"Hurricanes move?
Quick, name the player who tied for fifth among NHL defensemen in goals last season at 16. That would be Anton Babchuk. The 25-year-old is a restricted free agent, but he's nowhere close to agreeing on a new deal with the Carolina Hurricanes. In fact, he may get dealt because of the stalemate.

"I told his agent that if he finds a team that is interested enough that I'd be willing to move him," Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford told ESPN.com on Wednesday.

There is also the possibility of an offer sheet.

"I don't know, that's certainly within the CBA, and they're certainly within their rights to do that," Rutherford added.

Babchuk doesn't qualify for salary arbitration, so he's limited a bit in his options. "

Any clue who the "veteran defenseman" we are interested in acquiring could be? With Ruutu on the verge of arbitration, I could see a trade scenario to acquire one in the realm of possibilities. Surely we could send off Eaves (who I'd assume is the most likely candidate to be shipped off and actually get anything halfway valuable in return) and pick up a marginally solid d-man.

not at all. If he were signed for closer to 2 mil per, I'd probably be happy about it.

We signed another guy for Albany. Jay Harrison.

Has played in 20 career NHL games with Toronto.

Not thrilled about the $3mill, but not terrible disappointed. Hopefully Cole comes out with a chip on his shoulder next season after vanishing in the playoffs.

Now if resigning Cole meant letting LaRose walk, I would have been livid.

We are negotiating with Seidenberg again, and may buy out Kaberle.

Not really. If we buy out Kaberle and trade Babchuk, that opens up some money, plus there's the fact that Seidenberg and his agent have had the unfortunate experience of finding out they were worth way less on the market than they had expected.

Where you guys at?

We have signed TOM KOSTOPOULOS. 3 years, $916,000. Pretty good signing; some grit. This almost certainly signifies that we are packaging Babchuk with a forward (Eaves?) for someone in a trade.

From wikipedia:

"Kostopoulos's nickname during his tenure for the London Knights was "Tommy Non-stopoulos" due to his extraordinary on-ice work ethic."

Take that as you will as this is wikipedia, but i'm okay with a guy like this on the team. Good price too.

Kostopolous on the deal/team:

Quote :
""Carolina has the best goaltender in the league (Cam Ward) and a fun team," he said. "

Quote :
""I think I'm a hard worker," he said. "I try to work hard every day and never take a day off. The Hurricanes have always been a hard-working team, so I think that should work out well.

"There's nothing flashy about my game. I just work hard and play a physical game." "

Quote :
""Everything I've heard about the organization is that it's a great organization that treats its players very well," the veteran forward said this morning. "I understand it's a beautiful place to live, where everyone is so friendly and the fans are great. "

And from HF from a Habs fan:

In Game #4 of the playoffs last year, on the brink of elimination, he wrote the word "BELIEVE" on his stick. The guy has more heart and soul than every other player on the Habs last year - combined.

Not a big fan of mid afternoon Sunday games anytime of the season, but seven in a row during NFL season sucked (especially since they played like shit during that span). They didn't draw that great either so hopefully they won't get a bunch of them this year.

RALEIGH, NC—The National Hockey League today released the 2009-10 regular-season schedules for its 30 member clubs. The Carolina Hurricanes’ 82-game regular-season campaign will begin on Friday, Oct. 2, at the RBC Center against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Following the opener, the Hurricanes will pay a visit to their 2009 Eastern Conference Semifinal opponents, the Boston Bruins, on Oct. 3 at the TD Banknorth Garden in the first of seven October road games. The Hurricanes’ five-game home schedule in October includes an Oct. 15 meeting against the 2009 Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins, and visits from Southeast Division rivals Tampa Bay and Florida.

The Hurricanes begin the season’s second month with a 1:30 p.m. matinee at the RBC Center on Sunday, Nov. 1, against the San Jose Sharks. Carolina’s nine-game home schedule in November is highlighted by two games against the Toronto Maple Leafs, visits from Western Conference foes Los Angeles and Minnesota, as well as division rivals Atlanta, Tampa Bay and Washington.

The team’s December schedule begins on Saturday, Dec. 5, when the Vancouver Canucks will visit Raleigh for the first time in more than two years. The Hurricanes then will embark on a four-game road trip to Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Washington and Ottawa, before returning to Raleigh to play six of their final eight December games at the RBC Center. The Hurricanes will host their traditional New Year’s Eve game on Dec. 31, this year against the New York Rangers in the front half of a home-and-home set between the clubs.

Carolina will play seven home games in January, including a Martin Luther King Day game against Tampa Bay on Jan. 18, and a visit from 2009 Western Conference runners up, the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Hurricanes will go on the road for four games to start the month of February, traveling to Edmonton, Calgary, Buffalo and Long Island. Carolina’s final three games before the NHL’s two-week break for the Winter Olympic Games will bring Florida, Buffalo and New Jersey to the RBC Center.

Carolina’s busiest month will come in March when it plays 16 games in 30 days from March 2 to March 31, including a four-game home stand against Pittsburgh, Phoenix, Boston and Washington. The Hurricanes finish March and welcome April with back-to-back road games at Montreal on March 31 and at Ottawa on April 1. Carolina’s final home game will take place on April 8 against the Canadiens, and the Hurricanes will wrap up the 2009-10 campaign on April 10 at Boston.

In all, the Hurricanes will play 16 sets of back-to-back games during the 2009-10 regular season, all of which involve travel. Of Carolina’s 41 games at the RBC Center, 21 will take place on Fridays (6), Saturdays (10) and Sundays (5),

the same rule that almost prevented CAR @ FLA this last march from being seen on TV when it was pivotal to the playoff race was yet again not avoided in this years fucking schedule either.

On Monday's after the new year, Versus has the right to be the only hockey broadcast on in the USA while their game is on. This is why we couldn't see that CAR/FLA game on local TV this last March.

Monday March 29th:
BUF @ BOS 7:00pm
CAR @ ATL 7:00pm
NSH @ FLA 7:30pm

Let's guess which game will be on Versus.....

meaning that once a-fucking-gain with 6 games left in the season we won't be able to see what could very easily be a crucial road game, anywhere. Same thing for NSH fans.

How the FUCK does this happen AGAIN?

ALBERTS 41
KOSTOPOLOUS... 29?

I am pumped to have Alberts, especially if he is a bottom pairing guy. Would like to see that #4 spot go to a true #4 kind of guy.

And you have to think that we have something in the works now, no way we keep an extra 1.7 or 2.2 million in the press box every night
