"Is there a reason why 17-1 is unavailable on the basic cable line? Mine apparently has disappeared within the last few weeks.

The only HD channels I can get that way are 5-1, 4-1, and...well, shit I think that's it."

17-1 comes and goes for me. It seems to be the weakest QAM signal of all the HD channels. Sometimes I lose it, and have to go back and forth to a different channel and back to 17-1. I've also had to re-auto-tune all my channels a couple times in the past 2 weeks.
Also, believe it or not, i lost 17-1 completely when I extended my coax cable between the wall and the TV. I I put in an additional 3 foot cable with a coupler, and I lost 17-1 completely. Then I took out that shorter cable and went straight into the wall and it came back.

I used to use Over-the-air HD, and 17/NBC was the weakest OTA signal too, and that's why i decided to get Basic Cable to use Clear QAM, and now it turns out the NBC QAM signal is weak too..... wtf?

Was thinking same thing, but trying not to think to hard about stuff like that that they might have just messed up a bit and moved on.

The only thing I was thinking is maybe she moved there, but when they say 3 months they are really talking Sept-November during the school semester, and not counting the month or two before school started. Anyway, I think the jist of it is shes there for a semester of school and leaving.

^^ uhh.... what?
why did you feel the need to post that?

It's a mug ("a POS"?), and several people here already expressed interest in buying one. what the hell is it to you....

^ you apparently don't realize this is more valued to some people as The Office Merchandise, not as a regular coffee mug

acronym for piece of shit, but i can see the allure of owning one. people will be like, "zomg, you watch the office too?" and you can respond, "yeah, and i only had to pay $10.20 instead of the regular $12." and they'll be "o rly?" and you can be like "ya rly."

but then again, i drink from a mug with a farside comic on it, so to each his own

i wasn't saying it's pos because it's of poor quality. i'm sure they're well-made coffee mugs. it's more like a pos that nbc inserted into the episode just so they could hock more merchandise. but where there's demand, someone will supply, and i'm sure they'll sell a ton of these.

Just because they sell them now doesn't mean you have to label it as product placement.

Great episode, just watched it on Hulu... the whole Dwight/Jim roleplaying sales call was hilarious. As was the following crusade against the customer servey conspiracy.

Also, that mini-bluetooth is a great way to include Pam in every episode.

It was a neat way to continue the Jim/Pam story stuff and provided some good laughs, but I seriously hope it won't show up in any more episodes.

from the writer of the latest episode - he addresses (i mean, dodges) my two biggest continuity questions (hint: they don't care)

Quote :
"Q: When Dwight sneaks up on Kelly in her nook there is a camera already placed there to film the action. However, there were already two cameras filming his conversation with Jim before he leapt from his seat to confront her. Did he tell one of the crew to get into position, or was a third cameraman chilling with Kelly at a most convenient time?

Lester: Uh .... I .... yeah, that. (Lester wipes sweat off his brow.)

Q: Could you explain where we are in the timeline? If Pam's program was only three months long, and we know she's still in that same program based on her conversation with Alex in your episode, this episode obviously can't be based in November. But, last week, Pam was at corporate for Halloween, which also should be beyond Pam's three month stay in NYC. Are the writers deliberately making the timeline inscrutable?

Lester: We, uh .... um. Was that my phone? Gotta go!"

seriously? get a life. it's a tv show, stop being so damn concerned with camera positions.

that would have been my answer

Yeah, the only valid question is the second one. I thought it was a summer course, so she should have been done like 3 months ago, but that doesn't fit into the 'create tension in the Jim/Pam relationship' thing that they are going for this season.

This is unimportant news but:

Quote :
"Further proof the U.S. economy is in the crapper: It appears layoffs are looming at Dunder Mifflin.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Office actor-writer B.J. Novak is taking a leave of absence from the show to appear in Quentin Tarantino's latest film, Inglourious Basterds. NBC declined to comment, but a Peacock insider says Novak asked producers for the time off and they obliged.

But exactly how much time off he'll be getting is subject to some debate. According to one insider, Novak will be MIA for "several episodes" but will return later this season. Another source, however, says Novak may be done with The Office for good, at least as a performer. "He may write more episodes," whispers my mole, "but as far as playing Ryan, I think he's ready to move on."

It's unclear how Novak's absence will be explained on screen, but making Ryan a victim of the current recession would be the logical way to go -- particularly if you-know-who returns to Scranton and decides she wants her old receptionist job back (hint, hint).

That raises the question: Would Pam's return to Dunder Mifflin cushion the blow of losing Ryan? And what if Novak is gone for good -- can The Office weather the loss? Comment away! "

As long as he is still on board for a writer, then this isn't that big of a deal.

ryan has a good role on the show. But he hasn't played a large role in the funnyness(yep, i said that) this season, so i don't think losing him will be that big of a deal

i've been saying all the way back since S1 that he does not deserve to be a Title Character. Especially now, he should be removed from the titles, and maybe even replaced by Andy.

I think they all figured out early on that Novak's main talent was in writing, not acting. Not to say he's a bad actor - he's fine. but his character just isn't all that interesting.

actually thought they bailed on Ryan and NY a bit quick. That story line was actually bringing some funny especially when he went to visit Scranton.

Show goes on fine without him, although losing him as a writer would stink. I'm not sure what he has exactly written as far as episodes, but its been funny so far so he had to have some hand in it.

Paul Lieberstein (Toby) and Mindy Kaling (Kelly) are "co-executive producers" too, but they didn't get title roles, even though at times, both of them had bigger parts than Ryan.

tonight's episode shows that they should go back to the S1-2 basics:
1) cut it out with the mushy relationship bullshit
2) cut it out with all these huge, ridiculous plotlines that take half of the characters out of the office for the whole show

^ yeah, and 3) more Andy (even though he's a recent addition)

I don't know, I thought it was a pretty funny episode. My two favorite lines:

"A concierge is the Canadian equivalent of... a geisha"

"She put us back at first base."
"What exactly is first base with Angela?"
"I get to kiss her forehead."
