perhaps the camera was shielded from the EMP effect by being under the bridge (which happened to be made of solid lead?)

Funny, I was also kinda thinking FAEB would be a likely choice. It'd definitely help get rid of all of the smaller monsters being dropped.

I was wondering - if FAEB wouldn't kill it and nuclear weapons wouldn't/couldn't be used, where would you go from there? What other arms could be used against it? Chemical or biological? Not likely. I was thinking it'd be interesting to shoot the monster with a shipboard railgun. I know it's not a practical implementation, but it'd be a hell of a good target if conventional weapons can't penetrate it.

I saw the 3:00 showing at southpoint today. In retrospect I really enjoyed the movie... especially the kinda dark chick. She was my favorite char by the time she said that superman line. I liked the idea of the camera being something a random dude was carrying around and not a more omniscient overseer, but I was a little too nauseous to get the full enjoyment out of the movie at the time. For so many scenes when they were running the camera would just face the ground shaking it just felt like filler. But I did like the movie, and I hope there is a sequel with standard camera style, even it the people it follows has a very narrow focus.

Meh, not the worst horror movie out there. It was interesting at least, but I think the assumption on the part of the director/writers that the movie was good enough to stand without explanation was presumptuous. A sequel wouldn't be worth watching and the entertainment value of the film is not sufficient to justify the complete lack of post-mortem summary you'd expect given the way it was presented.

I really enjoyed this movie. I am glad they just showed the video tape and did not explain anything outside of it. You really got the experience of being in a crisis situation versus watching a story about one.

There is no way to justify it surviving the assault the military put on it.

Godzilla can be justified because he has freaking scales(armor).

Something like that living in the ocean with skin like that would have been obliterated by those bombs. Unless its from space or something.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread too much but I saw this on Dark Horizons:

Quote :
"Meanwhile at the premiere of "Cloverfield" earlier in the week, director Matt Reeves was asked by Bloody Disgusting about the rumors that a sequel is already being planned. Reeves responded "Only time will tell. While we were on set making the film we talked about the possibilities and directions of how a sequel can go. The fun of this movie was that it might not have been the only movie being made that night, there might be another movie! In today's day and age of people filming their lives on their iphones and handy cams, uploading it to youtube...That was kind of exciting thinking about that.""

Yea, i def saw this and was wondering what the hell it was, figured it was the "monster"

it was quite possibly one of the most painful movies to watch in my lifetime. I almost seized up from its awefulness

I really enjoyed it. I never expected an explanation of what the creature was or where it came from, it doesn't fit the nature of the film. The most ridiculous thing I thought was the fact that Rob went back for Beth in the first place. The movie started off with this high-school-drama BS at a party in the first place, so when the monster I attacked I was like "Finally!".

It looks like that Lilly chick did survive though. I could see a sequel being set up like "In 2008, a monster attacked NY city, killing thousands of people. But there's one person he missed..." And then it launches into a Kill-Bill, B-movie type action sequence where she starts taking down tons of little bugs that spawned from the creature. lol that'd be terrible.

Hud was funny, although most of his dialogue could be summed up with "Rob!" and "oh my god!" He strikes me as sort of a loser who only has friends because he hangs out with Rob.

Set the record for highest January opening ever, which was held previous by Star Wars: Special Edition. Weird. Probably doesn't hold for most tickets sold.

As for the "falling in the water at the end" thing, here is what I've found from IMDB:

also:

Quote :
"You can clearly see an object flying into the ocean behind Rob and Beth in the closing shot, though Abrams has stated that this is a satellite, which was part of the marketing campaign for the film"

It's all from the IMDB FAQ page for Cloverfield:

Meh, I don't mind that there was no explanations, character depth, etc...but I was expecting some kind of twist. Instead, the movie was basically what I expected after watching the trailer. Kinda disappointed...

I've watched the end over and over again online and can't see a splash. It was a copy someone recorded in a theater but it's a little bright so it's hard to see anything on the water.

The monsters ability to absorb damage only makes sense if it was a weapon from space sent in egg form.

Saw it today. I thought the movie was awesome. I was even one of those who read every spoiler and watched cellphone footage before I saw it and it still delivered. I can only assume that those of you picking it apart over cellphone batteries, length of the tape, and whatever else are only doing so because you loved the film so much you need to find any little reason to nitpick on it to restrain your glee.

Hud reminded me of this polish kid I used to work with who was the biggest insecure doofus I ever met. He was irritating as shit but I was sad when he died (Hud that is....not the polish kid). I saw the thing drop in the water at the end but only because I was looking for it. I couldn't even guess what it was.

The biggest disappointment was the scene where Marlena "pops". I wish I hadn't known about it before hand (even the trailer gave too much away on this). Watching that chick blow-up with no prior knowledge would've made me like .

Finally in the scene where Rob is looking on the rack for a cellphone battery you can see on the left of the screen one of those giant-sized universal remotes. This reminded me that I intended to buy one a while ago because I keep losing mine. I will buy one tomorrow.

Can't wait for the DVD. Pausing that shit, no doubt.

The stuff at Coney Island, there's a little something there and I don't want to give it away 'cause the fun is sort of to find it, but I will say this: there's a funny thing, you look at the shot and until you see it you don't see it and you really don't see it and obviously you don't 'cause none of you have seen it, but once you see it you'll never stop seeing it."

This is from DIRECTOR Matt Reeve about a sequel to this movie.....JJ did not write this..he produced it. The quote from JJ everyone keeps taking is from BEFORE the movie was finished and while it was still in the pre-production part. The director's agreeing with the mass public that it's an alien...not a satellite. Regardless of how many times it is argued, the movie just feels like a better ending thinking that you saw the monster drop 2 weeks before it showed up.

Glad I'm not the only one. I literally couldn't watch the screen at some points because I thought I was going to hurl. It was awful.

Other than that, it was a pretty good movie.

Anyone notice all the Nokia advertising? I hate when they do that.

I don't get motion sickness so I don't mind films shoot like this (Bourne Supremacy).

The advertising doesn't bother me at all if it is done right (like this movie did). Nothing seems out of place and nothing lingered too long on any products.
