I'm pretty nervous. Defoe delayed his surgery to play in this match and I hope it's worth it.

JUST GET THROUGH TO THE GROUP STAGE PLEASE

Two would have been doable.

Three is the sigh of relief and nearly impossible to recover from.

Spurs got a tough group, but we knew that was going to be the case going in with their seeding. It's not anyone that they can't beat at home though.

Inter will win the group and the home/away with Werder will be the deciding factor in who finishes 2nd.

^ I forgot to say this earlier but Malouda > Bale if I'm picking a left winger

Malouda is an outstanding player, but not for one second would I swap him him with Bale in his current form.

The first match out in the CL is going to tell a lot of the story for Spurs playing at Bremen. If they can somehow get a result there it would be a huge fail to not finish 2nd in the group.

EDIT: It's kind of weird to compare the two because Chelsea doesn't ask nearly as much of Florent as Spurs does of Bale. Bale is THE attacking creative presence for Spurs while Malouda is benefiting from attention being drawn to other players on the pitch for them. Two different roles in the same position...

[Edited on August 26, 2010 at 2:04 PM. Reason : clarification about Malouda]

Hell, that it is even debatable is a big compliment to Bale in itself.

If we didn't have Bale, though, Spurs would be sitting on 1 point after 2 fixtures and out of Champion's League football while Chelsea would still be on 6 points and wouldn't have missed Malouda one second.

It's a long season though and he needs to keep it up.

Zlatan back to Italy. Funny how he was talking all that shit about italian football in general and he ends up going back after a year. It's also amazing how quickly Spanish clubs get rid of foreign players altogether. Everything there seems to be hi-drama and extremely xenophobic.

Not a very compelling argument. You're talking about a huge difference in relative strength/depth of the two sides. Of course Chelsea, with their much higher wage budget is going to be able to better survive without one of their best players.

I suppose you could make the argument that his surrounding cast makes him better, but that is even less compelling IMO.

Interesting. La Liga is quickly catching up to the EPL as my favorite league to watch every weekend. I need to find out what the deal is with this and if most are free with the Sports Pack.

I'm pretty sure I made myself clear on the next post if you keep reading.

Two different roles but the same position. Malouda is great and all, but Bale's crosses, kicks on set pieces, and generally all around creative attacking play make him a more rounded, better player in his current form.

If you swap those players Malouda wouldn't be able to match Bales productivity on this Spurs squad.

[Edited on August 28, 2010 at 9:32 AM. Reason : of course I am biased too, so you have to take that into account haha]
