So I guess we need to start a third thread where people who have read all the books and are immune to spoilers can discuss things, right? 5/15/2012 11:11:53 AM |

or maybe some spoiler tags
Because while these work, you have to be premie and fuck writing out span tags whenever i want to discuss THE TOPIC OF A FUCKING THREAD just because someone wants me to cater to their butthurt lunacy.
And if homeboy actually thinks that he's going to make it all the way to the end of season 3/beginning of season 4 without getting the RW spoiled for him, he's got another thing coming. If you thought Snape Kills Dumbledore was egregious, just wait. It just takes a small handful of douchebags. 5/15/2012 12:16:21 PM |

Or maybe "hey that didn't happen in the books" shouldn't be considered a spoiler because it isn't. 5/15/2012 12:36:04 PM |

I've been contemplating some kind of world class spoiler about the RW which could be dumped into that thread, but it'd need to be something which couldn't readily be undone. Perhaps a PM to every. Single. Person. in that thread? LOL. Childish, I know, but could be entertaining. 5/15/2012 2:20:53 PM |

Please do not do that. It is one thing for us to poke fun at their petty complaining relating to mentioning small differing details or something that doesn't happen in the show that happens in the books. It is another thing to completely spoil the 2nd biggest plot twist in the series so far imo. 5/15/2012 2:29:42 PM |

right, i definitely do not advocate the PM spoilerage
nor do i condone mentioning the phrase Red Wedding in that thread, because just from context clues it could give hints of some dread event to come
anyway, the only thing lamer than being pissed about spoilers is being pissed about people being pissed about spoilers. so i suppose i'll let it go. 5/15/2012 3:46:36 PM |

lol again at a "spoiler" for a book that's been out for over a decade.
Just go read the synopsis at Wikipedia, skokiaan. 5/16/2012 8:36:22 AM |

it's a never ending circle. There should probably be a thread for each book in the series and each season in the TV series (as is done with a lot of shows on here already). But yeah, i'm aware i'll have stuff ruined for me as I try to do my job and monitor these threads. but i'm trying not to let my eyes read more than they should 5/16/2012 8:58:54 AM |

Reading A Dance With Dragons now, I'm beginning to see the series is similar to the saga of Dune.
That is, the novel world is expanding. These characters whom you thought weren't important in the earlier books come exploding on the pages, and the story gets older (that is, the back story become much more important) and deeper.
It is sometimes difficult to grasp who is where in the story, as well as who is with who.
Midway through A Feast For Crows, I started asking myself where they Tyrion, Jon, and Dany chapters were. When I got to the end, I was a bit floored. Now reading ADWD, I can see the need to split the novel, but I think it would have been better to release ADWD first, and then AFFC.
Even so...ADWD is pretty awesome so far. 5/20/2012 8:41:47 AM |

I just wanted to see her knife the guard. Obviously Harrenhal was vastly diff, but that's mainly because of her interactions with Tywin, which were all superb. 5/21/2012 1:14:45 PM |

yeah i actually thought the interaction between arya and big lion were shot pretty well, i still think they need to do more with the stark dire wolves, in the books they kick ass 5/21/2012 11:29:33 PM |
skokiaan All American 26447 Posts user info edit post |
They were smart to leave CG wolves out as major characters on the TV show as CG wolves are not compelling actors and they are boring. Only the aspies care about crap like this.
I'd be more concerned about the shitty acting/writing of major human characters such as Dany or Cersei, who were also badasses in the book but are completely annoying on the TV show.

Havn't seen any of the S2 episodes, but couldn't they have shot direwolf scenes in 1st person? 5/22/2012 8:03:00 AM |

^^Agreed on Cersei. Her character in the books is much better. As far as Dany goes, I've never liked her that much in the books anyway.

I've been an advocate (probably an annoying one) of more wolves since day 1. Just for a couple of plot devices.
- Ghost was definitely John's extra security blanket beyond the wall. - We're going to completely miss the scenes where Cat tells Rob to be wary of anyone Greywind doesn't like. (Hence the RW) - It was awesome hearing all those little instances where there was a huge dire wolf leading a pack of ravaging wolves in the wild all along Arya's story line through Westeros. (This is mainly just a treat being a reader, and doesn't really add to Arays character) 5/22/2012 8:08:53 AM |

I'm not sure I can read the show thread any more. Is it really so nuanced why Catelyn sent Jaime away with Brienne? She explicitly said why like 3 times. 5/22/2012 9:21:33 AM |

I started reading the books after S1 aired, so I had a preconceived notion of how Dany should look/sound, and I think it ruined the character for me. I don't have the same problem with Cersei, because I don't hate Lena Headey and I think she's a pretty good choice for Cersei. Not saying I hate the chick playing Dany, but she's annoying in the show.5/22/2012 9:52:19 AM |

And was Cersei really badass in the book? I thought she was an idiot and intentionally written so. 5/22/2012 9:59:03 AM |
CalledToArms All American 22025 Posts user info edit post |
I don't think she was a badass. So I guess I shouldn't have said "agreed" outright in my above post. I do agree her character was more interesting and more easily hated in the book though. Not interesting in a smart way though. Not sure how to describe it. All I know is that she was one of my most hated characters in the books and in the TV show I couldn't care less about her almost. In the show it seems like they have spent way too much time trying to make you sympathize with her or something.

Not sure how they are going to handle Arya's storyline now that she's left Harrenhal without releasing the Northern prisoners and getting the coin from Jaqen. I was hoping to see how they handled his face change too but I guess she'll have to meet up with him again some other time. 5/22/2012 12:00:09 PM |

Doesn't he give her the coin outside Harrenhal after she escapes? Even if I'm remembering it wrong they can still make that happen. 5/22/2012 12:48:06 PM |

Since I can't say this in the TV thread...I can't imagine the show will have Sansa leave with The Hound. That would be too big of a change that would have too many different ramifications they'd have to deal with. It would change Littlefinger's storyline pretty drastically. I have to believe they'll keep Sansa in King's Landing, that seems like too big of a change for them to work around.
But it did seem to strongly insinuate that she was about to leave with The Hound...We'll find out next week I suppose. 5/28/2012 2:21:22 PM |

i remember reading that shit and even I didn't understand WTF was going on. ACOK has got to be one of the worst books for Dany's pov. 5/29/2012 12:54:45 AM |

true, they don't explain enough of the old world/free cities and what powers/beliefs still exist there before you are thrown into a maze of doors on the right and blue skeletons trying to suck the life from you.
i was glad to see them go through with the Meryn Trant Mandon Moore double cross, because I was worried they wouldn't want to have that happen to the show's breakout star (Peter Dinklage). Still doubtful they'll truly portray the injury for what it truly becomes though.] 5/29/2012 7:44:57 AM |
