NYR's trouble with Staal is a funny coincidence...I picked him up from them during the same period of free agency in NHL '10 (playing as the Canes in GM mode) and he's been brilliant.

Here's to hoping for a buyout of Brind'Amour & Samsonov to free up some $$$ to throw his way.

Wishful thinking. He'd be great to pair up with Pitkanen. But if the Rangers can't give him a good enough contract, I doubt JR can either. But we shouldn't let that be the deterrent to buy out Rod the Bod and Thamthonov. That money can be used much more efficiently.

No qualifying offers for Brett Carson or Alex Picard per the canes website.

Picard I understand, but why Carson? He had a decent year and I think i'd rather have him in my third pairing than Jay Freaking Harrison.

Damn, really? I was really hoping and expecting Carson to be back. JR either must really like Babchuck and Sanguinetti to fill a spot or we may try and sign someone in FA. Not too surprised about Picard though.

there's another buyout period at some point, I believe.

after researching that, I'm probably wrong. I can't find anything on it.

the only way this makes sense is if we plan to use the money we won't be paying the potential buyouts to pay folks next offseason. which we all know or strongly doubt will be the case.

discussion with JR made it clear to me that i probably wouldn't be playing here next year. thinking about if i could go somewhere else to play and what's going on with the team here, i just wanted to stay here and help the team. [something along those lines]
i kinda wanted a chance to redeem myself, but from talking with JR it was clear that it wasn't going to be here with the direction this team is going.
my home is here, my kids grew up here, didn't want to go anywhere else.
