"i guess every other business (i.e hillsbourgh street), apartment complex, and the (pay-2 park) places like VAL park have signs everywhere warning specifically that (non customers, people w/o parking permits, etc) will be towed even listing the number and name of the tow company just b.c they are all "nice guys"
"

Well for starters, there's the big sign at the entrance to the complex that says and I quote:

"Parking for employees and customers. Towing enforced" and then lists the name and number of the towing company.

But if that wasn't clear enough, why didn't the signs you posted along with these signs:

not clarify for you that the lot was a private lot.

Quote :
"they have to follow Raleigh and NC towing laws dumb ass"

And did they not? The lot was marked as private at all entrances, there are multiple signs inside warning that the lot was private. That towing was enforced is specified and the contact info for the towing company was listed (just because you couldn't find it at 2 am doesn't mean it wasn't there).

Furthermore, as pointed out above:

Quote :
"Any person violating any of the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be only fined not more than ten dollars ($10.00) in the discretion of the court."

means that they still had the right to tow your friends and they still have to pay up.

one of my best friends (rip) worked for ACE and i went along with him on many of his night routes

i have it on good info that some of the guys used to steal decals from cars at KP and other places just to tow them. i actually know 'a guy' who turned in a list of decals to be on the 'no steal/no tow' list

ace is a scumbag company and they all prey on college kids. ive been down hillsborough st in a tow truck between 1:45 and 2:15 am over and over until a fish was caught more times than i can count.

my car was given free parking at that old hardees by UT for a couple semesters... (i think where zaxbys is now) and in turn my friends made at least a tow a day off other kids thinking it was ok to park there (they didnt have the tiny ace towing sticker on their windshield) - shit was awesome when i lived miles off campus and all my classes were in nelson

ive seen numerous dumbass college kids pay 50 bucks to be "let off the hook" so they could just drive home

ive also seen some thug motherfuckers show up at the yard at 3am with pistols and shit demanding their cars back. theres fuckups on both sides. its too bad both sides wont follow the rules, but theres so much room for easy money in that job, and with easy money comes criminal activity

ps the misdemeanor conviction for the driver is i think a pretty bad thing, moreso than the 10 bucks. theres only a certain number of misedemeanors, even class 3, before someone goes to jail

I think you're missing one of the key points being made. If there is no sign at all I'd probably err on the side of caution and not park there. If there is a sign saying the reasons for which I could be towed and I don't meet those criteria then I might just park there.

Except that doesn't make any sense. One sign allows the violation of the other sign. They conflict.

^ the second sign in no way says "wolfline riders must park along outer edges, other non customers you're good to go, ignore the other sign", nor does it say "only wolfline riders will be towed" since the second sign does not exclude any group, only lists one particular group that the store is having problems with and make it crystal clear to this group that they can not park there. there is no conflict

If one sign says that only customers and employees can park in the lot, that means Wolfline riders can't park there.

Except for that fact that one sign clearly says they can in certain spots. It doesn't say they can't park there at all. It says they can under certain circumstances, despite being neither employees nor customers.

Therefore, the latter sign is contradictory to the former sign.

I was just there and saw no signs about private parking. I came in the entrance on the wolfline side of the lot. There were about 10 of the Wolfline riders park on the perimeter though and not one saying no overnight parking, etc.

that second set of pictures, the one that you can see the food lion building in the background...that sign is for the parking that is in the building which is not even connected to Food Lion.

Food Lion is a totally different lot

"Tired of being towed
Joe Wright
Issue date: 10/16/07 Section: Viewpoint

It was reported that in November of 2002, Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker received a 1:15 a.m. phone call from Margaret Rose Murray. Murray was calling to tell Meeker about something she believed gave our city a bad name--predatory towing. Murray had some friends in from out-of-town. They had gone downtown and parked in the lot in front of the BTI Center, a lot that was, at the time, unused and empty. When they returned to the lot around 1 a.m. they found all of their cars had been towed. There were no clear signs stating that towing was enforced; the group was shocked.

The next day Mayor Meeker announced that it was time to crack down on predatory towing in Raleigh. Over the next two years predatory towing was discussed in the City Council and by local media outlets. Finally, in December of 2004, new legislation concerning predatory towing became active. Meeker declared that private lots that would tow had to clearly mark that no parking was allowed and that towing would be used to enforce this.

Meeker also declared that towing companies could not charge more than $100 for a tow made without consent and that if you return to your car before the truck leaves the lot you can get your car back for a charge not exceeding $50. Tow lots also have to have somebody on the lot 24 hours a day so that they can respond to a driver's call within 15 minutes and have the car released within 45 minutes. The legislation did a good bit to help with some of the towing problems downtown but unfortunately, there is still an issue here at N.C. State.

The sharks of the towing business are now swimming around N.C. State. As a State student you undoubtedly have either been towed yourself or know somebody who has been towed. Whether they are lurking around the Food Lion on Western Boulevard or hunting around Sakura Express and Sylvia's Pizza, the tow trucks are always out looking for an easy $100. The towing companies use various gray areas in the law and unclear signs to take advantage of us, the students of N.C. State.

Right now one of the biggest projects Meeker is working on is a complete revitalization of Raleigh. There will be a new convention center, new parking decks and the Hillsborough Street revitalization project.

Mayor Meeker, before any good can come from the Hillsborough Street revitalization project you have to address the predatory towing issues. One of the main reasons that many people don't use Hillsborough Street more often is because of a fear of being towed, not because it isn't aesthetically pleasing. The Raleigh City Council needs to take an in-depth examination of the towing practices surrounding the N.C. State community and the possible monetary kickbacks that several local businesses are receiving from towing companies.

It's time for the predatory towing around N.C. State to end. Join me in letting Mayor Meeker know about this problem that is affecting more than 30,000 Raleigh citizens."

Since only wolfline riders are penalized by the sign, then wolfline drivers may use the lot whenever they please with no threat of towing since they can never be riders of the wolfline.

no you questions has nothing to do with the debate beyond the fact that it makes no sense. what are you going to ask next?? "What if NCSU decided to park the actual wolfline busses at foodlion; should they be towed" durrr de durrrrrr

do not be stupid

beyond the normal intuition that would give your question no value to the discussion their is also the issue that the "wolfline drivers" would be parking at foodlion during peak business hours which also corresponds to the times when the wolfline actually does service the greek way stop.

it's funny how basically the signs say that it's no big deal if you park in the lot, but some of you people are taking the side of an unholy alliance of an evil towing company and an unscrupulous night manager. CLEARLY the only harm committed that night was the wrongful towing of vehicles from a place where it has always been ok to park after store hours.

SHAME on you people. SHAME.
