Showing you the car was literally my pleasure. I had been too busy the last two days, and hadn't even driven the car, I need to drive it more often to get my fix. You didn't seem impressed with it either, maybe I've been drinking too much Porsche coolaid?

Update: The seats/rails/sliders, uprights, etc. shipping weight with about 11lbs of packaging came to 64lbs, they're very light. I haven't weighed the stock seats, but might. If NJ Motorsports park has scales, I'll weigh the car in 3 days. Anyway, guessing this pulled somewhere between 60-80lbs more weight out of the car. Perhaps around 2850-2900lbs wet w/a half tank of gas. The difference weight seems to be making is the driving force behind trying to get rid of another 30lbs in the form of a lightweight battery, obviously. Back when it was stock, a full tank of gas didn't make much of a difference in driving, now it seems like I can notice the tool kit or spare in the trunk (!)...

The car's -almost- done, w/the possibility of a more baffled oil pan and a lightweight battery. It is pure bliss on wheels, I literally cannot believe how good it feels to drive.

Shocking news: There may be somebody interested at my asking price, and I might have to face the music about that GT3! I'm nervous, as I like this car a lot, and that's just so much more money to have in a car. Alas, the job thing may be working out in DC -if I can milk them for a bit more money I think I'll take that too...

Anyway, here's a picture of the brakes:

Are you kidding? I was totally psyched out (in a great way). Sorry I didn't scream out in excitement like a school boy on prom night, I tried to keep the star struck factor to a minimum . It was honestly exactly what I was hoping it'd be. I do have high standards when it comes to things and am often just satisfied, if not slightly disappointed. Your 996 definitely and consistently kept me grinning and chuckling, so yeah, kudos to you It totally surpassed anything I've been in previously (I believe the 2006 Viper just got bumped to 2nd place with 3rd now a 2007 Lotus Elise w/sport package). I really had a blast and would LOVE to ride in it again and again and again. Until I either a)get my own 996 or b)fix the 944 (I know you want me to ditch the money pit ), I'm very happy with getting my fix riding shotgun. Best wishes on any opportunities that come your way Ahmet (both cars and careers). Anytime you feel like preaching/teaching, let me know. I'm always happy to learn something from ya.

It comes down to $$$. All told, after all parts/trades, I'd be making close to $10k with this deal, -which is not $24.5k btw (that was w/out roll bar/harnesses/brakes and so on). If I had made more than a few grand on the C5, maybe I wouldn't feel so obligated.

Speaking of, clarification and several corrections after reading over this entire tread;

I did not pay more than $2500 for any set of seats, I did not pay $2k for any set of tires. Current Azenis were roughly ~$800, seats ~1200 and I've had several free sets, though not all. The drop links are listed for over $1200, but mine came w/part of another set of GT3 suspension, which after several sets of trades cost me well under a grand all told, when including selling the suspension the car did come with. I made several hundred dollars on the exhaust going back to new factory stock -that actually took the most work in locating/trading, etc. Anyway, this suspension is NOT corner balanced, I bought the set of coil overs from a C2 that was corner balanced and set up like mine, so it probably isn't far off. I did plunk down a lot for brakes though, but that was one I couldn't put off, avoid or trade. Oh, the chain tensioner also ended up being a sub $300 repair when all said and done since I was able to get just the solenoid and replace it separately, though it did tie up a friend's lift for 2 days. That by itself would've been a $3k+ had I been paying someone. Anyway, that's all I see that was inaccurate/wrong so far.

PS: I miss having an e36 m3 sedan, would love a supercharged one with more tire also.

Hey I wish I had an e36 M3 whenever it rains! It was/they are great cars. You can drive them like an idiot and nobody notices, no stigma, and the car's/parts are significantly cheaper. They're pretty tough also, currently a great sporty car purchase.

All this talk from Dan about wheel to wheel was me thinking also, I don't know what I want, surprise surprise.

Anyway, the last guy looking at the 911 backed out so I don't have to decide anything at this point...

So I finally had the chance to take the 911 to New Jersey Motorsports Park. I was there for 3 days, 1 with VW/R32 as a paid instructor, and the remaining two as a normally compensated instructor, part of a regular HPDE event.

The car was a lot of fun, though most of the event took place in the rain. It was quite the learning experience having the car slightly pitched sideways or otherwise on the verge of or actually hydroplaning. It felt quite good overall, if a bit twitchy. I've got a bit of wear on the inside of the right front tire, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Also a lot of wear in the middle of the rear tires (running 36psi front 38psi rear hot, which are typical for a 996). Anyway, I'm trying to embed some highlights from the steering corrections. The car is doing between 55 to 85 as it necessitated input, however clip end speeds are roughly 15mph over that. The video doesn't capture it well, but in quite a few spots it was drifting with a 5 degree or so angle from the apex on out, until a shift. I usually didn't back off the throttle much if at all during counter steering most of the time. These are the easier to see highlights from a 10 minute segment in one session...

Anyway, I had a guy that seemed seriously interested in the car supposed to be checking it out tomorrow. If he buys it, I intend to get rid of the car, and follow through with a GT3. Otherwise I'm thinking about either a more hardcore track/race car, or putting some more safety gear on this thing and at least doing time trials with it.

you should definitely put up more videos Very clean lines, very good wheel control! The damn rain / wind was so loud I couldn't hear the car (throttle) all! Might be worth putting the money in for a real track video setup.

got to ride around in the 996 yesterday. Leaps and bounds better than the last car Ahmet took me for a spin in *cough* corvette *cough*

The seats + harness are awesome. Yes I did strap myself in for the fun of it. I didn't even move an inch in any direction no matter how hard ahmet was driving.

Uploading another video, showing a couple of complete laps this time, if any of you are interested.

So, I'm thinking to myself, I really enjoy this car quite a bit, and it seems special with it's handling and braking abilities...

On the other hand this car is "just" a 996 chassis 911, with "a set of coil overs", a couple ducts, some weight taken out and that's really about it. I am battling my GT3 kick again. It'd be an only car, parked in front of my condo, drive it on broken pavement, take it on long drives across country, etc... Seems unwise, and just generally inappropriate. I may be moving soon, don't even have a garage. Bleh.

I don't know, looking at lap times, it seems pretty solid. I'm running mid to low 1:40s, and I've seen a video of a 996 running without either chicane (I was running both) lap at around 1:41. While I'm at it, current seats/harnesses/roll bar;

So, I'm going to be showing the car this weekend to someone. Still thinking about the move to whatever I may get next. Inconvenient right now, as the consumables are pretty fresh, and I've got several track events coming up again.

BTW, this week seems like a decent time to buy more stocks IMO.

Oh yes...

but... my car's performing beautifully and... I intend to put it on track for 3 more days just this week, a total of 5 more days planned through the next month. Shouldn't I keep it, I mean, it's so cute now...

Ha, that's how they're driven generally here, on the other hand some of my friends pick on me for reinforcing the "douchebag in the Porsche" thing from how not granny like I drive mine...

Anyway, I'm in Agawam right now, but plan to go to Springfield for wall climbing today or tomorrow, and there's some state park to the west to go biking that I've been going to. Will be in the area for a few more days before I head to New Jersey Motorsports Park then back down to Raleigh. I was up closer to you a couple of days ago, didn't know you were there though If you have any plans of coming down here before Friday, let me know. xoxo

That guy did not end up buying the car, he is looking for one with the aerokit, and one with better paint. I find that amazing, that someone would want a cleaner car than mine for tracking (paint wise). He showed up in an e36 that I'd consider show quality. To each his own I guess... DC thing is taking forever, they're talking up to another 8-10 months, blah.

In other news, I just got completely out of CAT today. That makes %44 gain in 3 days short of 5 months. It was up almost 8% today, crazy I say. Anyway, earnings is tomorrow, I'll be busy -probably kicking myself for not staying in. :/

I haven't really posted this on Rennlist, I don't think most there care too much about track stuff... :'(

Opinions on how to drive are obviously plentiful. Some say I'm over driving, some say I'm not pushing hard enough. Good way to find out would be doing more time trials I guess. I wanna go racin' yeeehaw!
