the theory behind all of that is that you can easily create a dampening field or effect (shields) that prevent 'beaming'

transporters also have a limited range... come on you guys know about signal degradation even now...

So you're willing to accept, at face value, that they could somehow figure out how to transport someone but that signal degradation... just too much to overcome.

the power required to operate a transporter increases exponentially as distance increases.

I'm fairly certain there was several instances in Voyager (and perhaps other treks) where people were transported either with alien technologies, or "glitches" otherwise, over entire quadrants of the galaxy... so in the trek verse, this is definitely possible.

man, they always find ways to beam through the shields when they need to. Sometimes they even fly shuttles through them. So what i don't get is why they never just beamed over a bomb.. or better yet, beamed the other crew into space.

i think a more definitive answer must be, A - plot device, or B - it's science fiction.

but yes according to their system of physics that would do it as well.

it looks pretty badass. i was skeptical at first, and still am from a trekkie perspective, but it looks like it will be an entertaining flick.

I will admit that last trailer looked interesting, but the cast that they got looks so douchey, especially kirk.

i have a confession

i've never like star trek. i hated the show. i've always looked down on those who love it and thought they were total nerds (although i am to some degree a nerd, but in a different way i think).

i recently got into comic books so this may be a contributing factor.

i saw the trailer at watchmen on friday. i am definitely going to see this movie.

i think if you got into comic books you're pretty much a nerd....

though trekkies with stuff all over their dwellings are pretty odd....

Im sorry, but I have to admit.

I didnt think this movie was going to be very good. I was going to go see it regardless because I got to see what they are trying to do with the series.

BUT, this new trailer is so well done, and gets me pumped for something I wasnt interested in.

GG whoeverthefuck put that thing together.

It's going to be weird seeing 'rold-y and Sylar in Star Trek though.

Couple of clips:

The clip with Uhura is pretty awful, but I kinda liked the Bones clip.

This would have been fucking badass: the actual world premiere took place as a "surprise" in austin. The audience thought they were going to see star trek II and 10 minutes of footage from the new movie. Instead they got to see the entire new movie.
