Arnott for Steckle according to Eklund's site. HFBoards keeps crashing on me, so who knows if that's true.

Buy season tickets, and get free tickets to the remaining home games? they're hilariously desperate

there's no ** Official Theoretical NHL Teams ** thread so:

Quote :
"QUEBEC -- Quebec City has announced a name for the not-yet-built arena that will be home to its not-yet-existent NHL team: it will be called the Videotron amphitheatre.

The city's mayor has announced that the arena will be named after the Quebec cable provider following a deal with its parent company, the media giant Quebecor.

Mayor Regis Labeaume says the company will pay $33 million for naming rights for 25 years, another $3.15 million annually for the right to manage the building, and will also give the city 15 per cent of profits from the facility."

big money deal for a nonexistent team and stadium . . . hope it helps get them a team

Florida is had an everything must go sale yesterday (sans Vokoun, Weiss and Booth), so maybe they'll move up there. After some of their recent promotions, I don't see why they shouldn't move.

Atlanta or Florida (if not both) will be gone by the end of next season at the latest.

Is there a city that has lost two franchises from the same major league?

My guess is Florida over Atlanta. The NHL wants the Atlanta TV market, even if the product is unsuccessful. Besides 2 NHL teams in Florida still doesn't make sense to this day. Though the rats back in 1996 were awesome.

^^ off the top of my head i can only think of LA losing the raiders and rams, unless you go back more than like 50 years

or unless you consider the ABA a major league

"The 2011 NHL trade deadline was yesterday, a fact of which you may be dimly aware if you happened to turn on a television at any point during the day.

Now that the dust has settled, fans want to know who came out ahead, and who may have set back their cause. Since most of the deals involved assets like draft picks or prospects, knowledgeable observers know that they can't possibly be accurately evaluated for years to come. But that won't stop the rest of use from passing judgement immediately.

So let's take a look back at the moves made on deadline day and in the weeks leading up to it, and start slapping arbitrary "winner" and "loser" labels on everyone involved.

Winner: Pittsburgh Penguins - In James Neal, managed to acquire an elite winger to play with Sidney Crosby who's young enough to still be halfway decent when Crosby returns from his concussion in 2016.

Loser: Vancouver Canucks - Despite a handful of minor moves, still completely failed to address the team's most obvious flaw, a distinct lack of depth on the sixth line.

Winner: St. Louis Blues - Acquired a player named Brock Beukeboom, which will come in handy if the NHL ever decides to becomes a 1980s arcade game or high school football movie.

Loser: Wade Redden - The bad news: The Rangers filled a need for a veteran defenceman by trading assets for Bryan McCabe rather than bring up Redden from the minors for nothing. The worse news: Their second choice was a bag of wet leaves with a plastic hockey stick nailed to it.

Winner: Anton Khudobin - Exists, apparently.

Winner: Nashville Predators - Acquired Mike Fisher, helping a young roster lacking in playoff experience by bringing in a long-time Ottawa Senator who can describe in detail what not to do.

Loser: Calgary Flames - Foolishly failed to trade any veterans for prospects or draft picks, even though everyone has been saying all season long that as a last place team they need to rebuild by … wait, they're in what place now? Let me see those standings. Wow, has Darryl Sutter been told about this?

Winner: Pierre Gauthier - Made several aggressive moves to bolster his fantasy team, presumably, since he must have been doing something all day.

Winner: Craig Anderson - The latest Ottawa goalie has so far resisted attempts by coaches to teach him the Senators' traditional "Hey, get out of the way of that puck, that would totally hurt if it hit you!" technique.

Loser: Colorado Avalanche - Have you ever made an impulse decision to adopt a stray dog that's been raised in an abusive environment because you hope things will be different if it's given a loving home, but then when you get it back to your place it just poops all the over your floor and rolls around in it? Trading for an Ottawa goaltender is pretty much the same thing.

Winner: Jason Arnott - By escaping the 27th place Devils to join the Washington Capitals, the veteran center will get a chance to return to the postseason for up to six or seven games.

Loser: Tomas Kaberle - Has struggled to adjust to the concept of clearing a rebound after allowing a shot on goal with the Bruins, instead of just automatically skating to center ice for the faceoff like he always did in Toronto.

Winner: That guy at work who made fun of you for using a vacation day to stay home and watch the deadline coverage - Yeah, he was right.

Loser: Dustin Penner - Will have to spend time booking movers and making travel arrangements from Edmonton to Los Angeles, instead of just picking up all his stuff and sprinting there like he probably wants to."

Figured Spontaneous would at least post about last night's spiritual breakthrough by the Caps, who now finally appear capable of winning OT games and even making comebacks (even if it was the Islanders)!

lol, no you're not guaranteed to play. well, maybe in kansas city if you like.

Well I know the Atlanta market isn't watching the games, but in theory that's why the NHL is less likely to move them over Florida.

I love the latest Florida one posted by PinkandBlack half the fans (3 of 6) are probably going, who the hell are these guys?!? They have the most pathetic, but hilarious, marketing team ever throwing in a costume contest, and a 15 dollar party for an event no one will probably go to coupled with all the other hilarious campaigns of the past few years. I did wish I lived there though, you could've gotten lower bowl tickets for the season earlier in the year for 20 bucks a game for the season.

LOL at the Flyers losing 7-0 to the Rags. I hate it for the Canes because I'd really like for them to make the playoffs, but I love a good Flyers ass-kicking. And the Devils won again. The race for the last couple spots in the east is gonna be more interesting than I thought, but the race in the west is just ridiculous again this year. Center Ice is getting all kinds of play in my apartment. My roommates are loving that hockey is on from 7 at night to 1 in the morning every night

^As far as that's concerned, I've heard officials say that so long as the player has not stopped in front of the net, there's some leeway on what they can do in the shootout. That's mostly to accommodate spin-o-ramas like St. Louis' last night. The puck just has to stay in motion, which it did.

Anyone else see that Montreal Police are about to open an investigation on Chara for the hit.

^^ A normal spin move is fine (so is the 180 that St. Louis and Ribeiro use frequently) because of continuation. If you watch the move from last night, at the end he stops and settles it and the puck is clearly moving backwards. As soon as the puck stops forward momentum, the play is dead.

I do think ^^ is right that he settles the puck in front of the net, but I think as long as the shooter is in motion the ref is gonna give him the benefit of the doubt.

yeah i hadn't seen the slow-mo before, in slow-mo i can see that the puck does go backwards

i can see how the official would have missed that live, i can't see how they let it stand after a review (i assume they have slow-mo in toronto)
