I finished it yesterday, damn awesome game. I can't remember the last Single player game that drew me in like that.

Only dissapointment...

**semi-spoiler**

the savings the sisters ending is pretty weak

i still have 3 achievements to get because i didn't handle the cohen situation the way i needed to so i was one weapons upgrade short and i didn't get one of the secret achievements

i'll knock that out when i beat it on hard

I'm surprised how fast everyone is finishing it

What is the current stance on replay value?

This game is selling very well and is single handedly pulling Take-Two out of the gutter.

"Shares of Take-Two (nasdaq: TTWO - news - people ) rose $1.15, or 8.6%, to $14.55, after the video game publisher announced that BioShock is now available in North America for personal computers and Microsoft (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people )'s Xbox 360.

The strong reviews point to heavy sales. Through pre-orders, BioShock is already Amazon.com (nasdaq: AMZN - news - people )'s bestselling video game this week.

The more I hear about the game's "originality" the more and more I think of the late 90s Dark Forces games.

Though maybe it gets hella original later on in the game.

look, the game is no revolution but it dares to be fucking different in the endless mind waste of first person shooters out there. It's so damn creative and the story and environment are amazing.

I fucking love it. I give it up to Irrational.....GOTY until proven otherwise.

^ True, but it's going to have some stiff competition.

It's gonna be a great year for the 360.

That's kind of how I feel about Mass Effect. I love RPG's, and Bioware makes them better than anyone.

i absolutely loved playing this game, but i don't think the replay value is going to be that high. i'm going to try to get through it one more time on hard to get my last 3 achievements and that will probably be it.

yea I'll probably play it twice...once for fun and once more to get achievements.

By no means does that mean it isn't an awesome game, its totally worth playing at least once.

Cohen's secret room:

Quote :
"I have the achievement. If you killed him after you completed his masterpiece to gain access to his muse chest, you won't be able to get the achievement. If you didn't kill him, go to his apartment (in a later level after the masterpiece in Fort Frolic) to the left youll see two people dancing. To the right is a door that's locked. Kill the dancers, wait for a few minutes and Cohen shows up. Kill him and then you'll have access to his room and there's also a weapons upgrade station in there."

I've heard all the hype about this game but I haven't read much about it. What sets this apart from other FPSs? The customer reviews I read all seem to say that it's so great because of "atmosphere," or in other words they really don't know/can't say how it is better or different.

Doom 3, F.E.A.R., Farcry, etc. all had "atmosphere." So, what's so revolutionary?

Environment is nuts.
Atomsphere is nuts.
Graphics are nuts.
Weapons, upgrades, custom build-its, Plasmids, Genetic combos are nuts.
Storyline is really nuts, and awesome.
Enemies are out of this world nuts, tons of variety and craziness.
Philosophical choices and ways to strengthen and level yourself (semi RPG style) is nuts
Combat is nuts.

I dont know what else to tell you except get off of your duff and try the demo if you care. Don't come in and limp troll a title that is this definably awesome. There's no debate on that. If you don't like the game, it's a personal tastes issue or something odd. There's a reason why the game is one of the highest rated games of all time, and thats not from one site, that's the freaking aggregate.

The point's been made again and again. Where other games excel in 1 or 2 areas, this game pretty nails everything, while simultaneously raising the bar in several areas. Best environments I've seen in a game, most immersing sound I've ever heard in a game, most creative (although often unchallenging) combat scenarios I've ever played out, brought all together with a very good plot. Basically, play this game at night, in a dark room where the lighting in the game effects the lighting in your room, turn up your sound system, and I promise you you'll never look at video gaming the same way again.

Looks like I'll have to get a gfx card with pixel shader 3.0 before I can play this

I'll probably just wait until I upgrade in a year or so. There really aren't any other motivating factors to buy a new card or to go ahead and upgrade now. Every other game works fine. It looks like there is a community that is out there trying to patch the game to work with 2.0 cards, I'll have to keep an eye on that.

Or just buy a 360 and play it now. Plays wonderful on it.

I hear the PC version isn't too demanding, runs fine on my PC - and i have a moderate video card. Just a 7800gt.

I don't want to beat it yet, it's so much fun. Been playing through slowly.

^depends on the resolution, dx9 or dx10, and what settings you want to turn up. Sure any game will work if you keep the default settings. It just looks so much better when you crank everything up at 1920 by 1200 or 2560 by 1600.

^^when you try to exit a lvl without getting all the little sisters, it tells you. Also if you pause the game it tells you how many are on that level and how many you have harvested/rescued

Just beat it, got the "bad" ending because I suck at FPS games and I needed the ADAM

I really wish the endings were longer, but apparently I'm the only one in the world who liked the "good" ending (saw it on teh youtube).

I really enjoy the long endings

makes you actually feel like you've won something

The endings where it's 5 minutes of "THE END!!! GOOD JOB!!!" and then 45 minutes of credits piss me off

I'm about to go crazy. My game keeps coming up with the "unable to read disk" error at the same spot in the game. I went back to gamestop and traded in the disk for another one and its still doing it! The kicker is I'm playing on a "new" xbox that I finally got back last week after sending my old one in for repair 2 months ago.

ive had the problem before, but it was always with the same game. i believe they recommend clearing the cache out. maybe it has some corrupted cached file for that part of the game.

just finished this game today. wasnt overly long, but i enjoyed it. i kinda felt like most of the weapons were worthless though. i used the pistol maybe once the whole game. the crossbow and chemical thrower are pretty much novelties as well (though you get a ton more ammo for the chem thrower than bow). i could have easily done the entire thing with just a machine gun and shotgun. i used the launcher to make things a bit easier. the same is pretty much true for the plasmids.

might as well just take all the wrench related plasmids and cruise through using weapons only for big daddies.

Man, I understand where you guys are coming from, but a game shouldn't be labeled as "just a rental" because it doesn't have a multi-player mode. That attitude is the reason games like this are so few are between. Hell, this game barely saw the light of day. No one wanted publish it and it wasn't even green lit until they agreed to put in the 360. People just don't appreciate a good single player experience anymore.

You pay $10 to be entertained for 2 hours at the movie theater. You pay $50-$60 here to be entertained for 15-20 hours. What's the difference?

Yeah what happened to playing the game over again? No one likes to take out an old game and replay it? What happened to the old days of NES and SNES? I mean games today are so much more complex, and yet people still complain about only playing them once? I mean i've played through HL2 atleast 2-3 times, and i'm on my second run with Bioshock. You figure out new things every time you replay it. Just now I was playing through COD4 again on a harder setting, and the strategies are completely different.

it was more fun as a kid playing through chrono trigger 20 times than it would be to play through this game again

mine definitely has, towards the end i was just flying through rooms and probably missing out on some little things, but damn i can't plasmid and wrench these dudes but for so long before i'm ready for the credits

....plus, i just ain't got time for that shit (as far as going back through old games)

last time i even replayed a single player was RE4, and i can't even remember what before that

just too much out there
