yea and now bendtner and adebayor could be in some trouble with the FA:

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=501047&cc=5901

Quote :
"FA to investigate Adebayor-Bendtner clash

The Football Association have requested television footage of the clash between Arsenal players towards the end of last night's Carling Cup semi-final second leg at White Hart Lane, after referee Howard Webb confirmed he had not seen the entire incident.

Tottenham booked a place at Wembley with a resounding 5-1 win over their arch rivals.

During the closing stages, with the tie already lost, Nicklas Bendtner - who had earlier scored an own goal - became involved in an altercation with team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor, and appeared to complain of being headbutted by the Togo international.

Arsenal captain William Gallas stepped in to try to calm matters down, before then himself being confronted by the angry young Danish striker. Eventually, referee Webb had to intervene to restore order.

As the Yorkshire official revealed he did not witness the events in their entirety, the FA have now asked broadcasters to provide any relevant television footage.

Once that is obtained, any incidents will be shown to Webb for his opinion.

Should the referee indicate action would have been taken on the night had he witnessed it first hand, such as a red card for violent conduct, the FA can then retrospectively issue charges against any individuals.

While still photographs in today's press clearly show the Arsenal players involved in some sort of confrontation, it is understood there may not be any footage of the actual alleged headbutt itself.

Adebayor has apologised for his part in the bust-up. 'I think that we should have been more calm during the game and although I was pleased to get a goal back for the team when I came on, I am sorry for the disagreement with my team-mate Nicklas,' Adebayor said on the club's official website.

'We are both passionate about this club and sometimes that can be projected in the wrong way.

'It was a mistake. We want to focus on the games ahead and rely on our squad's great togetherness to achieve a fantastic season.'

The 23-year-old has been in fine form for the Gunners, with his goal on Tuesday night when coming off the bench a 16th of the campaign.

Adebayor firmly believes the events at White Hart Lane will not unsettle Arsene Wenger's squad, which remains very much in the hunt for honours.

The Togo striker said: 'We are a strong unit and what happened last night against Spurs will strengthen our desire and determination to compete for other targets.'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger maintained he was not aware of the incident, while captain Gallas refused to single out anyone for blame.

The France defender said: 'I don't know what happened. I think everybody was disappointed with the score and they were nervous.

'They know they made a mistake. Maybe they will speak with the boss to see why they did that.'

Gallas added: 'All the young boys wanted to go to Wembley and I know it is difficult to accept. The fans are upset and we are upset. All the club are upset - and we have to accept it.

'Now we have to be strong and forget everything because on Saturday we have another big game which will not be easy.'

Gallas declared: 'We have to forget this game and we have to be focused.

'We have to be strong because Newcastle have a new manager and they want a result at the Emirates Stadium.

'For us we have to win that game because we have some ambition.'"

Reds draw Gunners

United and Arsenal will play out the tie of the round after being paired together in the FA Cup last 16.

Having overcome Tottenham in Sunday's thrilling tie at Old Trafford, the Reds will now entertain Arsene Wenger's side at Old Trafford in the fifth round of the competition.

The Reds may feel slightly unfortunate to have drawn such difficult opponents, especially as Chelsea and Liverpool were handed home ties against Huddersfield and Barnsley respectively.

Incredibly, United have now drawn Premier League opposition in each of the last 10 FA Cup ties (plus two replays). In order, they are: Arsenal, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Watford, Middlesbrough, Reading, Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Liverpool.

Yep, a shitty draw for both sides but even worse for Arsenal I think. Champions League is 4 days later so I know there is no way Wenger will field many starters with AC Milan coming up. Meanwhile United has a much more manageable (although still tough) opponent in Lyon.

"DERBY, England (AP) -An unidentified American consortium reportedly has bought English Premier League club Derby County.

Britain's Press Association said late Friday that the multimillion deal has been completed and will be announced in Saturday's matchday program ahead of a news conference Monday.

"This new investment will establish the Derby County brand worldwide through successful alliances with sporting teams in the USA, the Far East and Africa,'' Derby chairman Adam Pearson said in the program for Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round match with Preston. "The key aim is to continue to build the infrastructure of the club at Pride Park and obviously develop a squad which is renowned as a Premier League force.

"This will add new financial firepower to the squad.''

The Rams are in last place, having won just once in 23 games, and almost certainly will be relegated to the League Championship division at the end of the season.

The report said the investors will assume debt totaling $49 million. Derby would be the fourth Premier League club owned by Americans, joining Manchester United, Liverpool and Aston Villa."

maybe initially... but he's arguably as good if not better than howard was when he left for the prem

mostly sucks for mls because he'll leave on a free transfer after his contract is up so they're missin out on the 4 mil

Did anyone watch the ManU/tottenham match? Has to be the best match I have seen all year. It is funny Tottenham has always reminded me of the EPL version of NC State. Sure enough after playing their ass off for 93 mins they give up a corner on the final kick of the game.

1 pt at Tottenham isn't a bad result. Only 2 more hard road matches left for Utd.

Rooney got his 5th yellow cards today and will be out against City next week

Ferguson needs to quit playing Scholes and Giggs. Both should be on a senior circuit. Anderson is a complete badass, and nani is better than giggs.

^^ I think to be considered (unless you have a EU passport), you have to play in 75% of your country's official games (excludes friendlies) in the last two years and your country has to be in the Top 70 FIFA rankings. There some special exceptions to the 75% rule, younger talents and stuff like that... which is why Guzan being denied was odd because only so many goalkeepers can get caps... I think Iraq hasn't been able to play enough games to allow them to be ranked in the top 70 so he was automatically denied a permit.

^^agreed, giggs was at his best about 5 years ago...hes like 34 now, nani is perfectly capable of playing the left wing...and with anderson, carrick, and hargreaves(assuming hes not injured), there should be no reason scholes should start. both these players are good, but they should be relegated to sub players now... like ole gunnar dwindled down to.

"U.S. may host Premiership games
English league to announce plan for overseas matches
Posted: Thursday February 7, 2008 10:22AM; Updated: Thursday February 7, 2008 11:12AM

LONDON (AP) -- England's Premier League was set to announce plans Thursday to play 10 games overseas every season starting in 2011.

Under proposals approved by the league and chairmen of the 20 clubs, the season would be expanded so that five cities outside of Britain would host two matches each.

New York, Beijing and Tokyo are reportedly among the potential venues for the games, which would count toward the league standings.

The league called a news conference Thursday afternoon to announce the details.

Despite protests from coaches that their players already suffer from too many matches, the switch to a 39-game season would start in 2011 when a new television broadcast agreement is scheduled to take effect.

Following success of the top American leagues in staging football, basketball, hockey and baseball games outside of the United States, the Premier League could schedule the extra match for January.

Most Premier League clubs already embark on annual preseason overseas tours to promote themselves and boost revenue. Manchester United and Liverpool have already toured Asia in the offseason.

Chelsea played AC Milan and D.C. United last year in a preseason tour of the United States, while Manchester United even took part in a friendly match in Saudi Arabia last month during the middle of the regular season.

The NFL held its first regular season game outside North America in London last October when the New York Giants beat the Miami Dolphins 13-10, the same month the Celtics and the Minnesota Timberwolves played a preseason NBA game there.

The NHL opened in London in September when the Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks and the Los Angeles Kings contested the first regular-season games to be played in Europe, and is set to open next season with four games in Stockholm and Prague."
