I'm not tryna defend or whatever, but I will bring up that LF hired 3 coaches and fired/parted with 3 in VB. He hired Byrne a while back, she didn't pan out, he hired Stubbs, she didn't pan out, he hired the new guy, Bunn.
When you're asking a coach to undertake a rebuilding job like that one, you gotta give the coach a decent chance, and the coach prob has to get a little lucky. I don't know if he could have done much more or done it faster.4/30/2010 2:27:40 PM |

Triangle Business Journal reports NCSU Athletic Director Lee Fowler is on his way out. Is this a good move for the Pack? http://poll.fm/1v5nb 4/30/2010 2:34:52 PM |

i cannot imagine that Lee Fowler can even comprehend someone who is coming to NC State with the attitude of "I did not come here to lose" that CJ Leslie says as he is coming here. Like, it must sound like a foreign language to him.
Because he is basically the Herb Sendek of ADs. god. you may be "servicable" as a position filler, but jesus christ, have some passion for the program you represent. and back that up with results eventually. like before a decade passes. 4/30/2010 2:35:33 PM |

from Brett Jensen, who broke the story yesterday on WFNZ.com
Quote : | "You first heard here at WFNZ.com on Thursday that word out of Mississippi was that N.C. State athletics director Lee Fowler was interviewing for the same job at Mississippi State in Atlanta. Well, there’s some new information from the same people that first spilled the beans about Fowler and the Bulldogs.
Turns out that Fowler isn’t likely to get the job. He’s a legitimate candidate, but a long shot at this point.
Others in line for the job include a female assistant AD from the Pac-10, as well as a former member of the school’s Final Four team in the mid 1990s. However, the leading candidate appears to be Scott Stricklin, was was named Mississippi State’s associate athletics director for external affairs in 2008.
At this point, it’s a very doubtful Fowler gets the job. And all indications coming out of Raleigh is he’s not long for his current job, either, regardless of what shakes out in Starkville." |

My point was some no name coaches work out and others don't as they try to advance their careers in the big leagues. Urban Myer has done well at Florida where Ron Zook didn't do well and Tommy Bowden failed at Clemson after doing well at Tulane. If we replace Lee Fowler then the next AD is going to have to take a chance on up and coming coaches too when they have to be replaced for one reason, or another. I'll be glad when Fowler is gone, but that doesn't mean we will see a huge improvement in our teams.4/30/2010 11:59:16 PM |

listen, it's not like we're competing for acc titles anyway.
We could hire a monkey and probably would give up 50 to Duke.
If shit ain't working, change it. Fowler wore out his welcome 5 years ago. 5/1/2010 12:09:26 AM |

I would have to say that the last 10 years has been the worst I can remember in either sport.
I remember being excited as a kid with Sheridan, hell even some under Amato (not that he was a long term answer).
I am indifferent these days to the program and I suspect a lot of boosters are too - let's get a young fiery dude in as AD (or a hot chick). If they fail, well, we suck. We suck now.
Barack Obama wouldn't be a bad AD, at least he'd bring CHANGE we can believe in 5/1/2010 12:25:54 AM |

Posted: Yesterday 1:36 PM Re: What Is Moo U? I started liking them when I saw them play back when Rick Fox was there. Being a Canadian and seeing a Canadian kid playing when very few Canadians went down South for basketball scholarships just made me like them.
From there I started learning the history about the program and really liked the way Dean handled things and the type of person he was, and the types of people he recruited.
I was also a HUGE Bulls fan the first year Jordan went pro and didn't even realize he went to UNC...LOL! Once I found that out, it made me love Carolina even more. The one player I had trouble liking at first was Worthy as I LOVED the Celtics back before Mike entered the league and therefor obviously HATED the Lakers. Then once i got my hands on some old games when Worthy was at UNC, I couldn't help but like the guy and the way he played. I always respected his game when he was with the Lakers, for all the attention Kareem and magic got, I always thought James was their unsung hero who consistently played well against the Celtics.
I even applied for a scholly to UNC for soccer my senior year (I applied to the top 5 Div. 1 soccer schools in the U.S. that year), but never heard from them. Only Rutgers offered me a scholly and I decided to stay in Ottawa because of a girl instead (I know, stupid move, but you do stupid stuff like that when you are young). Had it been UNC offering me, I would have left her though...LOL!" |

Holy shit, now I'm disappointed that I haven't been keeping up with TWW for a few days...
He's actually gone?! I can hardly believe it's real....
and yet, I know not to get my hopes up. This is NC State, we could very easily get someone who turns out to be worse. (assuming someone worse actually exists)

http://blogs.newsobserver.com/accnow/fowler-and-nc-state-agree-to-part-ways
Lee Fowler and N.C. State agreed to end their working relationship today after Fowler served almost 10 years as N.C. State's athletic director.
Fowler, 58, will continue to work through June 30 and will receive payment for the remainder of his contract, which is worth $280,000 annually until Sept. 2013.
The school is scheduled to make an official announcement this afternoon.
Under Fowler, the Wolfpack made significant facility upgrades, totaling more than $130 million, to the football stadium, baseball complex and several on-campus venues.
But with the Wolfpack's main revenue sports of football and men's basketball stagnating in the second half of his tenure, Fowler was under pressure from the fan base and new university chancellor Randy Woodson.
N.C. State hasn't had a winning season in football or made the NCAA tournament in men's basketball since 2006. 5/4/2010 12:15:06 PM |
