haha, that's actually low sodium for me

So far today I've already exceeded my recommended sodium intake by 12% and recommended protein intake by 50%

"A couple handfuls of dried fruit as well. I love dried fruit, too bad it's got a ton of sugar added to it "

Why are you buying dried fruit with added sugar? Get natural dried prunes, apricots, figs, etc without added sugar.

To offset the effect of the natural sugars in them, don't eat too much at one time, and eat them with nuts/seeds such as almonds, cashews, etc. This will make it almost a complete meal, and most importantly, slow down the absorption of sugar from the dried fruit.

Quote :
"breakfast: special K red berries "

Your lunch and dinner sound good and balanced and healthy. But the breakfast is not good. Special K is junk. It is made of white rice and sugar, which are the first 2 ingredients. Everything about it is bad:

- Almost no fiber
- Low in protein
- No fat at all

Eat some porridge made from scratch (oats, wheat, barley, rye, etc), or if you really want packaged cereal, check out the Nature's Path brand http://www.naturespath.com , and buy one of these:

http://www.worldpantry.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=179660&prrfnbr=192409
http://www.worldpantry.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=179660&prrfnbr=220363
http://www.worldpantry.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=179660&prrfnbr=192406

They are high in protein, high in fiber, have good fats, and other healthy stuff such as flax, blueberries, etc.

Or get Kellogg's Raisin Wheats. Out of the commercial brands, that's probably the best (unless you go with plain 100% whole wheat Shredded Wheat type cereals).

^ DUDE, WTF? You are going for the polar opposite of Atkin's? High sugar, low fat, low protein. Wow.

[Edited on May 25, 2010 at 4:06 PM. Reason : I wish one day we can wake up and find all commercial food brand factories burnt to the ground]

Dude, I know it's not the best thing but I refuse to eat the rabbit food that you mentioned... trust me, it's on the list of the only cereals my doctor recommended (included with Uncle Sam I think). Cereal isn't an everything day for me... yesterday was blueberry yogurt (with more blueberries). But I gotta have something to satisfy my cravings better to have Special K than pound cake or something else I would love right now.

I have to say, most of your diets are pretty shit. I've been exercising on and off since August 08, and lost nearly 50 pounds while gaining a decent amount of strength in the process. However, I never lost an OUNCE unless my diet was straight.

These past 2 months or so, I dropped about 15 pounds, all of it fat, and the only reason it happened is because I stuck to a diet. If all you guys want to do is "tone" or whatever the fuck you want to call it, stop eating like shit.

- Not the best thing? It is close to the worst thing!!

- Rabbit food? Have you tried Nature's Path cereals? Not only are they healthy, they are extremely delicious. Try the OptimumĀ® Cinnamon, Blueberry, Flaxseed Cereal (3rd link) and see what I mean. This is not Grape Nuts I am asking you to try.

- Now doctors prescribe cereals? You don't have gluten intolerance, so I don't see why a doctor needs to intervene. And I am sorry, unless you have some disorder/disease which prevents you from eating other way healthier cereals, your doctor is fucking stupid. Just like my father's ex-doctor (a FUCKING HEART SPECIALIST) who told him not to eat nuts due to his high cholesterol because they are high in fat . Some doctors shouldn't be doctors.

- Try the cereal I listed in bold above, and then get back to me about the cravings which will vanish! It is freakin delicious .

BTW, high sugar and high glycemic index foods (such as SPECIAL K) are way worse for you than fat in terms of health, physique, body fat, everything.

She didn't prescribe me a damn thing, but way to put words in my mouth. It's my endocrinologist, and when my insulin resistance was way out of whack I had a strict list of foods to stick to - the only cereals that were on that list looked like the equivalent of rabbit food so I just didn't eat cereal.

She never told me to eat Special K. Ever. I just do OCCASIONALLY because I like it. So there. Calm down.

^^^^/^^^^^

What you eat is the most important thing.

If you want to lose weight, you can run your ass around for 30 minutes to burn a couple hundred calories or you can just not drink that 20oz soda.

If you want to gain weight via muscle, you've got to get protein in your diet.

Also, I'll eat Reese's Puffs when I get cravings for them. I don't really think those are bad for you though, because peanut butter obviously contains protein. Also, it's only 3 grams of fat per 3/4 cup so it's great for a snack.

pump & ride? YES PLZ

kk in all seirousness. i had my bfast smoothie and for lunch we went to this buffet place (blah i hate group lunches!)

the only thing to choose from was iceberg salad, sugary sweet poatoes, heavily salted green beans, meatloaf & fried chicken

oh yea and banana pudding & peach cobbler

i chose the meatloaf over fried chicken but i ate everything in moderation

also someone brought in fucking desserts & a 7 layer dip. i partook in that but again, not as much as i wanted (i think i had like 5 chips w/ dip)

and now im in my hotel room... just ate 2 reeses cups (fucking weak) and some chex mix

fml fml fml

but i get to go home a day early so i can get TWO gym work outs in before i leave for NC and i plan to punish myself for such disgraceful eating behavior

I am allergic to apples. I eat dark raisins and I eat raisin bran if that is good?

Should I go to the gym now and lift? It is midnight, and I haven't been to the gym in 1.5 years... and not regularly for ~3 years.

If at least 3 people say yes, I will go.

Hit the gym HARD today, pretty proud of myself actually.

1 hour plus 5 min. cool down on the stationary bike (this on again off again rain is pissing me off. I'd much rather do it on my actual bike). Shade over 21 miles, 700+ calories, then I lifted.

Deadlift:
1x10x135
1x10x155
1x10x175
1x10x205

Lat pulldowns:
3x8x100

Seated cable row:
3x8x120

Upright cable row:
3x8x80

Bicep cable curl:
1x12x50
3x8x70

Hammer curls:
3x8x25

Then I hit the sauna and steam room for 15 minutes each.

Promptly stopped at subway and destroyed a foot long oven roasted chicken breast. Going to wait about another 1 and eat another meal.

short answer: yes

Your body produces a certain amount of cholesterol each day. When there isn't any (or very little) coming in from your diet it causes an up-regulation of certain liver enzymes that cause the body to overproduce cholesterol...this is what causes the high number in bloodwork.

ok so i am going to get in on this. i did a biggest loser with friends over the holidays and we did a google spreadsheet. it made keeping up with things a lot easier. we should do one for all who are entered. it will make tracking easier also. we all put up 3 goals and tracked progress every sunday. it would be awesome if someone who is good at excel would make one so everyone could track their progress.

my 3 goals were ride my bike for 5 hours per week, eat no breakfast out, and get down to packing my lunch 4 days a week for work. by doing that i dropped 30 lbs in 8 weeks.

if i were to pick 3 goals i would do ride 5 hours per week. be able to do 100 pushups straight by the end of 8 weeks, and pack my lunch 4 days a week.

i would be all in if someone made a speadsheet on google so i can track it. i am not smart enough to make one myself. plus everyone should be able to see it.

STATS
age- 30
height - 6'1-1/2"
weight- 245 lbs
