^ great if true as Moxley can recruit. Who the heck is going to coach defense to this team though? Not Lutz.

Yeah seriously, lots of recruiters on the staff and offensive specialists, but no hint of defense

Confirmed by The Wolfpacker:

Talk about a heavy UNCC presence...

Robin of Moxley

i guess we better win every game by 20 if there isn't a defense.

if we won every game by 20, wouldn't that imply that we have at least a pretty good defense?

^^ I'd say only if we score < 80 points

higher than that, and it just becomes, "screw defense. We'll just outscore you."

I just talked to my 49er friend. He said Moxley is a badass recruiter, convinced Greivis to go to Maryland with him after he courted him a while at UNCC. He also said he was jerk, and a ball-hog in pick-up games.

i'm looking forward to recruiting in the upcoming years...seems like we should be able to pull some serious talent with the track record of Gottfried and his assistants.

Miami should go after Dino. He'd probably go for cheap, and he knows the ACC. He'd probably be better than any other candidate that's interested in the job too.

I was hoping Gaudio might round out the staff--how does Moxley compare? Or is it not really apples to apples?

For what its worth, this is the season standing when Lutz was HC and both Orlando Early and Rob Moxley were assistants at UNCC

1998–1999 Charlotte 23–11 10–6 T–3rd American NCAA 2nd Round
1999–2000 Charlotte 17–16 7–9 T–5th American NIT 1st Round
2000–2001 Charlotte 22–11 10–6 2nd American NCAA 2nd Round

Then Early left to Alabama to serve under Gottfried from 2001-2005, the high point of Alabama's basketball prowess under Gottfried (including the #1 ranking for 2 weeks)

2001–2002 Alabama 27–8 12–4 1st (West) NCAA 2nd Round
2002–2003 Alabama 17–12 7–9 4th (West) NCAA 1st Round
2003–2004 Alabama 20–13 8–8 T–2nd (West) NCAA Elite Eight
2004–2005 Alabama 24–8 12–4 T–1st (West) NCAA 1st Round

This is when Lutz and Moxley were coaches at UNCC

2001–2002 Charlotte 18–12 11–5 3rd American NCAA 1st Round
2002–2003 Charlotte 1l3–16 8–8 T–5th American
2003–2004 Charlotte 21–9 12–4 T–1st NCAA 1st Round
2004–2005 Charlotte 21–8 12–4 T–2nd NCAA 1st Round

Then Moxley left for Maryland for a year and UNCC went into the A-10...and UNCC went to shit.

If these results can be directly attributed to these coaches working together, we might have something great in our future.

My family is close friends with the Lutz's. My sisters played soccer with his niece in high school (she went on to play for the UNC women's soccer national championship team).

Quote :
"How often does a more or less career head coach become an assistant coach at a higher program?"

Lutz received a contract extension with UNCC that was supposed to go through the 2012-2013 season. When he was released, he was guaranteed to still get paid as long as he wasn't a head coach anywhere else. From my understanding of it, he is able to be an assistant anywhere in the country and still get paid Charlotte $$$. It is smarter for him to rebuild his image as an assistant while getting paid for an extra job than to go right back into head coaching.

I really like that Gottfried surrounded himself with both people he knows, head coaches, and people who KNOW the state of NC, and surrounding areas.

Hope this all works out for us.
