but he hasnt signed the deal has he?

Quote :
"Davis repeatedly denied his interest in the Browns' opening, and agreed to terms last week on a contract extension with the Hurricanes. Davis never signed the deal and it became apparent that he and Miami officials had some issue that remained."

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/news/2001/01/30/davis_browns_ap/"

Quote :
"''He told us he made the trip to get leverage, because he wanted to get some things done here, like a new weight room,'' said Matt Walters, a starting defensive tackle. ''He also told us that he's not going to go anywhere for a while. He said after a couple of years, he didn't know, but for now he's staying here.''"

sounds like what he did to miami

be that as it may...

Quote :
""My family and I felt like Chapel Hill was the right place last year and are even more convinced after being here for one season," Butch Davis said. "I'm appreciative of the show of support from Dick Baddour, the administration, Chancellor Moeser and the Board of Trustees. I'm confident we will continue to make progress in all phases of the football program. Tammy, Drew and I look forward to a long and successful career at the University of North Carolina. This should put to rest any speculation of where I'll be coaching in the future.""

....sounds pretty certain, even for him

i guess anything's possible though

"Hahaha, wow, a $300k raise after a season like this. They really are desperate."

I imagine that 300k is not a big deal if they really think he is the guy to turn their program around. That isn't nearly as much as what most of you idiots (actually i didn't read through this thread... the "you idiots" refers to the PackPride thread) thought he would get from Arkansas... Personally, I'm happy about it. I think State and UNC both being good does nothing but good things as far as making North Carolina (the state) an attractive place for recruits to look. If that means that UNC does well too, then so be it. They aren't in our division and as long as we beat them every year head to head it doesn't really matter to me.

Fun's over...

BobLee says:
Quote :
"
Jimmy Sexton planned this heist well before we lost to three in-state rivals and are reduced to “bragging” that “we are the best 3-8 team in America”. Gulp … In their defense, its how the rock star gendre operate. We are supposed to understand that. Old Well Kool-Aid tends to blur reality.

The real question is not Deal Or No Deal. We are well beyond the "practice safe sex" lecture now. The Boyz In The Back Room HAVE TO scrape together the non-consecutive unmarked bearer bonds and get them to Jimmy Sexton in a Zero Halliburton attaché case by the appointed day and hour. Dealing with an agent is a new experience for our usually astute Deep Pockets. The next time they will be smarter. This time THEY/UNC/WE GOT SNOCKERED!

As long as The Boyz In The Back Room are the only ones reaching for their wallets, it is just Monopoly Money for the rest of us. Admit it …. You tend to notice gas pump prices and greens fee increases but when it’s “Carl Sagan numbers” you tune out. Another million or so thrown at Butch & His Staff and mega bucks committed to Kenan Expansion is “just numbers”. It WILL eventually manifest itself in PSLs and $60 game tickets. That is when all this “gets real” among the rank and file.

Look for Dickie to delay announcing the rest of the “now we will have to’s” as long as possible. He will, of course, get blamed for it. Hopefully, for his sake, he will be carving duck decoys at Kure Beach when the PSL defecation hits the fan. He better hurry.

"

I am trying to understand how they plan on selling Lifetime Rights when they can't even sell 10 dollar tickets.

This quote taken from InsideCarolina's article on the subject kills me:

Quote :
""We approached Coach Davis about the possibility of extending and enhancing his contract several weeks ago. We recognize that we have one of the nation's best coaches and we wanted to ensure the stability of the program. We were aggressive in pursuing Coach Davis last year before the season ended and we wanted to be ahead of the curve this year."

"

So it was their plan to extend his contract, in the midst of a 3-win season? Sounds like they're pretty poor planners. And the last line talking about being ahead of the curve this year makes me laugh. Mainly because he didn't feel confident enough to say "this year and for years to come." It sounds like they realize this will be a regular occurrence with Big Dumbass. At least they're starting to come to terms with reality.

I am still trying to determine which Butch Davis is at UNC?

Butch A.) University of Miami

Butch B.) Cleveland Browns

Butch C.) Nick Saban in disguise

Butch D.) Both B & C

I am going with D since DB is an idiot for extending his contract over a 3 possibly 4 win season AND more than likely going to add more empty seats to Kenan. At least it will still be a pretty stadium.

I'm not sure improvement (although that is what such a young team is destined to do) is the key factor here but you can definetly see a difference between a bunting team where all facets of the game are just comical, division 2 quality and butch where unc is competitive almost every game, doesn't get sliced apart every drive/the offense doesn't look totally clueless every drive

not to mention Bunting is the one that left Butch with this team, I'm of the mind JB would not win a game this yr if he was retained

I just want some UNC fans to admit that they got completely hosed. It's pretty much impossible to justify a raise like this before the season is even over.

it was a pre-emptive raise to hopefully keep him from entertaining other offers and its based on what he'll hopefully deliver in the future. based on on the field results, yeah it was excessive, but if he wins then it'll be worth it

i know everyone likes to make fun of the he said she said stuff, and i even hesitate to post this because everyone will think i'm making it up.

one of my superiors talked with paul johnson today (coach at navy) and coach johnson said that davis is already gone to arkansas, it just isn't announced.

i'm not sure if this news circulates among coaches, but it's 100% true and 100% confirmed that paul johnson said that this morning. i was in the room when he said it.

yeah it was a phone call.

the person on the phone with coach johnson is one of his good friends and someone with some pull in the wolfpack club. he was involved in the coaching search when we were looking at johnson and o'brien. he said to me after the call "i hope to god that unc doesn't hire him."

you don't have to believe me if you don't want to, it's still just speculation anyway. i would assume one of the top coaches in the country has a better ear to the ground with what's going on and more information than any of us.

you can check my sports talk history...i'm not a troll and i don't make stupid threads. i'm just reporting what happened this morning at work. and i think we all know that it was between o'brien and johnson for the ncsu job...to assume that folks tied to nc state aren't still in touch with johnson would be fairly ignorant.

Yep.

I think we could gain ground on recruiting, at least temporarily, until he were to get settled in...but PJ has shown himself to be a hell of a coach.

When UNC announces it I will believe but if this is true I think that Paul Johnson is going to give TOB, Grobe, and Holtz a lot of problems with the offense that he runs.
