It was nice to see Painter having fun out there. Dunks from Wood and Vandy were an added bonus.

Painter is still raw but that was by far the best he has played in college. Good to see especially with Tracy hurting. I think that's what made tonight even more impressive that we won basically with our two seniors barely seeing the court.

bad news on the tracy front

still a preliminary diagnosis and they wont get an official look at it until later this week but it sounds like he's going to be out over a month

I just worry that this becomes a recurring injury, where it never really heals properly until he has surgery.

Everyone, prepare for overreaction in 3... 2... 1. oh, wait it's already started.

Who's overreacting? It's common knowledge he was having trouble with his knee before the season, and it's clearly acting up again. Nobody's proclaiming doom and gloom, just preparing for the worst.

Some random guy on premium is saying he has already left Charleston and is in Raleigh for surgery.

Says he will be out 4-6 weeks.

I have no idea if that's true or not.

damn, that really sucks about Tracy. I'm glad we have good depth, but he is the bread and butter of the team.

What happened when he got hurt? Did someone run into him?

according to the N&O:

Quote :
"If there was a damper on the Wolfpack victory, it was the continuing pain that center Tracy Smith is feeling in his left knee. Smith started the game but left after diving for a loose ball. He played six minutes, scored four points and had a rebound."

per Rivals:

Quote :
"NC State senior forward Tracy Smith will not compete in the remaining games of the Charleston Classic in Charleston, S.C.

Smith, who played just six minutes in Thursday's 85-65 win over East Carolina, has returned to Raleigh to have his knee evaluated by NC State's orthopedic staff."

Shiiiiiitttt, but I suppose if it had to happen during the season, it should happen now rather than in late December or later...

Get well soon, Tracy

Not if Brown and Harrow keep playing like they did in the 2nd half.

Time for Howell, Painter and Vandenburg to step-up.... and Leslie.

This may be beneficial for these guys and the team in the long-run

Hopefully they can still bring the Charleston Classic trophy home. Do it for for Tracy!

You're right. It forces the young guys to grow up faster in addition to having one of the other bigs (Painter) step up.

I'm sure this will be good for the young guys in the long run, but damn it is not good for Tracy. Here's to hoping for a quick recovery and little to no recurring issues. We really need Tracy, especially once we get to ACC play

Georgetown and even GMU will be a challenge. @ Wisconsin and @ Syracuse could be brutal without him. Would hate to play Arizona without him (again) as well. All other nonconference games we should win with or without him, although San Diego could be more of a challenge than initially expected.

I love him but Harrow is a huge liability defensively at this point. Maybe it is his size but he refuses to fight over screens and consistently goes under them and gives away wide open 20 footers... It is three games now and it will turn in to a huge problem if it continues against better teams. Guys like Chris Wright aren't going to miss those..

i did think last night that harrow did a much better job of keeping his man in front of him. so you know, baby steps.

While Harrow has a lot of growing to do on defense, he does seem to have a pretty good knack for getting loose balls

But dude is just so small...I guess I see him under the basket and get mad when he doesn't box out somebody 100 lbs heavier than him

Boxing out is mostly mental and positioning at the right time. Even if someone is 100 lbs heavier if you are boxing out they are gonna have to foul you to get to the ball. Sure maybe you cant move them backwards but quickness should allow you to get to the spot first.

Unless Ralph Sampson's son is behind you and just jumps over you for the dunk

True but one would hope you would box out far enough away from the basket that either he couldnt dunk it or would have to go over the back to get it done. I can see where the 100 lb difference would make a difference there though.

And look, we obviously didn't recruit Ryan Harrow to play ball at State for his rebounding

Still, some of those crossover moves were just sick...had to rewind a couple of them last night

Exactly if we keep getting Harrow down low trying to box out a big man consistently we have much larger problems to deal with
