yeah that makes sense. since they play the same position, and are in the same recruiting class, and obviously had we offered evans he would have come here

"Hickson NEEDS to go pro, he's been a fucking thorn in our team's side since he got on State's campus..all the fucker has been concerned about is getting his name out to scouts and he could give a fuck about the rest of our squad."

I actually agree with the sentiment. It's great to have talent, but if they are only, and I repeat only, looking out for number 1, then screw 'em.

We changed our whole system around to accomodate Hickson's talents. That's all well in good if he's stated he intends to stick around for 2 years or more. Of course the "throw it to Hickson and let him go to work" gameplan is only good as long as it works. And it worked in I think half a dozen games this year. Against superior talent Hickson would disappear or be a ball hog and try to beat a triple team instead of kicking it back out to his teammates. I could even stand that because I realize there is a learning curve. The only problem is we all knew going in that Hickson probably wasn't going to be around after this season and that any learning he did was going to benefit an NBA team, not us. We should have molded his talents to help the team. Not the other way around.

And even after giving the kid a year to showcase his talent, I still don't think he looked good enough to warrant an NBA team spending a first round pick on him. He's a very raw talent, and at this point, it's anyone's guess if he'll be the next big thing or the next big bust. Hell, at this point, he's not even good enough to be considered a bust, if things don't pan out.

I wish Hickson the best, I just wish he felt the same about State while he was here.

Rivals.com is running a story on the 5 best and worst decisions to go pro this draft

guess who is mentioned first as a BAD decision?

http://collegebasketball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=804790

Quote :
"F J.J. Hickson, N.C. State
Stats: 14.8 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 1.5 bpg
If given the choice, you never want to go into the draft with your stock slipping. That is the case with Hickson, a 6-9 freshman. He got off to an impressive start, averaging 16.5 points per game in November and December. But that dropped to 12.5 in conference play. The Wolfpack's struggles didn't help, either. They lost their last nine games and finished with more losses (16) than wins (15). Hickson is projected as a borderline first-round pick, but if he stays in school and makes some improvements, he will be a first-round lock next year. "

^ I got into it with Dave Glenn on 850 yesterday about that article. Not surprisingly, I agreed with DG on this one...

Hickson's a great talent. At MOST he was planning on staying 2 years. We all knew from day 1 Hickson was looking forward to the NBA. So, if you get one free chance to enter the draft without penalty, why not see where you stand?

Hickson, IMO, should of course stay another year. His consistency needs improvement, as does his overall defense. He's also slipping in the draft order down to the bottom of the 1st round. Another year under a good college coaching staff should get him ready for the pros...

...unless of course Hickson sees no value in staying, which is my biggest fear at this point. If JJ doesn't see the value in playing under Coach Lowe AND is willing to take a poor draft position just to leave, cue up the red flares and annoying buzzers... b/c that's not good news.

This upcoming year is absolutely critical for Lowe and the team in general. Another year of struggling, chemistry problems, and poor recruiting, and Sidney will lose a lot of credibility... possibly too much to bring in the kind of recruits needed to win in the ACC.

It's make or break time. Cue up the prayers and antiacids... it'll be time for Pack bball before you know it

Just have a feeling that he gets drafted late first round, decides to leave, and we never hear from him again in terms of being any sort of real contributer.

Not sure about this, but don't you think it also hurts his draft stock that he doesn't have an agent? Not only is he slipping but then your asking yourself if he is actually going to leave. Not sure if that has been mentioned or not, just jumped into the thread and haven't read it since like page 2.

if he gets drafted he's gone. it's not like the MLB draft where you can opt-out. he has until a certain date before the draft to pull out. after that, he's locked in (and thus no longer ncaa eligible) no matter how late he gets taken.

so no, i doubt it hurts his draft stock w/out an agent. he's not going to be in the lottery so it's not like he needs to negotiate contracts and $$$ deals already.

Got it. I thought he could go all the way through, find out where drafted, and then come back if he didn't like his draft position as long as he never hired an agent.

That makes more sense.

rallydurham is spot on with every bit of that post though......

I am tired of you dumbass kids that ever thought Sid was going to do any better than Herb Sendek. If Lowe isn't fired after this year after we finish 10th-12th in the ACC for the 3rd year in a row, I will possibly riot and punch Lee Fowler in the face. But fuck me for supporting Herb right??? We can get better and you're a pussy for liking Herb.

^^^ This herb dick sucker keeps bringing him up because he thinks that Lowe getting worse somehow makes herb better than he actually was.

All it means is that the Lowe hiring was wrong, not the Herb firing.

JJ predicted to go late in the first round by Chad Ford.

I guessed late first, early second. I still think he goes early second even though its kind of a weak big man draft. Guy could be at least mid-first round if he stayed another year.

Herb was a good chance and he left under his own will, he wouldnt have been fired. Lowe was a risk that has yet to pan out.

Yeah when my 3rd cousin, once removed of course, was at a hunting lodge up in Alaska he was hunting Elk with Lowe and according to him, they weren't able to shoot any Elk because Lowe refused to take his red jacket off and wear camo.

Freshman power forward J.J. Hickson (North Carolina State) was my choice at Denver (20). But the word I'm getting is that "he'll go much earlier than that."

Any guy who actually thinks Robin Lopez will go at number 6 has no credibility whatsoever.

But, I would be very happy to see JJ in Denver at #20, although that didn't work out so well for you-know-who.

i realize that JJ stands to make a lot of money by going in the first round, but i can't see him sticking around the NBA for more than 3 years.. he'll probably have a career similar to Cedric Simmons if he leaves now

http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/news?slug=rivals-221805&prov=rivals&type=lgns

Quote :
"NC State freshman forward J.J. Hickson entered his name into the NBA draft almost immediately after the Pack’s season was over, and he indicated in an interview done with the Phoenix Suns’ Web site that he is not planning to return to NC State.

“I would say that I’m definitely in the draft,” Hickson told the Web site. “I came out just testing the waters, but since I’m hearing a lot of good things about my game I’m not going to pull my name out.”

Hickson has not signed with an agent, but he is being advised by Andy Miller. ESPN’s Andy Katz reported that Hickson would likely sign with Miller once he formally stays in the draft.

Hickson led NC State in scoring and rebounding during his rookie campaign. He averaged 14.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-9, 242-pound Hickson was a McDonald’s All-American and five-star recruit coming out of Wheeler High in Marietta, Ga.

Phoenix is one of four teams that Hickson has worked out with so far. Seattle, Cleveland and Sacramento have also taken a look at Hickson. He is also scheduled to work out for Denver and Philadelphia. Most analysts have Hickson as a mid-to-late first-round draft pick in mock drafts."

good riddance

as a Cavs fan, I sure hope they dont take his ass in the first round

its like someone said last season...he couldnt even outplay Wake Forests sorry ass Center, what makes him think he can hang with the likes of Amare Stoudamire, et. al.?

he is NO WHERE near ready to play in the NBA and will get schooled by every single starting center, power forward, and small forward in the league

but, good luck, enjoy your paycheck and represent State well out there, we'll chalk you up right next to Cedric Simmons and Josh Powell

Nothing I've seem from him makes me thing he'll be nasty in the NBA. I don't even know how you can type that without your brain eating your face. He does have great upside, his is physically a great talent but to type what you typed makes me scratch my head... as people said he wasn't even dominant in college. I hope I am wrong but I think he takes his fat paycheck all the way to the NBADL, Europe, and then we never hear from him again.
