So I've been playing it for about 3 hrs straight now and I must say I am thoroughly impressed. As an avid player of melee and the original, this game is REALLY fun. I read on a few sites that the physics is a little slower on this game then in melee but so far I can't really tell the difference. My impressions on characters so far:

Fox: Not nerfed, he is actually exactly the same as he is in melee except for some new taunts and stuff. Just as fast as he always is. Except now he has a lot more speed characters that rival him.

Metaknight: Hands down a fucking badass. Even his simplest attacks look freaking awesome. He doesn't have a projectile but he doesn't need one. He is really fast and his recovery is amazing. And you can do some really good edge guarding with him. Once you do your second jump, you can flap your wings 5 more times and in addition to that, you can glide back or do a screw attack if someone is trying to edge guard you. I was playing online earlier and right when my opponents enabled their third jump to come back to the stage, I would fly out hit them a few times (he hits multiple times very quickly) then fly back to the stage no problem. His only weakness I would say is a short range and fairly easy to dodge final smash.

Diddy Kong: Very agile, in fact I would say he is just as fast as Fox is when it comes to response time and action recovery, but he is stronger. He has a fairly weak third jump but his final smash is REALLY good. I still haven't quite figured out how his move set works though... one of his attacks just lazily throws banana peels.

Zero-Suit Samus: Also very quick, she is pretty much the opposite of regular Samus in terms of speed and firepower, but her attacks flow together very well and her laser whip has a gigantic range. The main problem with her though is if you want to switch to her from regular Samus (aside from the final smash), you have to do up-down-up-down on the taunt which leaves you very vulnerable.


Pit: Very good all around, he is very similar to Link except his recovery is probably the best in the game. Aside from just flapping his wings a number of times, instead of just gliding back to the stage, he can actually go up (unlike Metaknight who can only go forward).

Ike: Pretty much just like Marth.

Pokemon Trainer: Obviously this guy has a steep learning curve but I can see him being very powerful if learned to the fullest. The final smash is great.

Captain Olimar: You can't see what the hell he is doing because all those damn Pikmin are following him everywhere.


The new stages are very cool, I especially like the Pictochat, Warioware, and Mario Kart ones. The sound and music is really good too.

Ah yes, and online play, it took a while to find people to play (probably because it was like 3-4 in the morning) but I had no lag issues or anything. Haha there are a bunch of people online playing as their old melee characters. They are obviously thinking "hey I can pwn this dude because I know how to use Fox already." Well what they didn't think of was that it takes Fox forever to power up his third jump when getting back to the stage, and Metaknight will really fuck your shit up. Also, I can't see how anyone can play this game with the Wiimote+nunchuck. I was playing with my old Wavebird, and it was just as awesome as ever.

Finally, friend codes! As far as I can tell, when doing online worldwide brawl, you can only play a basic 2 minute match. It doesn't look like you can do stock battles. But anyways, we need to share our Smash friend codes so we can all play each other.... mine is as follows:

heh. I just got this game. It's pretty cool. The only things I don't like so far: WTF is up with the announcer's voice? And I also miss that laundry list of achievements you had at the end of each match. This time around, all you get is a basic score.

Ike is very different from Marth. Much more of a difference than the one between Roy and Marth. His up+b and left/right+b attacks are totally new. Most of normals were different IIRC.

I agree about Metaknight, really fun character. Pretty badass too.

Subspace Emissary is kind of 'eh' so far. I like most of the new enemies and bosses, but the platforming is pretty bland.

Only went online once last night and it took awhile to get a match going (I don't care what time it is, people all over the east coast would've been online last night).

the best part is the music. okay its one of the best parts.

online play is pretty damn near flawless (minus voicechat, the ability to switch up prefences in between matches). i played for like 2 hours with my buddy in Phoenix once he got his hands on his copy.

MetaKnight is an awesome character. I think he's my new favorite. Squirtle isn't too bad, either. Diddy Kong isn't too good in my opinion, and neither is Olimar. Lucas has a ridiculous Final Smash. Wario kind of sucks but the Wario Waft is awesome if you power it up.

finally got it tonight and played for maybe an hour. i never really played a smash bros game before, so i'm still tryin to figure out how things work and basic strategy. i tried to go online to get my butt kicked but i couldnt get anyone to join a game. i did spectate a few and lost every bet i placed. good times. so whats the point of taunts? i thought it was just somethin fun to do when playin with friends, but i saw it mentioned a couple times in this thread like it has an actual purpose?

i think all taunts do are net you a few extra points if you perform one after throwing somebody out of the ring. Damn, the Subspace Emissary is long as shit. I've already got around 4 hours clocked, and I don't think I'm anywhere near the end. This game has the most awesome collection of music ever. I almost shit myself when I heard the Bramble Blast song from DKC2, and almost shit myself again when I heard the Pyramid song from Super Mario Land for GB

^Lol that's actually a pretty good idea, I only have the most basic headset though so I think the controller would just automatically turn off after a few mins. If you have a wireless headset you could do it through Ventrillo on the PC. And yeah the music is really good, I was really happy to hear the final boss music from the first Donkey Kong Country. On taunting: in the Warioware level, there is a stage where you have to taunt in order to get the power up. Also, as Samus, you can taunt up and down really really quickly to lose the power suit without having to use a final smash. It also lets you say prewritten messages to friends you are playing against.

I would hope that if you are in chat mode it would stay on, but even so you could just push UP or something after each fight to keep it active.
