Any reviews on a 2002 Dodge Dakota Sport, 4x4 4.7L V8? I'm just looking to use it as an around the house work truck, hauling mulch, plywood, etc. I have an older friend with one who is going through a midlife crisis, so he is pretty much willing to give me the truck just so he can get his wifes ok to buy a sports car. However even at a cheap price I just want to know if this thing is even worth it.

Test drove one of the new Ram 1500's last night. The new suspension in the back makes for a great ride.

It's been six months, still going strong. Next items are brake job, swapping out a slightly bent wheeland installing wheel spacers in back, and maybe I will finally replace the lower latch on the driver rear door...

OK played around the tank before so this tank I tried to keep mileage a primary concern and averaged... 15

Looks like I will go back to tormenting people with no AC

slightly related: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F680Cbccam0

I'd like to do this to mine someday. I've seen plenty of 4bt conversions but I'd definitely like to put a 7.3 or really anything I could get a deal on.

Hurley and I have already added an MBRP 4" exhaust(with muffler) and an AFE intake. The smarty should be in sometime around the middle of the week

Not a Ram, but I just got a 2005 Dakota SLT V8 Quad Cab 4x4 this weekend. Loving it so far. Going to be using it to tow a yet-to-be-purchased travel trailer soon.

Anyone know a good place locally to get tonneau covers at a decent price? Thinking about getting a hinged one that locks. Armor Lids online looks ok, they are priced well but I wanted to check to see if anyone knows where to get one around the Triangle that matches your body besides the Dodge dealership.

I bought a 2006 Dakota quad cab v8 last year around this time I think. The main thing I can warn ya about is the suspensions on them are absolute trash. Within 50k or so I needed all new front/rear shocks, steering rack and a few other odds and ends. The stabilizer bar linkages are also crap and break very easily, but you can get replacements online for like $25 each and much higher quality than what comes on it. I would replace the shocks with rancho's now and get it over with....a night and day difference over stock. If you dont drive it alot then the suspension stuff might not be important right now, but for mine I have put over 45k miles on it since I got it in about a year so the stuff went pretty quick.

The suspension stuff is pretty easy to replace if you are handy with some tools and got some jack stands.

Ive got alot of really good info from the 3rd gen forum at

http://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen-dakota-68/

Other than the suspension crap I must say this truck is awesome. It has pretty comparable towing and payload to a fullsize. I will prolly upgrade the exhaust system at some point, it just needs a little bit more rumble from the v8, and with I think 2 resonators that are on it that just wont happen.

Not really, the issue is:

Or should I say WAS....no more resonators and a nice magnaflow give it just the sound I wanted.

came home from charleston today to a puddle of ATF under my '03

Started looking, and found where the t-case had been tig welded back together, and slathered with JB weld byt a previous owner

i guess baja'ing the bitch up and down trail ten at Harlan a dozen times last weekend was too much for the JB weld

Let me know man... Probably not going to burn down the 35s on the common rail, but might drive the '52 up that way!

it is somewhat hanging on, but needs attention.
