Which product placement, in particular, do you feel detracted from the movie?

^All of them.

1. Much better than expected, which is to say I didn't really have high expectations.
2. The movie did get worse near the end.
3. Surely there could have been a way to convey the idea that the autobots were good without those fucking gay ass monologues.
4. I really, really hate the trend towards filming action scenes with that fucking shaky camera. If you can't tell what the fuck is going on, its not cool. It's not artistic. You're not impressing anyone. It fucking sucks.

Pinpoint a few. Are you saying that your movie experience would have been enriched if Jazz were an S2000 and Ironhide was a Tundra?

You know, guys, frankly I could've done without all the robots in the movie. They were just product placement by Hasbro to sell some toys. Really ruined the movie.

It appears that you are attempting to argue some sort of false dilemma. Stop now before you make a fool of yourself.

Saying that there was too much shameless product placement does not equate to saying that they shouldnt have transformed into familiar things. In fact, it's saying that they shouldn't spend the extra effort to linger over logos, throw product names into dialogue, or have shots whose sole purpose is to advertise a product.

Nothing says "I don't want to be taken seriously" more than taking time and effort to interrupt your story to advertise.

Surely you arent so stupid to assert that there is no way you can make this movie without shameless product placement?

Oh yeah man, they totally should have replaced "eBay" with "a popular internet auction site" in all dialogue.

And a wide shot including the Apple logo when they were working on a laptop -- ludicrous! We need to see exactly what it is they're looking at at every minute, dammit! Why are you showing a shot that contains a logo and every character in the room when you should show a close up of someone listening or an computer booting up?

Like I said before, I think it's ridiculous to bitch about product placement in a franchise that's entire video presence has been to sell a product.

But honestly though, tell me when and what product placement it was exactly that ripped you so far away from the context of the movie that it was a huge negative.

They needlessly shoved the HP product logo in our faces a couple of times, as well as the GMC logo.

The only product placement that ever really bugged me in a movie was the completely out of place Pepsi One machine in Michel Almereyda's Hamlet.

while there are many product placements to choose from in this movie the ones that stand out the most are GMC, and the only one that actually made me a little angry, made me roll my eyes , and took me out of the movie some was the HP placement when the army dude was talking to his wife via matching HP computers on the webcam

People bitching about product placement....do you realize how much harder it is to shoot a 150 million dollar movie without it? Also, did you not notice the big "In Association with Hasbro" in the title credits? This franchise was made to sell toys, get over it..The world runs on money not hopes and dreams

Does it really matter what manufacturer they use? If they used two or three you'd still be bitching about "OMG!!1 How dare they shove GMC and TOYOTA in my face!!!!"

Same thing with the computers... they showed a variety (Apple & HP) and you're still complaining.

Shut the fuck up already. They've gotta use SOMETHING. Someones product will appear in the movie. At least they used something real and didn't make up a lame ass fake company.

Then again, if they did, you'd probably still be bitching about that... "OMG!!!11 why didn't they just use GMC or Ford or something!!!"

It was a good movie.

I loved this movie. Some of the best action sequences I have seen in a long time. Product placement is going to be a part of movies for years to come. It's another way for companies to make cash because they see that in the future it will be much easier to steal and pirate movies so there will be lost revenue. I don't blame them for it at all. Back to the movie though....it was badass and I think I might go see it again in the theaters.

as a fan of G1, this is nothing comparable to the G1 series or any of the post G1 series.

to say we should appreciate this is something laughable. this movie left a lot to be desired.

starscream got no screen time? bumble bee is a camero? at least they didnt make megatron into a tank

Shia's Disturbia had a lot of product placement too. So for Indy 4, I'm fully expecting Harrison Ford to be wearing a Pepsi shirt.

They could have some kind of explanation of the autobot and decepticon symbols. At least then they would know who is good and who is bad.

Here's all I have to say about product placement. As long as an excessive amount of time is not spent dwelling upon the fact that some product is of a particular brand and as long as it's not painfully obvious that it's just shameless, blatant advertising (aka "I, Robot"), I really don't care about product placement. In fact, it adds a little bit of realism to the movie for me. A lot of those items that you saw are so common place that it'd be pretty hard to film any part of the film without capturing some logos in the shot (if you didn't want to go to the extra trouble of digitally editing them out).

As for the movie, I thought it was fucking awesome. I agree that it dragged a little in the middle and a lot of Shia's lines (particularly his attempts to woo Megan Fox) were pure cheese, and that the Decepticons didn't get much individual screen time, but overall the movie did not dissapoint.

i dont mind product placement, when it naturally flows with the movie. (aka Cadillac in the Matrix)

it was way too forced in this movie. the ebay crap was the one that annoyed me the most.

Wow, you are stupid.

I'm not complaining that they used products. It's dumb for them to focus the camera on the product logo for an extra 2 seconds though just to make sure you see it. If I wanted to see an HP commercial, I would stay home and watch TV.

I for one, am absolutely vexed that the entire first half of the movie was an obvious Army advertisement.

And the Lockheed Martin product placement? ManFuckthose guys.

I mean seriously, of all the dumbshit inane things you guys could be annoyed about (such as anything involving 'hackers') you get pissed because Optimus Prime is Peterbuild and BumbleBee is a KICK ASS camaro. Would you rather they used some retarded made up car? Or are you so god damn stupid that if they removed all the logos from the GM vehicles you wouldn't know what it was?

GEE THAT LOOKS LIKE A CAMARO BUT THERE'S NO BOWTIE SO IT MUST NOT BE!!!!1111

I loved this movie. And on that note...they haven't shown me 1 product i wasn't already well aware of so it really didn't bother me. Just seemed like another 'busy' city filled with a varity of cars and people using commonly found computers.

Yeah, but look what the military did for the movie. Do you realize how much military equipment was brought in for scenes in the movie? A metric shit-ton. Bay has HUGE pull with the pentagon on getting planes, tanks, soldiers, equipment. But they want something out of it too.. they want to use the exposure as a recruiting tool. Both sides win.. Bay gets real military stuff for his film, the military gets to look appealing to the public.

Read the article Wired had on Transformers from this past issue. Good info on a lot that's being talked about here...

Interestingly, when Bumblebee is first introduced he pulls up right next to a yellow Volkswagon Beetle. I thought that was a nice contrast/inside joke.

The only time the product placement really bothered me was the whole eBay thing and the one scene where all of the Autobots are driving through the desert. That was like a 30 long Chevy commercial with flashy cut scenes and the camera focusing in on the brand name. When product placement is done realistically, that's fine, but that one scene was a little over the top.

I actually thought the whole EBay thing was suppose to be more for comic relief than blatant product placement. "Lolz, the good guys found out the information they need to save the world by googling for it!"

I LOLed so hard at those seriously upset at the product placement. If that is only thing that drives you nutts, then its a great movie. If it irks you so bad, then pretty much ignore any major kids/action/sports/toy/disney movie that will be made LOL.

Thought it was excellent for all the reasons stated. The product placement did not bother me, b/c its product placement.

Going to see it again...I agree some of the action sequence were shaky, which was a lil annoying, but damn they were great.

Absolutely loved the movie. Gonna see it again in about an hour.

I think the only part that detracted from it was some of the more adult themes in it. It was a little more crude than I would have liked, especially when a movie like that is going to draw a lot of kids. It might be a little over their heads, but that doesn't make things any better.

I did find the crude parts to be funny, but I thought the film could have been just as enjoyable without them.

You guys take things way too seriously. I saw the movie wednesday night and couldn't tell you one product that I saw. I watched the movie to be entertained and I was. I paid no attention to what computer anyone used.

As for Ebay, everyone knows what that is and I thought it was a pretty good use of it.

Yea, if you thought hair bands and spandex was cool. I think your nostalgia is getting the better of you because I watched that cartoon recently and it was terrible. The only interesting aspect of it, when taken in the context of cartoons, was Optimus Prime's death.

The beginning scene with Blackout was worth the $7 alone. And that part when Scorponok launches off his back ->

The only product placement I actively took notice of was the 360, didn't care though.

Time to buy more toys.
