Very nicely done. I just did the I-A license today and did all silver. I might go back for all gold eventually but for now I'd rather devote my gaming time elsewhere Like on those online races. Just beat the Audi TTS and Ford GT races which was enough to bump me up to lvl 25 and unlocked the endurance races.
Should make for an interesting evening... 1/8/2011 7:52:39 PM |

oh my goodness. the formula gt is quite a car
i'm going to go back and try to gold the couple of extreme/expert races i missed before trying endurance. should probably spend some more time with b-spec at some point.
i still haven't beaten the historic race car cup or whatever... think a race modded z28 camaro would do the trick? seems like all the ones that you race against are 20,000,000 cr. 1/8/2011 11:56:17 PM |

I guess I've been doing it all wrong b/c i've logged 3-4 hours in this game and only on level 6 with not much cash. the only car i've purchased and tuned was the first miata i bought on day 1 .
So according to you guys, to make fast cash and xp, i need to do seasonal eventS? I'll give it a whirl.
i want the new camaro and a zr1 vette 1/9/2011 10:09:31 AM |

^yeah, I played a couple nights and got to lvl 4 w/ a miata (and the several crap cars I won) and about 30k. Do a couple of seasonal events to get cash to buy a mini, and do the first seasonal event.... and then you will start flying through the rankings. In the span of one afternoon I went from lvl 4 to lvl 18 and made over 1.6 million, just by doing seasonal events.
^^and holy crap... I don't think I will ever be that good

^^^^^Did you manage to beat that Mini challenge race? If you want to beat it without putting a lot of money into the car be very particular of when you shift. The power (in stock configuration) drops off a lot after 6200 rpm but redline is 7000 so it is not advantageous to shift that late.
Anyone have any issues beating the NASCAR Nurburgring Challenge? I was impressed at how well that car stuck to the road, as well as the strength of the brakes. I couldn't fathom controlling that car with a DS3 alone so I drove it with TC on 3 and SRF on. Left the tires alone though and beat it on my 2nd try.
^what are you talking about? You've always (in this GT and past versions) been able to redo races you've already won for more money and experience points. It wasn't anything added in an update.

^^^^i didn't go back and try that yet, but i will this afternoon.
i imagine i'll have an easier time with it, now that i've raced a bunch of the a-spec with the mini and am more comfortable with its handling..
funny story, i was racing a lot with the mini and then decided to do the go-kart special event... hahaha the first turn around the corner i went waaaaaaaay in the grass and hit the wall. the handling on the kart is way way way more sensitive than the mini
i think it is awesome how each car handles different just as it would in real life 1/10/2011 5:53:01 AM |

^who are you referring to? The Mini race is best done (IMO) with all aids shut off. If you're smooth that race is definitely doable. I beat it with stock horsepower, 172, and no weight reduction or sticky tires to speak of. Took almost an hour though.

I can't recall exactly but I think I lowered the suspension just a little bit below the default setting (-15 f/r I think). I put the aerodynamic downforce all the way up front and rear and I think I had the car geared for 234 mph or so. However, given the aerodynamic drag even on the long straight I never topped 215 (I think). I passed Jeff Gordon (the leader) just after the banked slight left hand turn which is two turns before the last big long straight away. My first lap was a 6:45.xxx and my second a 6:44.xxx. It's key not to go off track at all. I think out of both of my laps I only went wide in one turn (a turn where the guardrail was very close to the edge of track).

i've finally gotten B-spec driving down I think. Initially didn't like that you have to babysit the driver but it's fun when I'm spamming "pace down" and yelling "come on man, CALM DOWN!!" when he gets all angry.
I also think I've gotten the hang of getting better lap times, the key for my somewhat-cool driver is to keep alternating him from about 75% pissed off to about 50%.

i just did one of the intermediate nascar things... it took me literally 2 hours to complete it was the one where you have to go around daytona on the outside and not hit any cones. you have to complete it in under 13.4 seconds..
my wife was going nuts b/c she spent about 2 hours hearing jeff gordon say, "are you ready?", "you gotta have that soft touch", "nascar requires delicate handling", etc... i don't know what made it so difficult, but it took me forever...
also, doing those seasonal event races is almost too easy. i get the car that is required, soup it up, and whip the competition and get crazy cash and xp for it... 1/10/2011 8:06:15 PM |

^the NASCAR SHIT is annoying to beat. Mainly Jeff Gordon's voice. After a while I just put that shit on mute so I didn't have to listen to it. It definitely didn't take me 2 hours to beat the intermediate level though. As far as seasonal races being too easy, what do you mean by "set up"? Most of those events are designed for you to be using a close to stock vehicle. Try doing most of those races with just an oil change done to your car and they're not so easy anymore. 1/10/2011 8:53:31 PM |

on the seasonal events i do, they are called bonus races, it says tuning is not restricted. so i buy the required car, for example the focus st, and soup it up and then it is easy to get first place and i got like 300,000 credits for it 1/10/2011 9:19:14 PM |
DoeoJ has 7062 Posts user info edit post |
yea they just removed the HP/weight limits from the seasonal races. easy to soup the car up to win now, though you can earn more money if you can limit the tuning.
however for the nascar one, there's not much you can really do to the car in the tuning shop, so you have to adjust the suspension, aero, LSD, etc to win
ha i got sick of jeff gordon in the nascar special. if i hear him say how hard nascar is one more time, i might snap. i may not go back. 1/10/2011 9:39:17 PM |

^^if you want a challenge then don't tune up the car! Besides I doubt you want a souped up Mini or Focus ST anyway. I beat both of those races without increasing horsepower so given an hour per race it's not that difficult to beat. I beat the Audi race without any horsepower increases, ditto the Ford GT event (though I added sport soft tires to that one). 1/10/2011 9:45:57 PM |

^to win I just did basic stuff (that I know helps based on my car knowledge). Lowered the suspension a little, put the aerodynamics up all the way (b/c there are so many turns on that course) and set the transmission to a top speed of 234mph (I just guessed on that top speed but it was a good setting to pick). 1/10/2011 9:50:29 PM |
DoeoJ has 7062 Posts user info edit post |

haha yea, damage kinda sucks. in GT-mode it doesn't even seem to affect the driving of the car.. though you can turn on 'damage affects performance' in arcade mode, so maybe you can in GT mode also.
but visual damage is represented by the frame getting malformed/dented. and it looks quite silly. i _think_ you can knock parts off, but i've yet to see that, and i've crashed pretty hard several times. 1/10/2011 11:13:57 PM |

I'm doing the Loeb Challenge in special events, and I am about to throw my controller through my tv. This is ridiculous!! I got the the first race after about 6 or 7 tries, but I have been at the second one for over an hour and a half and have only finished it once. The DQ's are driving me crazy, and I know what time I gotta beat so I find myself rushing. ugh... time for a break, maybe I'll come back tonight and nail it. haha then again, maybe not!

the first thing I did when I got this game was change it to L2/R2 for brake/gas, circle/square for shift up/down. makes it a lot easier IMO

I'm gonna switch to that next time I play- I have a feeling some throttle and brake control would be a nice thing to have (especially on these darned rally races!)
I know it is no steering wheel setup, but it is has to be better than the standard I would imagine

^^ yeah, those are the forza controls that i got used to since i was playing that before i got this game. i think really the only way you can take your driving to the next level is with a wheel. i'm using the dfgt and it works alright if you've got a spare table you can set it up on.
I guess GT5 is just trying to please long time fans by keeping the same control scheme. But you know, all the controller buttons have been analog (can sense how hard you're pressing the button) since the PS2.
