I'm starting to think that Denver is going to end up sending him to the Mavs where they will rent him for the playoffs this year.

well they're moronic for voting mcgrady, iverson, yao ming every year no matter what happens but yeah parker's stats are barely different from paul's this year and he's shooting 52%, and when you're the best player on an absolutely dominant team then you should get in, take westbrook off; he'll get his chance

yeah, he's only 22, he'll get his time, plus he's shooting 44% with 4 turnovers a game, he needs to work on his efficiency, i mean parker has a better case than the other spurs that made it, you've got to reward that record

For Christs sakes, lock this thread or the other one already. Its obvious people can't keep relevant discussion to one thread or the other.

Interested to hear Cuntlips reaction to the deal. I bet he thinks they gave up to much.

They're demanding the city make them a new arena (and subsidize it) or they'll move the team to the Honda Center in Anaheim, even though that arena is only a few years newer than Arco and holds roughly the same number of fans. Oh, and they still owe the city about $100 million in loans. Awesome, yet another example of asshole owners holding their cities hostage.

Hmmm....Nets near trade for Deron Williams?? ESPN has been saying it's pretty much a "done deal":

http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nba/news/story?id=6150419

Quote :
"The New Jersey Nets are trying to rebound from the disappointment of their failed pursuit of Carmelo Anthony by swinging a blockbuster trade for the Utah Jazz's Deron Williams before Thursday's 3 p.m. ET deadline, sources said on Wednesday.

The Nets and Jazz, sources said, are closing in on a multi-team trade that would send Williams to New Jersey, with the Nets' Derrick Favors and Devin Harris going to Utah.

The deal, scheduled for completion later Wednesday after a trade call with the league office, would also involve the Golden State Warriors and bring multiple draft picks to Utah.

Just Tuesday night, the Dallas Mavericks were talking to the Nets about re-acquiring Harris, according to sources. The Mavericks had shown interest in the point guard in January and told the Nets the sides should talk again if New Jersey didn't ship him out in a Carmelo Anthony trade.

Sources said Dallas turned down a New Jersey proposal of Harris for Caron Butler, Mavs rookie Dominique Jones and a first-round pick."

Who's Deron going to pass to? Brook Lopez and Sasha Vujajic?

This seems like a reach play after missing out on Carmelo. A great pg needs a supporting cast.

Good move for the future of the Nets. They obviously don't have the pieces right now, but attracting free agents should be a little easier now.

I would expect Harris to be traded back to Dallas now as has been rumored.

^^I mean....I don't know their cap situation, but it's not like this is a deal to get them into the playoffs this year.

Who can they get next year?? This deal comes out of nowhere, so no one has really thought of the possibilities. Melo to New York has been around for a while, so Paul/Williams has been rumored for a while.

Who's available to go to New Jersey that would actually make them formidable??

Funny thing is, Deron + Amare would complement each other's games much more than Carmelo + Amare.

I'm not sure what the Nets endgame is, but they have to have a few people in mind over the next few summers.

Also, how stacked is the East All Star team going to be for the next few years? Lebron, Wade, Rose, Rondo, Howard, Williams, Carmelo, and Amare are basically locks, leaving only a few spots left for the likes of Bosh, Boozer, Noah, Johnson, Horford, Pierce, Wall, etc.

It also just got a lot easier to to make the West squad.

^ That seems fairly likely. I'm sure he didn't want to go through another rebuild and the drama associated with desperately trying to keep a superstar that didn't want to be there.

Favors, Harris, and two 1st rounders is a steal for Utah in my opinion though. If they use those picks properly they stand a good chance of winning this trade despite the media dick riding Williams.

One is NJ's this year, so definite lottery, probably top 10. The others is Oakland's next year, so probably another lottery pick.

That's why I qualified my statement with "in my opinion". I know not many people agree with me, but considering Williams might not even be a Net but for one season and Utah gets Favors plus 2 first rounders including a probable top 10 pick this year, it's not as lopsided as you would think.

Utah, along with Toronto, is probably the toughest place to recruit free agents. What black male in their 20's is going to willfully agree to live smack dab in Morman Country? So they have to make trades and draft picks to contend, and getting Favors, Harris and picks is about as good a deal as they were going to get.

As bad as this is for the Jazz (and it's bad, one of the worst trades since Gasol for Kwame Brown), it makes the Knicks look like absolute dog shit. First Prokhorov forces them to give up way more than they should have for Anthony, and then gets arguably a better player for peanuts. This guy is fucking good.

Exaggerate much? They got a guy who averaged 21 and 7 in Harris with the awful ass Nets two years ago, a top prospect in Favors, and two first rounders which one is a guaranteed lottery and the other stands a good chance of being one too because Golden State won't be making the playoffs anytime soon.

That doesn't sound "peanuts" or one of the worst trades in NBA history to me.

Is Deron Williams a great player? Yes. Is Deron Williams overhyped at the same time? Absolutely.

The Nets are probably a 45-37 type team now.

Considering how both of these trades were more about the future than the present, lets look at the East for the next few years
Tier1

Miami
Chicago
Boston

Tier 2
Orlando
Atlanta
New York

Tier 3
New Jersey
Philadelphia
Charlotte
Indiana
Milwaulkee

Miami is obviously going to be very good for a long time. Chicago is right on their heels, especially if they can keep Noah and Rose develops into a top 5 guy. Boston will fall off very hard at some point in the next few years, but I expect them to contend for at least the next two seasons.

After that, Orlando is a mess. Basically just Howard and a bunch of shooters, they need another star to ascend to the top tier, and that won't happen with Arenas' contract. Atlanta has pretty much hit their ceiling, and they sealed their fate as an also ran whenever they decided to give Joe Johnson 120 million. New York, right now, can't compete with the top 3, but if they get a prime point guard or big man, they'll be right up there.

The next tier is basically just a bunch of decidedly average teams. Indiana and Philadelphia don't scare anyone, Charlotte is the worst drafting organization since DROD900's fantasy team, and the Bucks are just a big pile of mediocrity. With Deron and Lopez, NJ ascends to the top of this tier, but they need a few more pieces to be a legitimate threat. It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out over the next 18 months.

^^^^ Good breakdown.

The Nets better hope and pray that Williams signs that extension and doesn't opt for free agency after this one season with them. It was said on sports radio earlier that Williams was upset about being traded to the Nets and wasn't onboard with the idea at all.

If they don't get him signed before the start of next season, he's gone.

Deron is a top 3 point guard. The only point guard who MIGHT be better than him is Rose. You can make good arguments for Paul and Westbrook (as much as I love Nash...he's aged out)...and as amazing as Rondo is as a distributor, he's a putrid shooter and you can't be a top point guard if defenders sag to the paint when guarding you.

Unless you say Deron is a top 3 player in the league...then he can't be overrated.

Back to the trade discussion...I'd love to know what the Nets long term plans are. Because the 2011 free agent class is shit. They need a good shooter and a really good sf/pf...but there aren't really that many available (I mean...good shooters are a dime a dozen...maybe "premier" is the one I'm looking for). They should try and sign someone like afflalo and then draft a big man like Williams out of Arizona or possibly Sullinger (although I have severe doubts about Sullinger's game transferring to the NBA).

Should be interesting to see what they do next.

They won't have a pick to get Sullinger or Williams, since they just traded that to Utah. What they really need is for Lopez to make "The Leap" to top big man status. Especially with his rebounds...five rebounds a game from your starting center is just pathetic.

Deron and an improved Lopez might get you the 6 or 7 seed in the East. But its going to take another star player to get them in title contention.

I said he was overhyped, by the media especially, and people like yourself. Top 3 player in league? Get outta here. Maybe top 15.

I also find it interesting that the only player you brushed to the side (Nash) is the only player in the league currently averaging a double/double at PG and leading the league in assists.

What makes you so sure he will even sign an extension jbrick83? It already been reported that he is opposed to the idea of playing in NJ and was shocked at the trade. You make it sound like a guarantee...

wow don't know what to think about this, it all depends on whether deron would actually resign or not with the nets, the jazz on the other hand prob had to deal him if they knew he was totally burned out there and wouldn't resign with them, that's crazy after all those weeks and months of carmelo speculation that a better player would suddenly be dealt right after that, seems like there are some more professional people who know how to keep their mouths shut to the media

I'm also curious to see how the perception of NJ changes once they move to Brooklyn. Surely they won't have the same cache as the Knicks, but you have to think it will broaden their appeal to free agents, Deron included.

Reading comprehension FTW! Re-read what I said.

Nash gives up too much on the defensive end and can't create his own shot whenever he wants. Don't argue Nash with me because I'm probably his biggest fan on here.

I'm not arguing with you on Deron and the Nets....I'm just saying he isn't over-hyped. He's arguably the best point guard in the league...how can you overhype that?? And if the Nets can re-sign him, then it's a great move. They needed to do something in a conference that is getting loaded with superstars. They probably got the best available one left (Paul being the other). How is that not a good thing?? Now they have to surround him with more players to make it more attractive to stay.

I'm of the mindset that they might want to change the logo. People associate shittiness with logos in professional sports. They need a fresh start....change everything up.

You might be the only person arguing that.

Points scored from the point guard position is not the end all be all. Guys like Rondo and Nash that can run a team to perfection and create tons of good chances for their teammates will always reign supreme.
