By your own logic that doesn't count because it isn't sustained success in basketball...Ohio State has only been good for a couple of seasons in the past 15 years and Florida really has only been nationally relevant under Donovan6/16/2008 6:40:47 PM |

well, hes been there what, 12 years? and Lon Kruger got them to the final four and he was was there 5-6 years, so thats 18 years of being a pretty good team... you take someone like Louisville or Kentucky and have then be equally good in football for 18 years (BCS games, 2 National Championships) and I think football would be bigger

to get it back on topic and to consolidate a few threads:
oh shit... just added the 40th ranked player in the country to the already 10th ranked recruiting class:
Quote : | "Decision day has come for Emmanuel Negedu. The recruiting process is finally over for the four-star forward from Nigeria.
After committing to Arizona, asking for a release from his Letter of Intent from the Wildcats in late May and narrowing down his list to four finalists – Indiana, Georgia Tech, Memphis and Tennessee, Negedu knows where he'll be going to college in the fall.
"It's Tennessee," said Jason Smith, Negedu's head coach at Brewster Academy (N.H.). "I think it was mainly because he was familiar with them prior to him committing to Arizona. They recruited him pretty hard before. I think he was just familiar with them more.
Negedu went on a 10-day, four-school tour this month and visited each of his finalists. Smith said when the 6-foot-6 forward went on his visit to Tennessee, there was an immediate connection to Bruce Pearl and the Vol program and players.
"I think that is what put them over the top," Smith said. "When he was there on their campus, everyone but maybe Renaldo [Woolridge] was on campus. Emmanuel said he liked their family atmosphere and felt really comfortable there campus and their style. I think he felt like it was really attractive."
Negedu, the No. 40 ranked player in the class of 2008, gives the Volunteers another major addition to the class of 2008. Pearl and company signed the nation's No. 10 overall recruiting class so far. The class includes Scotty Hopson, Renaldo Woolridge, Philip Jurick, Bobby Maze and Daniel West." |
I was worried Memphis would get him with them losing so much this off season6/18/2008 6:52:23 PM |

NH to AZ to TN. Weird. Was it ever released why he backed out of UA? I'm guessing the coaching clusterfuck...but the dude that recruited him left for Memphis...hmmmm 6/18/2008 8:06:12 PM |

Quote : | "Since the signing, Olson extended his leave to the entire season, all three of UA's assistant coaches last season have departed and standout guard Jerryd Bayless left for the NBA draft. Three other UA players remain in doubt for next season, too: Forward Chase Budinger may stay in the NBA draft, guard Nic Wise may transfer, and incoming freshman Brandon Jennings has not yet met NCAA eligibility requirements. Negedu, who is from Nigeria, developed a particularly tight bond with UA assistant coach Josh Pastner, who left last week to take an assistant coaching job at Memphis. But that was not Negedu's only reason to leave, Adams said. "I know that Emmanuel and Josh were close," Adams said. "It was just everything (at Arizona), really. Looks like it's still going on to me. Josh was doing what's best for Josh and (Negedu) just wants to do what's best for Emmanuel."" |

It's too early in the year for me to look at rosters/playing time for freshman, but I did find it weird he didn't bolt to Memphis. Guessing he may have felt like he was betrayed by Pastner leaving and now he's spurning him. 6/18/2008 8:19:22 PM |

I think it's funny when you look at the whole arguement on pages 5 and 6 and you take a look at NCSU and we totally bomb that arguement. NCSU is most obviously a basketball school and yet since 1998 our football attendance % is way higher than basketball attendance % and yet during that same time we did better in basketball finishing higher in polls and the ACC just about every year. 6/19/2008 12:49:59 AM |

Beale Street isn't even that cool. It feels too touristy to really want to do much there. There is some good food and music you can find, but it still doesn't feel like much more than pointless tourist destination. Quote : | "NC State's Sidney Lowe: 'It's Going to be My Way and That's It!' This is how screwed up the ACC has been: only one underclassman entered the 2009 NBA Draft and he played for the league's last place team.
That would be NC State's J.J. Hickson, who some feel brought down the program last year. Oh, he was a heck of a player ... but the team's chemistry (which was so high at the end of 2006-2007) was just missing.
So NCSU's head coach, Sidney Lowe, picks now to lay down the law:
"It's going to be my way and that's it," Lowe said. "It's real simple. They're the players and I'm the coach and they're going to do it my way. And if they don't. They're not going to want to be here."
"In my dictionary, chemistry only means one thing and I'm going to stay away from that," Lowe said, then later offered his definition. "It's just players not accepting and players being selfish."
There were some cryptic signs that Lowe doesn't mind Hickson leaving ... though he tried to duck answering any direct questions. But he did find time to blame media attention, parents, girlfriends and AAU guys as clutter around the players' psyches.
I like Sidney Lowe and I think he's a good coach. But Raleigh is a very fickle place when it comes to their coaches and Lowe just struck out with his first NBA-talented player and his ability to incorporate him into his team. His upcoming season will see a lot of juniors and seniors in his rotation ... and hopefully he can recapture the magic of February/March 2007." |

Smith turned down a basketball scholarship to UNC Asheville after winning an academic scholarship to attend N.C. State, where he plans to walk on to the basketball team, according to Lee Reavis, his high-school coach." |
Kendall Smith is a 6-8 PF. I think most of the walk-ons are invited walk-ons. I know Clayton Beard is one. Maybe Smith can get some quality backup minutes as a senior like Nieman did. Sounds like a decent player that will be good for our bigs to go up against in practice.6/21/2008 4:31:43 PM |

Which teams do you want to see absolutely fail? I'd like to see both VT and WF fail. WF b/c everyone is sucking them off and how great they'll be next year b/c of the incoming recruits (also they are a Tobacco Road school). VT b/c of how pompous their fans usually are and now they think they have a rivalry with Duke. 6/22/2008 1:21:52 PM |

Katz is seriously on crack if he thinks Miami will be the 8th best team in the country next year. They won't be better than Duke and UNC. They will probably be top 5 in the ACC and hover around in the top 25. That should be a good game and ACC vs. SEC matchup.6/23/2008 12:44:54 PM |
