So I just watched a few of the #1 Regional ghosts via the Mario Kart Channel. HOLY SHIT, there are some sweet shortcuts I would've never guessed. Toad's Factory, Moo Moo Meadows and DK Summit have some definitely worth checking out. (Youtube probably has them too).

All these players used Funky Kong with the Flame Runner, so I guess that's the fastest driver/vehicle combo. Before anyone asks here's how to unlock Funky:

man this game is fun and all but the AI on mirror mode is fucking ridiculous. On top of having comeback AI, they are WAY too good with items. On Bowser's Castle, I was lightning into lava once and then POW'd into lava TWICE. I would say they are coincidences, but that shit happens way too often to be mere coincidence.

you just make a quick motion with the wiimote (or i think up on the d-pad for gc controls) right before it goes off. you'll still spin once but you won't lose near as much speed.

i would be around 7000 VR now, but i let some noobs play under my license the other day because i didn't feel like logging out and logging back in with another license. but i didn't think they would do thaaat bad. doh! they took away about 1000 points before i decided that was enough lol.

I do know the trick to "dodging" the POW block (just the one spin and slight loss of speed) but the problem is that doing the dodge makes me lose control for a split second and the time I was referring to I was RIGHT at the lava pit and my momentum from the dodge would carry me over the edge. I shit you not, that happened THREE TIMES in one race. Gotta love Bowser's Castle.

I shouldn't forget all the other times I was conveniently blue shelled right over a pit only to fall into last place and lose my chance at 3 stars . I'm ALMOST there though. I have to do Mirror with the Banana, Leaf, and Flower cups. Star Cup is a BITCH to get 3 stars on. Special, surprisingly, isn't that bad.

I unlocked Funky Kong last week, but haven't tried playing with him yet. For now I've been using Dry Bones with the Magikruiser. That bike's handling is impressive, but the top speed is kinda low.

I've only got one cup left on Mirror to beat, but I haven't gotten high rankings on every cup. Do you unlock something special by getting 3 stars on every mirror cup?

With the amount of cheap crap the AI throws at you nonstop in 150cc Mirror Mode, I don't see how it is possible to get 3 stars. All I know of is when you play online you'll get 3 stars by your name so everyone will know how badass you are at the game.

I'm not convinced that the AI fucking you with items counts against your driver rating. If a blue shell blasts the fuck out of you and you fall into a pit how's that your fault?

Also, I haven't had many problems with the AI in 150cc Mirror. I usually have a fairly large lead out of their range.

Well if a blue shell hits you on the final lap and you fall into the lava as a result, then you will probably be in last place by the time you are back on the track. In order to get at least 1 star, you have to have first place in all races.

on a related note on the mirror special cup I came in dead last on rainbow road and still won the cup overall

I'm pretty certain that 2 star ratings require 4 wins though.

I don't know if it's been said before, but it looks like you can dodge the blue shell if you have a boost. From what it looks like, you boost right when the shell points down.

Playing DK's jungle river whatever the hell its called I was mostly in a 1v1 race with one guy the whole time (like 8 people were around 20 seconds behind us). I was trying to stay right behind him knowing the inevitable blue shell would take him out. On the last lap right before the bridge I got a mushroom and was gonna use it to boost up the middle of the cave and pass him.. I had used a mini boost to pass him for like half a second and as I did a blue shell locked on to me but I hit my mushroom and avoided it. It was very unintentional and it took me a second to even realize what had happened, but i was pretty proud of myself.

what are most of the people that are 7000 and up using? I am right at 7000 and am using Rosalina and the flame runner...but there are some people online that are just killing it every race and I do not understand how this is possible in this game...I can win 3 in a row or so, but every now and then you are going to get fucked and lose like 200 points a race...I just don't see how they are that high besides playing all the time...like 8500 and above is ridiculous to me.
