Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Panthers quarterback Josh McCown is expected to miss a month of action due to a sprained foot. So in lieu of holding a roster spot for McCown as he heals, the Panthers have opted to place him on injured reserve.
The move means that McCown's 2009 season has ended, after only one game.
Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that the Panthers have an interest in free-agent quarterback A.J. Feeley, presumably as a replacement for McCown -- and possibly as a replacement for Jake Turnover. (We're now using the translated version of his surname.)
The other quarterback on the Carolina roster is Matt Moore.
For McCown, his Carolina career likely has ended, given that he is signed only through 2009. Then again, there's a chance that he'll work out an injury settlement and return to the team later in the year. If the Panthers and McCown reach an injury settlement, however, he'd be free to sign with any other team. 9/14/2009 4:32:12 PM |

After this offseason, Fox and Delhomme are attached at the hip. As goes Delhomme, so will go Fox. The only way for Fox to save his job will be a turnaround in Delhomme's play, with the possible exception of a backup or Free Agent QB coming out of nowhere to take the Panthers to the playoffs. 9/14/2009 7:09:02 PM |

You know I wouldn't be surprised to see Jake come out next week in Atlanta and throw a pick on the first offensive possession...but it also wouldn't shock me to see him go 15/21 for 260 yards, 2 TDs and no picks
You know, the Patriots lost their first game of 2003 to Buffalo by a score of 31-0. After starting 0-1, they soon had a 2-2 record. Then a 14-2 record, then a Super Bowl.
I'm not predicting that, but as HORRENDOUS as Jake has looked the last 2 games that counted, he can't do any worse right?
Plus remember up until last year, at least the previous few, how we kind of sucked at home, and played great on the road? Maybe that trend is coming back around...maybe it came back right before the playoffs last year?
I dunno, looking for some kind of silver lining for this god awful team 9/14/2009 7:12:35 PM |

^^ he'll play "well" because that'd be the worst thing he could for the franchise right now. Another 4 pick game and he's toast, letting the Panthers finally move on. It's never that easy 9/14/2009 9:28:50 PM |

^ Exactly. He'll have a few decent, maybe even good, games which will lead the coaches to think "OK, we're good now" and then the real Jake will bite the team in the ass. 9/14/2009 10:18:00 PM |

all things considered (ie giving the Eagles the ball in the red zone), I think the defense as a whole played decent...thats tough to stomach with the amount of points we gave up, but you can't fault the defense on special teams TDs, and you can only fault them so much when we turn the ball over inside our own 20
That being said, Pep's one big play was when we were down 38-10...thats an example of him not making plays when the game counts9/14/2009 11:21:28 PM |

You could take that a step further... maybe he's only capable of making big plays when up against the 2nd/3rd string offense.
^ From that article:
Quote : | "The Carolina Panthers aren't scrambling at quarterback despite Jake Delhomme's nine interceptions and two lost fumbles in the team's last 22 possessions." |
11 turnovers in 22 possessions. And Jake wasn't even the QB for several of those possessions.

I figured we were at least going to be able to run the ball and beat some teams like, 31-28
But in the last two games (ARI, PHI), we ran the ball, scored a touchdown...gave up a FG...and completely abandoned the run

I still have hope for the season if we can get our playcalling worked out.
I mean, Fox has been a conservative coach that runs too much his whole career, but now when we have a great running game and a terrible QB, we have to throw all the time? 9/16/2009 5:26:12 PM |

I'd expect that a team that went 12-4 last year and returned 95% of their starters would be competitive. I still think they will be, even though the panthers have one hell of a schedule.
Quote : | "our defensive coaches quit" |
Our defensive coaches were underacheivers. I'm not saying hiring Meeks was right or wrong, but letting Trgo go was defintiely a good call.
Quote : | "jake killed last season with a stinker" |
This is the big concern. If the light doesn't come back on for Jake, this season will go down in flames. You hate to say the whole team revolves around one guy's performance, but it really does.
Quote : | "peppers wanted to leave" |
Peppers wanted to leave, but he didn't. And judging by last week's game, he still gives a damn.
Quote : | "owner's sons were fired " |
This has little-to-nothing to do with how the panthers play.
Kemo. And he's an overwhelmingly average DT. Still could use him though...
Quote : | " we havent added anyone good" |
I'd say Mike Goodson and Everette Brown are pretty good. The two new DT's might end up being good. Again though, the key is that we didn't let anybody who's worth a damn go, and we won 12 games last year.9/16/2009 6:05:14 PM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148442 Posts user info edit post |
Kemo is a big body though to help clog the middle and stop the run...the Giants gashed us for like 250 rushing yards (or more?) last year without Kemo...he's not an Albert Haynesworth but we definitely miss him 9/16/2009 6:27:45 PM |

The main problem is of course Jake but defense is no better, our D line is nowhere close to what it used to be our Defensive backs are not great, but decent ken lucas has stunk last year
our WR are getting old, i still like moose and smith but they dont have many good years left our O-line seems good, and our RBs are the best thing we have our defensive coaching staff sucks, the rest is good
so with all these problems i think they need to clean house and start over or else it will be like an old car where you keep fixing one thing and something else goes wrong 9/16/2009 7:23:01 PM |
