I'm currently on MightyROM (11/16 build) on my Touch Pro 2 and I must say, it is damn near perfect! Aside from the lack of the Sense 2.5 updates, it is really a speed / stability beast. Supposedly the new 6.5.3 release (build 28002) is very fast and stable as well. I am certainly fine without a capacitive screen for the time being. Opera Beta 10 is a VERY nice browser! Just keep your phone updated and you'll see improvements guaranteed.

i'm using mightyrom's latest wm6.5 sense 2.1 update from december 9th or something like that. make sure you get htcaddicts cleanRAM set up to clean a level 2 every hour and you will have no problems with the lagginess that has plagued windows phones since all eternity. it keeps my memory usage between 50-60% all the time and keeps the phone snappy.

i've tried all the roms - i'm a flash-a-holic. i don't think 6.5.3 is ready for heavy use yet so all the roms being built on top of it with sense 2.5 which is also not perfected yet are just too unstable to use as an everyday functioning phone where you expect snappy responses to your actions. they're fun to play around with though.

sprite backup has saved me a LOT of time since i am flashing constantly to test out the new ROMs.

i think the nexus one vs. the hd2 will be an interesting decision in the next months. we'll see how that goes when more details come out on the nexus

^ yeah facebook integration is weak for me too - every time i do it, my activesync relationship says it needs to re-sync the whole relationship because of changes made and it loses the facebook connections so i've given up. i tried it out to see how much it was worth to fight for the feature, but it doesn't give you all that much in the end anyways. i didn't think it was worth the hassle, so i'm fine using touch.facebook.com as my primary facebook interface in the browser

i left opera for pocket IE - it doesn't take as long to open and i don't really care much else about mobile browsing. it's mostly text of articles i'm reading at lunch from my pocketwit stream of links. and all the other sites i visit have good mobile versions like google voice or gmail.

and mightyrom seems to be the most stable to me with the most unused RAM and just the right amount of eye candy for me to still have a snappy phone

Is there a way to set the max number of tabs one can have open in opera mobile? I didn't see anything for that in the menus--on my old touch pro it let you have 3 tabs open simultaneously, but on the TP2 I just got, it only allows two. I suppose the version of opera got updated but it seems like a step backwards to only allow two open.

Let me also say hallelujah that they fixed the alarm. I never did find a way to stop the alarm from going off on the TP except to turn the device off and back on--on the new one it cancels properly.

there is - all the new ROMs i've played with have had unlimited number of tabs. i don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing since opera is such a resource hog.

i'd search xda or ppcgeeks for the registry setting

i got my HTC Touch Pro last February...almost a year ago..

it has never had the best battery life in the world, but lately it has really worsened.

if i have a few phone conversations on it or browse a webpage, it is suddenly down to 1 bar. i usually charge it every night but that's b/c it was always low every night. i didn't charge it if it had 3 bars left, but that was rare.

is the battery already going bad? or do i have a defect? less than a year seems like horrible battery life

I'm considering an Eris. I don't really know what other products to compare this to, however, I wish to stick with Verizon. Currently, I can pick up two Eris phones for free with a 2 year contract. I really want a nice touch screen, online access for streaming videos and surfing the web, and nice camera (I take a lot of pics), and reasonable battery life. GPS tracking is a plus, but not necessarily a requirement. I'd like to be able to browse the web on demand, as well as setup either a wifi or router for a laptop so I can have internet on the go. Games/apps are a plus for when I'm bored. Thoughts? I've looked into Blackberries, Samsung Omnia, LG Chocolate TOUCH, and LG enV TOUCH. I liked teh Eris in the way it felt and looked. The Omnia seems to be very similar to the Eris. The LGs didn't really excite me, but I didn't get to play with them as much as the others, so I might need to go back and check them out again. Thoughts? What else should I look into? Is there any one way that I should go? It seems that the HTC platform is really taking off and the Eris is the way to go. The Touch Pro 2 seems to offer too little of and advantage for the extra money.

I've been using the Eris for about 2 months now and overall, I'm really happy with it. It's definitely not the fastest phone in the world (though I'm hoping the 2.1 upgrade coming sometime soon will help with that). I'm coming from a BB Storm (since release) with a few months of playing with some other phones in there as well (Curve, Omnia, & some other WinMo phone that I'm forgetting now). Outside of the Droid, I think the Eris is definitely the best phone on Verizon. WinMo is still just not a good alternative for a smartphone, imo. BB is good once you get used to it but it's definitely a business-oriented phone and lacks a lot of options/features that you get with Android or iPhone (even WinMo for that matter).

-Touchscreen is great though it could be a bit more responsive at times (almost seems to need a weekly power cycle)
-Camera is good for a phone but no flash can have an effect on some people (hasn't been an issue for me though)
-never tried to stream videos but I do know it's possible (not sure on quality though)
-battery life isn't the greatest. I'm waiting for Seidio to release their batteries so that I can upgrade. I am able to get through the day with no charging (6:30 am - midnight) with 2 email accounts (30-40 messages a day through gmail & pop3 set to 15min. checking), about 20-30 minutes of browsing, 10 calls at around 20-30 minutes. I don't do any music/video stuff though so that will impact it. Really, it seems that all the android phones are pretty lackluster in battery life right now.
-you can use pdanet for setting it up as a router (free if no secure sites are needed)
-Android is coming along very well for apps & games so that shouldn't be an issue for you unless there's specifics that you're looking for (LogMeIn for example)

Also, the old Omnia doesn't hold a candle to the Eris. The new Omnia blows it away specs-wise from what I recall but you're stuck with WinMo which is just a deal breaker for me after 4 WinMo phones. Personally, if you're going to get a WinMo phone, it should be a TP2 or Imagio since they both have HTC's TouchFlo interface to lessen WinMo's crappiness.

Oh, and whichever it is, if you own a Windows Mobile device, download Opera Mobile 10 beta2, it beats the hell out of all previous Opera Mobile browsers, even Opera Mini, and depending on your preferences, even beats skyfire.

No one has mentioned the Nexus 1? It's the snapdragon (1Ghz) Google branded HTC phone. They are supposedly announcing it tomorrow.

http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/02/exclusive-google-nexus-one-hands-on-video-and-first-impressio/

Oh and the snapdragon processor was developed here in Raleigh at Qualcomm

probably because nobody uses T-mobile.

seriously people, if you want to make a game changing phone, you have to put it on a network people want. b/c the only people left are those who care about their service and coverage, and refuse to move to iPhone/AT&T... there's no way people are going to switch to T-mobile.

its unlocked but its a gsm phone so your options are limited, and if you want 3g your option is t-mobile

that being said i am a t-mobile customer who will be upgrading to this phone tomorrow.

also, it has been mentioned in the android thread

Have you guys had trouble syncing your google contacts on the MotoDroid/Eris?

My Eris won't sync and it was actually preventing me from logging on to gchat within gmail. I kinda almost want to remove the link between the phone and gmail contacts just because there are soo many erroneous email addresses in there.

Also are any of your apps crashing? I usually have to open gmail twice because it crashes, sometimes this happens with text messages too. I am wondering if I should go ask for a new phone.

what are the must have apps for a Touch Pro 2? I've already installed Google Maps and some bios updates for relaying email, but what else do you recommend?

Should I flash a different ROM onto the phone to unlock it?

imnuts No dotted lines (aesthetic)
Nokia System font (aesthetic)
BG4All_Animated (aesthetic)
iphone style slider icons (aesthetic)
PocketUno (game)
Xtrakt (game)
cleanRAM (essential to keep RAM usage low)
CorePlayer (to watch movies)
GVDialer (to make free calls)
MilkSync (to sync tasks with Remember The Milk)
Palringo (IM/chat)
Arcsoft (MMS fix)
MyStopWatch (simple utility)
PocketTwit (Twitter client)
Pocket RAR
Keyboard Controller (essential for copy/paste functionality using keyboard and other stuff)
SafeInboxExtender (mark all messages as read option added)
ShakeAndSave (screenshots)
Swype (better keyboard for while driving)
Black Square Bubbles (aesthetic)

So my Touch Pro keeps "hard resetting" every time I power cycle the device.

Time to look for an out of contract piece of shit to hold me over until I can get new customer incentives on a snapdragon device.

EnergyROM > MightyROM

wtf happened to No2Chem? If they included 2.5 Sense, wouldn't it indicate a performance increase since the cooks would no longer have to port from a GSM HD2?

mightyrom with 6.5 and 2.1 is the most stable for me. i get huge memory leaks and sluggishness with any of energy's CDMA roms and even mighty's project roms with 6.5.3 or sense 2.5. i hear he's the best for GSM though, which is understandable since mighty uses a CDMA provider and energy uses a GSM provider.

^ true, if they do include 2.5...who knows though...

Silence and Mighty Mike's kitchen/rom was one of the most stable builds I've ever used on my Touch Pro. I just really like NRG's work on 2.5 and 23x as of late and can't wait to try it on the Rhodium.

HTC HD2 now for sale at Radio Shack for TMobile. Stop by and see one if you dare. The screen is an absurd 4.3 inches. I would seriously consider getting one if it comes to Sprint. But without either a physical keyboard or a direction pad, many games become unplayable

Might want to look at the Evo when it drops on Sprint. Pretty much the same specs but is android instead of the shitty windows mobile and can run on Sprint's Wimax 4G. Still no keyboard, dpad or trackball

running the latest mightyROM with the sprint TP2 update - so winmo 6.5 with sense 2.5

this mem usage is after a few hours. when i restart fresh, or if i run cleanRAM level 3, i can get it down to 45-50%.
