conor casey just came on or whatever and isnt showing any kind of hussle...the backs are pushed all the way up for brazil and are easily passing it around while casey just walks around watching them not applying any pressure

you can tell how much better these other teams are at us and not really by skill, but by them knowing what they want to do a split second before we know...thats how much an advantage that is with coaching. these players know when to play the ball and where to play it and it is a huge tactical advantage

so if this were to end up 3-0, i just looked up our results since that disaster at el salvador.

weve given up 12 goals in 6 games....awful.

half these players have hardly played. sadly an MLS american all star team could prob play better than this group of players right now

yep, which is why the "Adu/Torres can't play defense" excuse is so stupid. How much worse could they be?

we might as well put him in, all these other mids suck, but bradley continues to play them no matter how bad they do. who cares if he hasnt played much for his club team, practicing with a french ligue one team is probably better than starting for an mls team anyways.

and freddy wanted to say this about his defending - " why do people think i cant defend? thats one of the areas ive improved the most.We talking bout 14yr old freddy or 20yr old freddy???" - freddyadu11 on twitter

dude... Dooley was a great US nats player, although he was more of a def. mid and less of a playmaker. He definitely did not suck though

we've got players who play enough/are good enough skillwise, they are just coached wrong. we lack the correct tactical coaching to be great. we need better coaches in america than these average college coaches and mls coaches.."

Our coaching isn't that great, but skillwise we aren't that great either. If we were, then we wouldn't get beaten so badly by skilled teams. These tournaments are a lot like the NCAA basketball tournament when you have a 15 seed hang with a 2 seed for 30 minutes. In the end the low seed loses. You see the same thing with teams like Iraq and USA when they hang with some of the better teams in the world, but as the clock continues to tick the talent takes over and the better team wins. Brazil has scored 7 goals in two games now. That says a lot. I know Egypt played good, but they still managed to give up 4 goals vs Brazil. We did beat Brazil 1-0 in 1998 when Keller had something like 12 saves and some of them were amazing. I have never seen a goalkeeper play that good ever since, at any level. It took a ton of luck to win that game too.

id like to think we arent a 15 seed but more like a 4 seed...

we have good enough players, we have awful coaching, if you cant see that then you have no idea how coaching works...

^My point is we could do better, but at the same time it takes a lot of luck, and talent to beat teams like Brazil. Don't fool yourself, they have more talent than us.

Our coaching isn't that good, but a 4 seed? lol! Pretty much every team in Europe that will qualify is probably better than us. Then Africa always seems to give us problems too. So does Brazil and Argentina. If you split the 32 World Cup teams in 2010 into two regions of 16 teams and made them play a single elimination tournament then there is no way we are the 4 seed. There are at least 8 teams in the world that are better than us.

As for the talent argument, Tim Howard was bought by Manchester United, so that shows that the top clubs in the world do scout MLS. Outside of him we have never had any player become the super star of a teams like Manchester United, Barcelona, AC Milan, etc. Kenny Cooper was in the Manchester United Youth system when he was younger, but he is now playing in MLS. If he was so great then he would probably be starting for United. Toni came off the bench for Italy and he scored 14 goals for Bayern Munich this past season. That says a lot about the talent gap. If we had a great coach we could maybe do better, but I would still expect losses vs Italy and Brazil about 9 times out of 10.

well when using your argument, a 4 seed means we are in the top 16 in the world (we are currently ranked 13 or 14)....

onyewu was looked at by man utd i think for a little bit at one point if i remember right
bocanegra played for fulham in the epl
dempsey is one fulhams leading goal scorers and prob most gifted player we have footskills-wise
spector played for man utd and is still in the epl with west ham
landon obv played in Germany for a bit
jozy and davies play in europe
a lot of our midfield play in europe

most of our full national team play in europe, which shows we have the talent to compete with and on other european teams. and they are getting over there on talent alone. they arent starting over there because they lack the tactical knowledge all the other players around them already have... thats why many of our european players havent really been getting playing time, save for a few.

im carl facing more and more at some of your comments

its not the players, we don't have a cohesive unit at all. Our coaching has been shitty for a long time now, and that is definitely the main problem with our team. Bruce Arenas sucked and Bradley is showing that he's just as incompetent.

ive mentioned before and not sure if people read it, but bradley did a lot of assistant coaching under arena so he deploys a very similar coaching tactic....

and it pisses me off since we fired arena to get a fresh, new approach when all they fucking did was hire the exact same guy to replace arena..

^^^^It's not acceptable, but how often does Brazil lose? Not often besides when they play on the road in qualifying.

World Cup 1990 (Lost in second round)
Brazil 3-1-0

World Cup 1994 (Champion)
Brazil 5-0-2

World Cup 1998 (second)
Brazil 4-2-1

World Cup 2002 (Champion)
Brazil 7-0-0

World Cup 2006 (lost in quarterfinals to runner up)
Brazil 4-1-0

They have a combined World Cup record of 23-4-3 since I started following soccer in 1990. They have also won 8 Copa America titles (4 out of the last 5), and 2 out of the 5 Confederations Cup titles. I'm pissed too at the way we played, but the best teams in the world don't even beat Brazil that often. Complain all you want, but when it comes to talent we are just outclassed. Beating them 1-0 in the 1998 Gold Cup was an amazing feat and one of the few times they have lost in any tournament over the past decade or so.

no one said we are more talented than brazil...no one in the world is, the only way you beat brazil is by outcoaching them. and its not like brazil just find the best players in the world and let them run around and do what they want, they do have good good managers for the national team.

you are making a weird argument...of course you can take the best team or 2nd best or wherever brazil is right now and show that they hardly ever lose...you can do that with any sport. but what you arent disproving is that we arent improving because of coaching. thats the obvious flaw on this team. sure, maybe brazilian players can juggle the ball up in the air a few hundred times more than american players but that doesnt do you any good on the field if you dont know where to pass it, when to pass it, when to dribble, when to cross, etc...

skills makes the player, were good on that. i have no problem with our players skill level
tactics makes the team, we dont have that. i do have a problem with this. we need a european coach badly
