Michael Bradley scores the lone goal late in the game.

Ugly match in the rain and we were not that good for long stretches. Freddy replaced Twellman and gave a spark. Edu played really well. Young guns are bringing it.

The USA wins a road game in Europe and it's not against Poland!

^ replay is tonight but I wouldn't really recommend watching it, it was a very boring game.

Adu looked really good in his limited time and holy shit I wish Twellman would never play another US game in his life. Agreed about Edu, he also looked good -- It's too bad for him our midfield is pretty full at the moment.

i know i have mentioned it before somewhere, but i will have to reiterate, twellman does not need to play for us team. i dont care how many goals he scores in the mls, he has never and will never succeed at the national level. and im tired of seein him appear all the time.

THe U-20's did look good. We should make some noise in the U-23 Olympic tournament. It does seem as though Twellman doesn't belong with the national team anymore. I was glad to see Adu have such good foot work and crossing. Donovan hasn't looked too good on the free kicks, but he does have a nice snap header that I would like to see him use when recieving an Adu cross.

The last game this year will take place this Saturday at 9am on FSC. We will be playing South Africa in Johannesburg.

Here is the roster. Donovan was on it originally but got a calf injury playing in an exhibition match for the Galaxy against Minnesota. He was not replaced. The highlight is first callup for Josmer Altidore. He is good.

ROSTER BY POSITION
GOALKEEPERS (2) – Brad Guzan (Chivas USA), Tim Howard (Everton FC)
DEFENDERS (5) –Carlos Bocanegra (Fulham FC), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Dan Califf (Aalborg BK), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard de Liege)
MIDFIELDERS (7) – Freddy Adu (SL Benfica), DaMarcus Beasley (Glasgow Rangers), Michael Bradley (SC Heerenveen), Maurice Edu (Toronto FC), Benny Feilhaber (Derby County), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Eddie Lewis (Derby County)
FORWARDS (2) – Josmer Altidore (New York Red Bulls), Clint Dempsey (Fulham FC)

Remember, on November 25th the World Cup Qualifier Draw will be done in Durban. The USA will figure out who they play in the CONCACAF semifinal round. Those will start next summer.

Come to think of it, my roster I listed was a week old and I think Derby didn't release Lewis.

i wish we could find a defender to replace bocanegra, he seems to always find a way to mess 1 play up per game. and that 1 play usually results in a goal. also, i dont understand why Spector hasnt gotten a consistent call-up yet. looks like he has been moved to the midfield with aston villa and he just scored last weekend(harshly ruled an own goal).

im not sure if its because we hire mls coaches as national team managers, but they seem to play the hell out of some mls players more so the european-based players, that are playing much better talent and quality.

[Edited on November 15, 2007 at 5:44 PM. Reason : well...a few of the mls players have recently moved over to europe]

The midfield is way too talented/crowded for somebody like Spector to break in there. If you were suggesting he should play defense for the NT then yeah I might agree he should get a few more appearances. But I also think there are a few guys that are more deserving... Spector has never really impressed me. Guys like DeMerit, Parkhurst, and Simek should get more call-ups IMO.

I also disagree about Boca... sure he's not the best technical defender but there's just something about him that I think is important to have on the field.. he kind of reminds me of Carragher and his role with Liverpool

well id much rather see spector on that list, than eddie lewis. and why wouldnt bradley replace donovan with someone? somebody young to gain experience...his decisions have really been questionable to me so far in his tenure as coach.

^ Why take a guy to South Africa to just sit on the bench? If he wasn't on the first roster, it's not like he'd play now if added.

cause its a friendly. get exposure to the scene, experience practicing with national team squad. and if you play well, you might get some playing time.

why take anyone extra if they are just gonna sit the bench?

He gains the experience of playing with the the core national team players in practices, developing some kind of chemistry on and off the field with them, and maybe impressing a coach enough that he may get another call-up next time and a chance to start the game.

New home jersey... I don't hate it but I'm not sure if I really like it yet. It looks too much like a polo shirt and if anything, it's perfect for Twellman

i dont understand why we change jerseys every year...they need to stick with one design. this one looks terrible to me...but not as bad as the '94 world cup jersey

The previous design (home and away) were probably my favorite in recent memory. I hated the alternates though.

Yeah, they are.

As for us changing, most teams get new jerseys every two years or so so it's not like the US is the only one changing. And aside from a handful of teams like Italy and Brazil, very rarely does it stay the exact same.

http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=622416&page=9

This thread has pictures of a timeline of all our jerseys

This is 100 times better than that light blue pinstripe bullshit, that's for sure. I think the away is just a solid navy blue with red trim --

for the most part, the big teams do change every couple years, but the main design and look stays the same. i cant really think of any teams that change jersey designs as dramatically as the US does in soccer

the 2006-2008 alternate is the one i liked...i didnt realize it was the most recent one

well after the atrocious '94 jerseys, we've generally stayed with a white home/blue away in whatever the current Nike style was. I mean, unless you're just keeping solid color jerseys like Italy and Brazil, it's kind of hard to really stay the same.

I like these the best (the file name is Clint Mathis-usa?)

^ I actually have a knockoff of one of those...it's pretty brutal.

I don't like the new home jersey simply because it looks way too much like the lazy Man U/Barca third that Nike made a few years back.

I think we need to go back to red away jerseys, but the new navy one is nice.
