they didnt get any of this communist "aww, everyone has to feel good, no one can be a loser, cant hurt anyones feelings" bullshit
"

and like NyM410, I am pretty unbiased as well, just dont support this revisionist pussy ass bullshit. They had their chance, and lost. And you cant claim "they were the only one to lose to a the number 1 team", not everyone has had a chance to play the number one team, thats the whole point of NOT letting Michigan have another chance before someone else has a first chance.

any of the overrated, shit SEC teams out there would get killed by OSU or UM

who out of conference has Arkansas, UF, and LSU beaten?

anyone???? anyone???? no

for years the SEC has lived off of the inflated rankings of the conference teams artificially boosting their SOS's.

With the exception of Tennessee and Florida (who have a shitty FSU and Miami this year), no one schedules anyone worth a shit on a yearly basis

I mean Im not trying to be anti-SEC

but like this year, Florida is weak as shit. Put them in the Big 10 they maybe finish 4th. Their QB is garbage.

If they dont ever play anyone worth a shit outside of the SEC how are they judged and pre-ranked?

Hype, and thats it.

no way... not even close to 4th. They have a good defense, and I hate Leak/Tebow but they have been pretty good this year. I would have them MAYBE a slight slight bit below Michigan but they would be favored if the game was at Florida

^ come on, you know better than that... people that know football know quality, you can tell by watching the games. In fact, a random game against some other conference is a horrible way to judge things cause anything can happen in a single game... for example, Tennessee beat the living shit out of Cal... but if that game was played now, Cal would probably win at least 7 out of 10... but that obviously doesnt mean the Pac-10 is a better conference than the SEC

Chris Leak looks horrible. They've lost their best 2 defensive players to off the field shit and the only convincing win they have is vs LSU @home

I wouldnt be surprised if they take an L @ FSU. Matter of fact, i'll prolly bet the spread

I just really think that the SEC is down this year, but the teams are still getting like 2003-2004 SEC respect.

I dont see that at all, I just think that there are about 5-6 really good SEC teams this year that are all beating each other in really close games. Sure there hasnt been one dominant SEC team, but I think thats because so many teams are really good this year. I think at one point the SEC had more than half of the top 10 teams (Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Arkansas). Sure Georgia has been disappointing, but Arkansas has been a big suprise so they average out.

Woody Hayes just made 3 great points

1. Anyone in the National Championship game should have at least won their own conference.

2. I'm sure Louisville would love "another chance" at Rutgers, Florida another chance at Auburn, Notre Dame another chance at Michigan

3. NC State had DT, UCLA had Walton, they met in the semi final, not in the championship, no one argued for a "rematch"

The only ones really arguing for a rematch are Michigan fans. I agree with pretty much everything you're saying. I bet WVU (a team that is actually better than the UL one you mentioned) wants a rematch too on a neutral field.

Michigan lost late. That hurts you (unless you're FSU in '93). I think it's hilarious that people actually think Michigan CLEARLY had a harder schedule than USC or Florida. What's more laughable is that someone said Florida would finish 4th in the Big 10. Behind who? Wisconsin? They had one of the worst schedules of a BCS team. The only hint of a hard game they played, they got blown the hell out.

[Edited on November 20, 2006 at 12:37 PM. Reason : well wiscy didn't get blown out but it wasn't as close as the 2 TD scoreline.]

I dont like this argument because the BCS championship should be the two best teams in the nation so why cant the two best teams be from the same conference, and its not fair to conferences that have a conference championship because they can only have one champion whereas other conferences can have co-champions

Maybe they are. But who is to say that Florida or USC isn't? One thing we do know is Michigan didn't beat the #1 team in the country when they had the chance. Maybe Florida or USC do..

Quote :
"1. Why, exactly, is everyone so sure Michigan is the number two team in the nation? I think it is, but that defense was beyond awful and while this certainly didn’t look like the second best team in the country. If you’re going to dog USC for an “average” performance, even though it shut down the high-powered Cal offense in the second half and only gave up one touchdown while winning the biggest game of the Pac 10 season by 14 points, then you have to blast the Michigan defense for getting pantsed in the latest Game of the Century.

Are you willing to bet the house, farm and kids that the Wolverine defense could stop USC and its fantastic receiving corps? How about Steve Slaton, Pat White and West Virginia? Are you 100% sold that Michigan would beat Florida, Arkansas, Louisville, LSU or Boise State? Maybe you are (I am too), and maybe Mike Hart is right and the Wolverines would win a rematch … too bad.

We know what happened when Michigan got its shot against the number one team in the nation; it lost. Now it’s time for someone else to"

^^^ and ^^ I would agree ONLY if is was REALLY obvious that they were the two best teams... you are all acting like Michigan has one loss and everyone else is 6-6. Michigan and Florida, and USC, etc are all really really close... and it would be nice to play them all out on the field (playoffs) but we cant do that. Best we can do is let a different team have a shot rather than the one that just LOST

but who knows

this whole this is fucking stupid

plus one system, please

so for um to stay at #2, they would need

usc to lose to either nd or ucla

and

uf or arkansas to lose next week, then win the sec title

right?

This one wouldn't have been close if OSU didnt turn the ball over twice on bad snaps. Michigan would lose to this team 9 of 10 times because they cant stop Troy Smith. (see last two years games as reference). And LLLLLoyd is 1-5 against Tressel.
