If you're interested, here is a podcast/webcast of Fresh Air where they interview an associate professor of social medicine and health policy and administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (yeah, yeah, I know) in which he talks about the plusses and minuses of both candidates healthcare plans.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=93975730

Also, here is a link to a discussion on the same show about Lobbyists in both campaigns after both campaigns said they would not allow lobbyists on thier staffs.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=94017029

each one is about an hour in length.

Palin is in the middle of a major scandal. She has very little experience. And that is relevant this go around because of McCain's advanced age. It also undermine's McCain's criticism of Obama's inexperience. She is only going to make McCain even OLDER and out of touch by comparison. She is also anti-choice and creationist. That's going to make her a tough sell with moderates and put out Hillary-crats.

She is just a rotten choice.

OBAMA MAKES BIDEN LOOK LIKE AN OLD FOGEY!!1

lets see

if you want to say the VP nominee's experience relates to the P nominee's experience, then i think this too should be relevant

Obama 4 years older than Palin
McCain 6 years older than Biden

the tickets' combined age has a 2 year difference

OMG STOP THE PRESSES THIS SHIT IS WILD

OLD, EXPERIENCE, OLD, EXPERIENCE, OLD, EXPERIENCE

Quote :
"Sarah Palin is no stranger to the "maverick" label often assigned to Sen. John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate who has selected her to join him on the GOP ticket. Alaska's youngest and first female governor has pushed for ethics investigations of fellow Republicans in her state and bucked the powerful oil industry on a major natural gas pipeline project.

When she ran for governor in 2006, she ran as an outsider and an agent for change.(Female-version-of-Obama says "what?") But she's also an anti-abortion, pro-gun fiscal conservative — something sure to please the Republican base.

Rooted In Local Politics

The 44-year-old Palin is a fresh face on the national political scene. But she has participated in local and state politics for much of her adult life. She was elected to the Wasilla City Council in 1992, running against tax increases in the Anchorage suburb. Four years later, she was elected mayor of the city, which has grown rapidly although its population is still under 10,000. Palin held the mayor's job until 2002 and in 2003 was named chairwoman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.

Palin was elected governor three years later despite her outcast status in the Republican Party. Her campaign theme was a defiant one — "Take a Stand." She won a three-way primary race against incumbent Gov. Frank Murkowski and former state Sen. John Binkley, then went on to defeat former Democratic Gov. Tony Knowles.

As governor, Palin says she's tried to instill public confidence in the government of a state that's been shaken by political scandals. She won't invite lobbyists to her office and has introduced ethics reform legislation. One of her first acts as governor was to kill the now infamous "bridge to nowhere" pork-barrel spending project. And she put the former governor's personal jet up for sale on eBay.

An Outsider's 'Fresh' Start

In an interview with NPR soon after taking office as governor, Palin said her outsider status had pros and cons. "The kind of a disadvantage of being an outsider is you don't know all the players. The advantages are you get to start fresh. You get to start with ideals, and it's worth it."

Palin continues to defy her party. She refused to endorse longtime Republican Congressman Don Young in this year's primary, backing one of his challengers instead. But critics say that Palin is politically naive and more show than substance. In recent weeks she's been dogged by questions over her firing of a state official who refused to dismiss a state trooper involved in a bitter divorce and child custody battle with her sister.(whoops!)

Palin graduated from the University of Idaho in 1987 and worked for two years as a television sports reporter before becoming a co-owner of a commercial fishing operation. She's also owned an outdoor recreational equipment company. Palin was crowned Miss Wasilla in 1984 and also competed in the Miss Alaska pageant. She likes to hunt, ice fish, ride snowmobiles and eat moose burgers.

'Barracuda' On The Basketball Court

Palin also played basketball in school. She was on the Wasilla state championship girls basketball team in 1982. Her nickname on the court was "Sarah Barracuda," for her style of play.

Palin is the mother of five children, including one born earlier this year with Down syndrome. Her oldest son enlisted in the Army last year and is scheduled to be deployed to Iraq next month."

yeah but being mayor or being on the city council isnt the statehouse

obama has more years of experience as a senator than she does as a governor

but her council + mayor + governor years > obama's senator years

I don't know what I think about her experience. She has had a very short term as governor of a state with a relatively small population that is a bit removed from the rest of the US. And she was "the mayor of a town with a smaller population than some apartment buildings in New York," as one of my friends put it. I don't know how much that counts for.

But I do not think that she is going to win any votes for McCain. (Not that I want him to win any votes.)

after reading her bio, I think she should win some votes for him but her as his choice for VP just reeks of pandering to hillary supporters so much so that I don't think people will pay attention to what she has actually done in office.

^^^, my quotes were not supporting her or attacking her. just pointing out interesting things in that article.

if you dont think there are women who will vote for her or who wouldve voted for hillary because they're women, or there are blacks who vote for obama because he's black, or there are whites who vote for mccain because he's white...then you're pretty naive

not to say that everybody is like that by any means...but come on, get a clue

I saw somewhere that she has 12 years of experience in a leading executive position, anyone know what that was?

Also saw someone mention that a governor does more work and decision making in a few years than many senators do in their tenure. I like it. I really like what she's done as governor and think that along with straight-talk no-bullshit McCain they will do wonders for the country and get a defunct Congress to actually take action and make decisions.

Obama will...be the first black president. And hope for change. That's about it, right?

"After moving to the Valley and graduating from Wasilla High, Sarah earned her Journalism degree from the University of Idaho. She worked in media and the utility industry before beginning her public service 14 years ago.

Sarah was elected to two terms on the Wasilla City Council, and then two terms as the Mayor / Manager of Alaska’s fastest growing community. During her tenure as Mayor she reduced property tax levels while increasing services and made Wasilla a business friendly environment drawing in new industry. The responsibility of managing dozens of employees including a growing police department and public works department, and overseeing the multimillion dollar capital and operating budgets provided her with hands-on, 21st Century relevant administrative experience. Sarah’s demonstrated leadership was also recognized when she was elected by her mayoral peers as President of the Alaska Conference of Mayors. In this role, she worked with local, state and federal officials to promote solutions to the needs of Alaska’s communities.

Sarah served as Chairman of Alaska’s Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, which regulates Alaska’s most valuable non-renewable resources: oil and gas. She also served on the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission. Sarah was named one of Alaska’s “Top 40 Under 40?, Alaska’s Public Works “Person of the Year”, and was recently inducted into the Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society at Alaska Pacific University."

I'm guessing she has her 12 years some where in all that.
