great, Youk on the DL, Berkman not starting today

I'm gonna have to run V-Mart at 1B and John Buck at C

supposedly though, Zobrist is available to pinch hit tonight, and should start tomorrow

[Edited on August 3, 2010 at 6:13 PM. Reason : haha i'd really be fucked if I had to run JOE Buck at catcher]

Carlos Gonzalez with 2 homeruns today...that makes 6 in the last 7 games

Not bad, considering I took him 128 picks later than the great Matt Kemp

Quote :
"Thu, Aug 5
1B Kevin Youkilis is scheduled for season-ending surgery on his right thumb Friday morning. After consulting with nationally-renowned hand specialist Dr. Thomas Graham in Cleveland on Thursday morning, it was decided that surgery was necessary. Youkilis tore the adductor muscle in his right thumb while swinging at a pitch Monday night against the Indians, but said it had been a nagging problem for almost a week. Youkilis will be immobilized for six weeks following the surgery and wouldn't be available to play again in 2010 unless "they were playing on Thanksgiving", according to Sox manager Terry Francona. The Sox are looking at "complimentary solutions" at first base to go along with Mike Lowell, and could be in the market for a lefty-swinging first baseman like free agent Carlos Delgado. "Everybody knows that Youk is a guy that plays the game hard. He's just like (second baseman Dustin) Pedroia. When you see those guys coming out of the game (with injuries), you know something is going down," said David Ortiz. "I remember the way he looked like after he hit that ball (Monday night). I knew there was definitely something wrong with Youk. That's a guy that will play through pain. Everybody is aware of that.""

You alienated too many people with your hyper-sensitivity toward the mongoloid comments.

haha because all the "you're in a league with a bunch of mongoloid" comments were bullshit, since i was referring to my friend's league, which i mentioned in the OP

but i still contend that you don't draft ANY 1B or OF in the 1st round of a 10 or 12 team draft unless he's named Albert Pujols

even though Slave Famous is all on Matt Kemp's dick, and Kemp is currently the 17th ranked player in the league...whoops I mean the 17th ranked outfielder in the league

I'm destroying the other people in my league so bad I dont need everyone advice

but seriously, last week I traded Shin-Soo Choo for Nelson Cruz straight up. Well yesterday, the guy I traded Choo to DROPPED him straight up. Keep in mind he has Bill Hall, Scott Rolen, Tim Stauffer, and Hong-chih Kuo on his team. Why the fuck wouldnt he drop one of them instead of Choo.

So now I have the #1 waiver priority in my league and I'm going to pick Choo up. So essentially I just got Nelson Cruz for nothing. ohhhh, I love this league. Here is my team right now:

C Joe Mauer
1B Aubrey Huff
2B Robinson Cano
3B Evan Longoria
SS Ben Zobrist
OF Carl Crawford
OF BJ Upton
OF Nelson Cruz
Util Rickie Weeks
Util Mark Reynolds
BN Aramis Ramirez

SP Justin Verlander
SP Clayton Kershaw
RP Francisco Cordero
RP Francisco Rodriguez
P Brian Fuentes
P Josh Johnson
P Adam Wainwright
P Dan Haren
BN Yovani Gallardo
BN David Price
BN Francisco Liriano
BN Ricky Nolasco
DL Stephen Strasburg

I'm also in 1st place in my other two leagues that I'm in

solid

and while some of us dont need much advice, its always nice to see if one of your players isnt starting (for people who can adjust their lineups daily), or if one of your players (like Youk) is about to miss the rest of the season, and therefore deserves dropping with the quickness

So I am thinking about dropping Mike Pelfrey's sorry ass. He had a 10+ ERA in July. I could keep him on my bench, but I hate doing that. Plus I hate the Mets.

theres a reject button, you can push it if you want, its really not going to hurt my feelings.

I hate being in a stagnant league. I think some people would be content just riding out the whole season with the team they drafted. I cant stand that, so I offer up trades, lots of them, usually I do it just to open the lines of communication and get the counter offers rolling

I know everybody is in fantasy football mode, but I wanted to see what yall thought about this:

The guy who just missed the playoffs in my league (top 6 teams make playoffs, top 2 seeds get a bye, this guy finished 7th), dropped his entire roster last night (minus 2 injured players) and picked up scrubs at the same positions. He dropped guys like Longoria, Texeira and Carpenter. We don't have a waiver system (first come first serve), so I reverted all the changes and locked his ability to add or drop players. Thoughts?

^ Moves like that need to be overruled by the commissioner. I've never understood why people just drop their entire roster at the end of the season just because they missed the playoffs. It can fuck up the balance of the league depending on who gets which players.

It happened to me a couple of years back in a public league and some dude dropped guys like Crawford and what not and a guy I played in playoffs picked up these players and won the damn league.

Finished 3rd in my only league this year and am in a dog fight in the 1st round matchup. Pissed that I missed getting 2nd place and a bye, but my team was dog shit this year. My first two picks were Mauer and Kinsler, and I promptly traded Mauer for V-Mart and Justin Upton. Ouch. So basically I have had to scrape together a team all season to even finish 3rd. Right now I am riding hot bats like Jay Bruce, Neil Walker, Ryan Raburn, Omar Infante, etc. If I saw the lineup I am playing now at the beginning of the season, I would probably have done this

[Edited on September 9, 2010 at 7:34 AM. Reason : Also nice call on Reyes in the 1st post of this thread. I avoid Met players like the plague]

wow, barely made it into the finals...i was down 7-6 at the end of saturday (tied in RBIs)...i had the other 6 batting categories, he had all 7 pitching categories and i wasn't gonna catch him in ERA, and he had no losses...but I was only down 2 wins and 2 quality starts so i dropped Manny, Beltran and a stream pitchers and came away with 3 quality starts for the 8-6 win

now for the 2 week finals

Adrian Beltre gonna miss the rest of the year as he left the team today to witness the birth of his child

I'm down 8-5 right now, but its close as fuck...gonna come down to the last day I think...I have 6 pitchers left this week, my opponent has 5

^yep, just lost Prado and Zimmerman during the end of the 2-week finals for me, down 8-1

plus, now Utley and Werth have taken days off, Olivo (i shouldn't really have him anyways) is in and out..

i'm wondering if i should stream a shitload of pitchers these last two days so i win K and possibly W, and hope i can keep SB, possibly jump RBI or AVG or SV, but i don't really feel like being that big of a bitch. i'm pretty much fucked in R, HR, ERA, and WHIP, and probably W.

I picked up Bill Hall to replace Beltre, although luckily I have David Wright as my every day 3B...Hall has a 7 game hitting streak...also a few steals lately, and I'm down 5-4 in steals...heres how close my matchup is:

Runs: Up 49-40
HR: Down 13-11
RBIs: Up 52-49
SB: Down 5-4
AVG: Up .294 to .273
OBP: Down .373 to .349
W: Down 7-6
L: Tied 5-5
SV: Up 6-4
ERA: Down 3.18 to 3.80
WHIP: Down 1.13 to 1.32
QS: Down 12 to 8

I think the first tiebreaker in Yahoo! leagues is ERA...

Finished 2nd in my only league. Fucking guy I played had Juan Pierre during the last two weeks and he scored like 15 runs and had 10 SBs. That won him two categories right there. Oh well, 2nd is better than 12th.

Quote :
"Cardinals officials believe Adam Wainwright will likely need Tommy John surgery.
What a shame. We won't know anything definitive until later today, but baseball could be without one of the game's best pitchers for at least the next year. Wainwright, 29, has finished in the top three of the NL Cy Young balloting in each of the past two seasons. The Cardinals will find it very difficult to stay in contention without him. Wainwright's options for 2012 and 2013 were triggered by his finish in the Cy Young voting, but the contract stipulated that he must finish the 2011 season healthy and not on the team's disabled list"

anybody else with bad injuries to completely avoid? any potential breakout stars? any minor league prospects to keep an eye on?

^ Hanson and Jurrjens both have minor injuries at this point which should somewhat impact their value. Oswalt got hit in the neck or whatever so that might have lingering effects. I always focus on hitting anyway with all my top picks as pitching is so unpredictable. I would take a gamble on Zambrano if you can get him in later rounds.

I bought what I thought was a typical preview magazine but it's a shit load of stats that are completely overwhelming. I'd actually like to start using methods like that but I need a guide to my guide (which stats to focus on and stuff like that) - anybody know of something like that?

might wanna check out some Sabermetrics websites to get an idea of some of those stats, kinda hard to explain in a short and sweet way

the Yahoo big board is usually a pretty decent overall look at the top 100 players
