I really really dont like having to go against Chow starting on the 25

Tenn: 32 Rushes, 5.5 per attempt
UCLA: 30 Rushes, 0.9 per attempt

offensive play calling by Tennessee has been stupid, completely had them beat physically but kept throwing the ball over and over and over

Craft played shitty in the first half, played like the fucking man in the second half

isnt that intentional grounding?

right about playcalling

not good to have 41 passes and 33 rushes against a team you have beat physically

Tenn. playcalling has been horrid.

1st down = run
2nd down = pass
3rd down = pass

I am getting more and more worried about this game... everyone is saying that UCLA doesnt have a chance now (much like they did for Bama against Clemson) and its when teams get that "us against the world" mentality that they pull off upsets...
"

34 rushing attempts, 5.5 yards a carry
41 passing attempts, 4.6 yards an attempt

fucking horrible horrible coaching

thing is Crompton wasn't the problem. it was the most predictable playcalling I've ever seen. Crompton played about as well could be expected from the plays that were called. it must have been a dream to play as UCLAs DC in the second half and OT.

from the Tennessee Rivals board:

Quote :
"New O.C... Reply
...same ol' crap. 1) Our line can't block anyone 2) We continue to abandon the run 3) We play Austin Rogers while Hancock, Briscoe, and Moore are setting on the sideline in big situations 4) Our defensive backs play 10 yards off of the wr on 3rd down 5) We are not physical on offense 6) Fulmer proves once again he can't match wits with the games best"

Quote :
"As they should. Chow made adjustments and ate us up.... Reply
We were poorly prepared, Foster picked another great time to fumble, Clawson is in way over his head, Crompton has no touch on his passes, ST's still suck....any more?

A back up QB and no hope will beat us everytime it seems.

Sad, sad, sad damn day."

they maybe blitzed 3-4 times a game, rest of the time rushed 4 and sat back in really loose coverage. Tennessee is great at making stars out of backups... this game, LSU SEC Champ. Game in 01

you dont understand... Tennessee has been known for not adjusting, ever. Fulmer basically feels like "I have better athletes, even if they know what we are doing, they cant stop it". It has been annoying as shit for ever and ever. Well, when Clawson was named OC, his WHOOOOOLE thing was that he was all about mismatches and adjusting and what do they do in this game when we were running it down their throats? kept with their weird ass plan of throwing on 2nd and 3rd and short and having to punt. So frustrating.

from an Arkansas Fan:

Quote :
"Your Coordinators... Reply
Both offensive and defensive, both got went from what was working....

On O, your off-tackle run game was unstoppable, and instead the OC wanted Crompton to make plays in the second-half...

On D, your cover-2 blitz scheme was great, and then you went cover 3, and stopped blitzing...

Tough one..."

And on Rivals, users from all these other schools are coming in and saying the same thing "damn, tough loss... why didnt you guys just keep running the ball? they were totally gassed on defense, you could have put the game away early in the 3rd quarter". They arent even talking shit or rubbing it in, they are so fucking bewildered and confused

I dont even want to think about how much Florida is going to kick our ass

Argh! I hate that loss. I wanted UT to be undefeated for the game with us, plus I bet on UT (damn). We were all yelling at the tv throughout the game..."Why the fuck are you throwing the ball!" Oh well...weird game

Haha, oh God I hope that's not the case, but you never know. I'm excited I get to be at the Swamp this Saturday! But to answer your question, it would have made the game mean that much more IF we go up to Knoxville and win.

reading the comments from the coaches they are pretty much blaming the loss on "missed opportunities", especially when Foster fumbled near the goal line at the end of that 80 yard drive... that obviously hurt (as did the safety no call) but if we had just ran the ball none of that would have mattered... we basically played right away from their weaknesses and right into their strengths.. grrr

"I completely understand that UCLA's safeties were close to the line of scrimmage and I understand the importance of trying to stretch the field, but for his first start in this offense, I thought the coaching staff asked Crompton to do too much. Too many skilled throws down the field under a lot of duress. That is not a blanket excuse for Crompton, who has to play much better if this team is going to be successful this fall, but I thought they asked him to do too much in his first game. On the four carries before Foster's fumble, the senior had 83 yards. After that fumble, Tennessee went three and out three times and in those 9 plays, the tailbacks touched it twice. Clawson got away from the run in the third quarter and put too much on his young quarterback."

Orange school coaches that are likely to be done after this year:

1) Tommy Bowden

2) Phil Fulmer

3) Al Groh (they have a little orange right?)

4) Greg Robinson (This cat should have already been fired)

^^no, probably not... too many excuses that can be used for that game to get his dumbass off the hook: new OC, new QB, long trip, random blocked kick, no call on the safety, fumble by Foster etc. And I think Groh and Ferentz will be gone LONG before him.

^ Fulmer should be gone but he wont barring a complete collapse

CFN is taking the game a lot better than I am haha:

Quote :
" The defense picked the wrong time to start struggling. After dominating UCLA for roughly 53 minutes, the pass rush was a half-step too slow to get to Kevin Craft, and the coaching of Bruin offensive coordinator Norm Chow beat the Tennessee coaching staff. The game could've gone either way and there's no reason to get hung up on the loss. If anything, the play of QB Jonathan Crompton to get the team in a position to force overtime at the end was a major breakthrough. The running game will be tremendous all season long if Arian Foster and Montario Hardesty run like they did against the Bruins."

Although it of course had a bearing on the final score, that safety wouldn't have been bad for UCLA at that point in the game. Go down 6 and kickoff, or get stopped at the three and have to punt.

Also, I watched parts of the game again this morning. After the third INT Pretty Ricky grabbed Craft and said "That's three! Stop it!" After the fourth was caught, he screamed "FUCK ME." Fulmer had an awesome temper tantrum after the final TD. After Lincoln missed his FG in OT, Rick ran onto the field, a cop chased him and tripped/fell on his face.

"View from a Gator
Hey Vols,

I come and check this site out every once and a while, but I figured I would toss a Gator's views out there for you...

1. I'm sure I would have been tied up in knots if I was a Bruin fan or Vol fan last night, but for everyone else, that game was great! Lots of drama, hard hits, momentum swings, etc etc.

2. If you don't want Foster, trade him to us. That dude is big, fast and looks to have a mean streak. He reminds me of Marion Barber. His fumble didn't come at a great time, but, holy jeez, could the coaching staff run at least one screen? They were bringing the house in the 4th quarter and one friggin' screen would have broke for 20-40 yards.

3. Eric Berry is a beast.

4. Crompton is schizo. I just get done telling my wife that I've got no fear of Neyland this year, and the dude throws two NFL passes in a row. Then I get nervous again and he throws two over receivers' heads that are wide open. I wonder which dude shows for the Fla. game.

5. I hate games decided by kicking.

6. UCLA is going to be good. In fact, I hope that they become great. I'd love to see USC challenged by anyone out there. I give Tenn. credit for going out there for a season opener.

7. Something is terribly wrong with the playcalling. There are athletes in orange that aren't being given the ball in space. As an aside, on the the fourth and one, I would thrown it. Crompton did a great job with the second effort, but I think, with Tenn's O-line, they shoulda faked the sneak and tossed a quick out to the right...wide ass open.

8. Once again, Foster is a beast. It would please me to no end to see your coaching staff lose confidence in him by the UF game. I would love to see his touches limited against us. Spread the word...please?

9. Did I mention that Eric Berry scares the hell out of me?

10. Lookin' forward to the game. I hope both sides stay safe and healthy."
