That's how it goes if you're a Mets fan. I even said in the 9th inning that I know how this story ends since it was on the road and turned it off. I'm not watching this weekend. Too much other stuff to do other than waste my time inside watching this team right now (not that we're awful but still).

Anyway, Johan isn't going to ask for a trade but I seriously don't know how he doesn't kick the shit out of every piece of equipment in the clubhouse. He's a better man than I am.

And I said when we signed him that K-Rod was NOT an elite closer. He has a high WHIP and was never a lights-out guy. The Angels just had an extraordinary amount of close games two seasons ago for him to get the single season record. Also, LOL at Wagner being awesome for Atlanta... though I still wouldn't trust him in the biggest of spots.

What I hate most about it is that Johan's pitch count is getting so high for losses. He's not going to have anything left by August.

Even through his slump, he has a 122 OPS+ in his rookie year in New York City. So if we can get ANYWHERE near to .500 on the road (and we have been a bit unlucky looking at the pythag) we can be a division competing team. We're damn near unbeatable at home.

Look, I'm not trying to troll Ike Davis

But there are Phillies fans that could say Halladay should win the Cy Young...except theres this guy in Colorado who thinks otherwise

And along the same lines, IF IF IF the kid in Washington can continue to ball out...well he's gonna be a front runner for ROtY

^no way he performs that well all season. it certainly wasn't coincidence he got to start at home against the worst offense in the national league.

besides, a pitcher who missed the first quarter of the season against everyday players like davis and heyward?

i like ike but if strasburg even pitches like that 2-3 more times the rest of the season, he is a lock

never underestimate the hype and how that plays a role

^hype is definitely a factor in voting for all awards

^^I certainly don't think he maintains a 18.00 K/9 ratio or an infinite K:BB ratio or anything like that...but theres a reason he got all his hype...he's a fucking beast...watch him throw double digit strikeouts a couple times against the Phillies and Braves and you'll realize it

^i will give credit where credit is due, and right now the 0 BBs in 7 innings is what I'm most impressed with. when he performs like that against a legit team in a more intense situation, i'll get on the wagon. until then, good for him on tonight, but its the fucking pirates.

You gotta crawl before you can walk or run...but I've seen enough of him in AA and AAA to know he is the real deal...let alone his college numbers were sick

I'm just pissed that Syracuse is playing a series in Charlotte (AAA) next week...I was hoping to get to see him in person before his callup...I had marked the series in my head in April but he got called up a little too soon for that

Oh well, at least I got to see Jake Peavy and the White Sox get beat by my Knights before the season

This ROY talk regarding Ike Davis is silly. There are already two players not named Strasburg that will get it over him unless Ike starts killing it. Heyward is the front runner RIGHT NOW. He has been instrumental in the Braves resurgence this season and is among the league leaders in OPS. Yeah his BA is a little low and his K rate too high, but the dude is 20 yrs old.

Second Mike Leake has been dominate with the Reds. Strasburg will get all of the attention, but Leake has been awesome for a surprising Reds team. If the Reds stay in contention all season and Leake approaches 15-17 wins, he'll deserve the ROY (unless Heyward or Davis put up some huge stats).

^ This.

Though I really don't think Leake will still be pitching the way he is come August. He would be adding way too many innings on a young arm.

Heyward is obviously the favorite unless Strasburg has a ridiculous CC Sabathia type run through the NL.

That said, Ike is a player and to do what he is doing (122 OPS+) on a team that a) needs it; and b) is the most criticized team in the biggest sports market in the country is pretty darn impressive.

which line would you rather have?

Stat ---Niese----Stras

IP-------9---------7
H--------1--------4
R--------0--------2
K--------6--------14
BB-------0--------0

Obviously Stras has a better chance of repeating such a performance than Niese, but that should have been considered the performance of the week over Stras...but of course ESPN hype will always win out.

what

It was Strasburg's first major league start and he dominated

Niese had a great game, but he's been up and down for three years now

^ Agreed. The amount of pressure on Strasburg must have been suffocating and then he goes out and racks up 14 Ks. That is why he got that meaningless ESPN recognition. Niese was outstanding, but it was just another west coast game that barely anyone actually saw.

We were one wild pitch away from another run of consecutive shutouts. Phils, Braves, and Nats all lost, great day.

No reason we shouldn't sweep through the 2 worst teams in baseball this week.

Mets have a pretty nice stretch of games coming up and even the Yankees aren't that daunting with A-Rod shelved and some of their stars not performing up to task.

We have a nice little chance to grab first for a bit. I think that might be the impetus that Omar/Wilpon need to get in the race for a good pitching pickup near the deadline.

We'll see if the Mets can start winning on the road. They are fortunate to get the Os and Indians both on the road in consecutive series.

The Braves have played 12 more road games thus far than home games and it will be 14 by the end of the weekend. Not sure why there has been such an imbalance in the Braves road vs home schedule, but that 14 game difference gives me hope that they'll be able to play even better the remaining 60% of the season. Just need the Phillies to continue their hitting amnesia.

So I'm hearing rumblings about the Mets and Mariners talking Cliff Lee... that is a tough one.

We'd be giving up Niese and a top guy like Flores/Martinez with the full knowledge that it COULD be a 4 month rental. Niese just threw a complete game 1-hit shutout and is projected as a solid #3 type arm but with his new cutter he might have a slightly higher ceiling... and we all know about Flores' and Martinez's potential.

Lee isn't going to sing an extension in season so this would be a huge gamble but I am having trouble getting over just how awesome a 1-2-3 of Santana, Lee and Pelfrey could be... yikes.

Love the confidence they are playing with. Our two cornerstones have been fantastic in June after their slow starts. They are back to must watch for me. Can't wait to watch Pelf-Hughes II today.

Too bad the rest of the NL East is running train on the AL in Interleague too.

14 runs without a single homer? Only in Citifield

No truth to the rumor that Lady Gaga went down to to locker room after the game and got DP'd by Henry Blanco and Rod Barajas

The report gets more graphic, when the accuser claims Santana penetrated her, grabbed and bruised her calf, and "ejaculated on her upper thigh."

The accuser claims she "cleaned her thigh with her underwear" -- and then returned to a tennis court with Santana, and actually watched him play tennis with someone else. "

I would like to petition MLB to see if the Mets could be moved to the AL Central. Until I see otherwise, I'm just going to assume they would go undefeated in divisional games.

since the twins are ALC then the mets > twins, right?

or is it twins > NLW = dodgers > NLE = mets...so twins > mets?

Reyes and Wright have been unbelievable. And really they are JUST entering the beginning stage of their prime years. Making a real case to be the starting left side of the infield.

P.S. If Placido Polanco wins the third base vote I'm not watching the All Star game.
