Hamilton is the cheapest 19 goal 3rd liner out there. He has no linemates and almost put up 20. He will fill the Cullen void and leave some cap room. Great pickup

I was there for that game. that is probably the most important save(s) in franchise history. allowing us to beat the devils in game 5, allowing us to win the series, allowing the molson miracle, allowing the trip to the finals, which gave the team the support (although mostly bandwagon) it so desperately needed.

well now that i think of it, its prolly second behind Ward's second stop on pisani in game 7

Also, Forslund is the man

^thats what they said in '05. not that i'm saying Hamilton is the caliber of Whitney or Stillman, but lets be honest, we didnt need to make the big FA splash that a lot of teams did.

And we didn't need to make a splash because we made our moves before UFA. Looking back, the Whitney and Walker re-signings were huge. Those guys, especially Walker, would have gotten a hell of a lot more on the market after seeing what all these players have been getting over the last few days.

Having a guy like Stillman for 1.75 mil and Williams under contract for 3 years at only 3.5 mil is looking NIICE.

this team doesn't need new players, just the ones we have to play to their potential. If Staal and Ward get back on track, this team wins its division

Now it gets interesting:

http://www.newsobserver.com/796/story/630951.html

Quote :
"While the Canes signed center Jeff Hamilton on the first day of free agency, Rutherford said he'd like to add another candidate for the third-line center vacancy via trade -- allowing the Canes to use Hamilton in a utility role and perhaps moving disgruntled defenseman Anton Babchuk in the process.

"Jeff Hamilton will go there if we don't, which will give us more offense," Rutherford said. "But at the same time, his role is he can play all forward positions, jumping up and playing the point on the power play. I'd still like to add one more forward, a third-line center.""

Quote :
"Hamilton, like Cullen, can also play the point on the power play. Rutherford said that relieves some of the pressure he felt to add another puck-moving defenseman.

As for that deal to shake up the defense, on the table for two weeks and believed to include Niclas Wallin, Rutherford said it is still alive, if not active.

"It's still sitting there," Rutherford said. "Nothing has changed from what we were trying to do. So long as it sits there, it's still open. I really don't know where it's going to go." "

^^haha awesome

I heard Francis just joined gym that my friends mom goes to. Almost as exciting...

BTW: Weekes is a tool. Stole all the glory from Irbe just like Ward did Championship year. Sure is tough to be a goalie at times :-/

Not to mention how in the hell did Weekes steal any glory? People around here still worship Irbe (see: vinylbandit ) like he was the greatest goalie to ever play in the NHL. Weekes, on the other hand; I don't think a lot of people even remember he played in those playoffs, much less made those two saves against Jersey.

Great, we'll get Belfour and let go of Grahame? So at least we keep our alcoholic goalie quota.

Sounds like bullshit.

I think most people remember the Weekes save. I remember it, but I prefer to remember Irbe's diving glove save on Stevie Y in the finals.

No. Instead we should all point and laugh at the Rangers who overpaid him by millions while we were smart enough to let him go.

BTW opening night Wednesday, October 3 vs. Montreal.

I have class

Considering Irbe was the workhorse for the entire season (most games played until Ward came along I believe..or was it Gerber?) getting the team to the playoffs then lil ole' Weekes comes in and plays a few games and becomes the hero, I'd say he stole the glory.

Fuck yea I still worship Irbe!!! What a fucking beast and one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Can't remember what year it was but during canes - jersey game Irbe comes out and fucking levels jersey player at like the top of the circle. Crowd goes fucking nuts. Oh man I miss Irbe :-(

I think the real fans (not the recent wave of bandwagons) remember those saves. I remember being there and watching them...I'm still pissed off at it..... His glove was like a foot or two away from the puck...big whoopdie doo.

sorry I really hate Weekes and glad to see a few more here on the board are with me. I thought everyone loved him. Whenever I see a Weekes jersey I cringe.

regardless of how you feel about weekes, to downplay that save is just a bit silly

it was a great save that basically won us that series

^^^You're an idiot

I guess that means you hate Ward too since he's mostly remembered for the 06 playoffs when Gerber struggled (despite having a great regular season)

naww I don't hate him that much. great young guy coming in and really impressive to win cup and conn smythe rookie year. I was pretty upset though when we traded gerber and made cam number one goalie. I don't think he was ready for it. But he's a terrific guy and very humble. Hopefully he'll stay the way he is though.

And as of Weekes. I was upset that he stole the glory. He did have a great run in the playoffs and no doubt about it. Although i wish it was Irbe taking us that far. After that, canes tried to make him number 1 and he wasn't qualified for the job.

Sorry I get pissed off about the goalie situation a lot cause it seems to me like upper management doesn't care about what some of our goalies have done (mainly Irbe and Gerber in this case). But as they say, business is business.
