The better half cheered me up about this. However, the only disappointment really was seeing some of these local bands and such on the bottom of that list, like, need I mention the Tomahawks and Jon Lindsay?

a pitchfork review gave me high hopes for Julianna Barwick. It's pretty excrutiatingly airy so far.

Mount Eerie seems pretty awesome

anyway, i agree that last year's undercard was better, but this year still rules in a different way

PE was awesome, but the other headliners were generally underwhelming

flaming lips will put on the best show this city has seen, and gbv will drench it in booze-fueled pop goodness

i'm so stoked

also, it took more than a week for VIP to disappear last year, but i still say an hour or two this time

i am drunk right now at 3:36 but i will be up at 10 to buy a pair of VIPs

also my girlfriend is the bestest

Looking at the lineup again this morning with a clearer head, the top six or seven lines are definitely bigger and better than last year's. But, I still can't shake the feeling that past that, last year's lineup was deeper. Last year, there were a lot of smaller bands I was interested in listening to and maybe checking out; this year, there's some cool, intriguing stuff deeper in the lineup (Oneohtrix Point Never, Fight The Big Bull, Julianna Barwick, Xiu Xiu, Mount Eerie are a few), but I don't feel like there's as much of a dearth of up-and-coming, exciting, young bands as there was last year. Then again, it took a bit to familiarize myself with some of the names lower on the lineup; maybe that'll happen again this year.

Plus, in general, the vast majority of the lineup is indie rock. Feel like it was slightly more diverse last year.

All that being said, all in all, I still think it's a hell of a lineup and a hell of a job by Grayson and Lowenhagen and everybody at the Indy. They're definitely advancing the festival, and I'm still really, really excited about it this year.

i think it's top-heavy to try and get on the plus side monetarily...could be wrong, but more big(ish) names will pull more casual fans

on top of that, i have no doubt that some of the acts that are currently below the radar were picked with care, and there's a good chance that there's another best coast-like story or two in there as well
