On the plus side, United's next sending off will be in a meaningless September game in two seasons if trends hold.

It's almost like that referee had no idea of United's history, their philosophy, and all that when he gave that red card.

if I were a United fan, I'd be pissed right now, obviously. That red card was complete bullshit.

But, and I swear this isn't just trolling, a red card does not equal 2 instant goals automatically. If Nani's red card is fully deserved, does the fact that United completely wilted in less than 10 minutes, with a lead and at home, look any different?

The team gave up after the red card and they really didn't have to.

If you are implying that we have been lucky, you obviously haven't watched any United matches. We don't make stupid challenges and commit idiotic fouls. That's how its possible.

Ok. Real Madrid have the best counter attacking team in the world and with that much quality in midfield its very easy to see how it happened. They were clueless for 60 minutes, not even one decent chance. Also Lopez saved them big time at the end of the match. Even with 10 men after the initial 15 minute spell, United were the better team. Those 15 minutes, Real Madrid dug in and rubbed salt on the wound.

It's a pretty amazing stat. Even Martin Tyler was surprised at it.

okay.

Nani was the glue holding everything together defensively against that Real counterattack and his absence totally explains two goals within 3 minutes of each other, a mere 7-10 minutes after his red.

Makes sense.

like I said, be mad all you want. I know I'd be mad if that happened to the US or Liverpool. But it didn't have to be that way. The defeat was not inevitable after the decision. I'm actually giving United a lot more credit than their own fans seem to be giving them...

There have been 1 or 2 instances that I can recall off the top of my head where we deserved a red in the last 18 months. (all of them last season). I can't recall one instance this year....

Are you kidding me? That sentence doesn't make sense at all. You are a smart man, you know how football works. Nani isn't the defensive glue but once he is off the team is obviously going to be outnumbered. 11>10 in football. Its elementary my dear Watson. Also one thing you should know by now is that United are weak defensively this year. Any advantage for the opposing team (Real Madrid no less) is obviously going to be exploited.

Of course it doesn't make sense. That was the point.

10 men teams have never held on to a 1-0 lead at home. Or at the very least, only conceded one more. Never. I am stupid for thinking the champions of England could do so.

I swear I'm not trolling. Yeah, Real were likely winners after the red card, only an idiot would argue otherwise. But why is it so unbelievable to expect United to hold out for longer than 10 minutes?!? They gave up. That would annoy me as a United fan once I got past the outrage about the red card, but whatever.

There was wave after wave of pressure coming. Real only needed one goal to force extra time.

United was sitting back and defending well but "comfortably" may be a bit of an exaggeration.

aimorris if you were a United fan there is one thing you would learn right away, this team never gives up. Say what you want but that is the one thing this team gets right. Not one team would have put up those shots on Lopez if this had happened to them. Lopez won Madrid the match tonight. He had 4 fantastic saves to keep Madrid ahead.

The red card is used to communicate that a player, substitute or substituted player has been sent off.

Only a player, substitute or substituted player may be shown the red or yellow card.

The referee has the authority to take disciplinary sanctions from the moment he enters the field of play until he leaves the field of play after the final whistle.

A player who commits a cautionable or sending-off offence, either on or off the field of play, whether directed towards an opponent, a team-mate, the referee, an assistant referee or any other person, is disciplined according to the nature of the offence committed.

The opposing team shall be awarded two goals within ten minutes of the sending off offense."

Cakir (The incompetent jackass) recent red card history is rather interesting. UEFA can't stand not to have their golden boys from Spain in the champions league? Would hardly be surprising if AC Milan get robbed as well....

Tonight: Nani

Dec 2012: Cahill (Chelsea) vs Corninthians
Fifa club world cup final

Sept 2012: Gerrard (England) vs Ukraina
FIFA World Cup Qualifier

Apr 2012: Terry (Chelsea) vs Barcelona
UCL Semi

March 2011: Balotelli (Man City) vs Dynamo Kiev
Europa League round of 16

I don't believe there is a conspiracy. This is me taking my anger out.

I knew wazza would come with some cunty, arrogant mad. Did not disappoint.

Aimorris has a valid point. The chips are against you after the sending off, but United folded like a beach chair at the pressure after losing an ATTACKING player. They could have dug in and galvanized but they were already defeated in their minds.

GOOD JOB, GOOD EFFORT UNITED

haha ribs you do not disappoint. For those of you who do not know the rules.

Careless means a player has shown a lack of attention or caution when making the challenge. NO FURTHER ACTION NEEDED IF ITS CARELESS

Reckless means a player acted without complete disregard of the danger to the opponent.
THE PLAYER WHO IS RECKLESS MUST BE CAUTIONED

Excessive force is when the player has far exceeded the use of necessary force and is in danger of injuring his opponent.
THE PLAYER SHOULD BE SENT OFF.

At worst Nani is being reckless, a yellow card. Retired ref's have come out and said they wouldn't have given him a red for that.

So if you are going to argue that Nani deserved a red then lets talk about what Lopez did to Vidic. He punched him while trying to win the ball on a corner. Lopez doesn't get the ball. Is Lopez allowed to do that? I do not believe Lopez did anything wrong, it wasn't a malicious challenge and the game goes on. If you can't see that the ref cocked up then you either really hate United or are a massive troll. Ribs fall into both categories.

aimorris I see your point but its just so stupid its not even worth arguing. The red card didn't lead to two goals but it clearly made it very easy for one of the best attacking teams to score those two goals.

ribs and aimorris are clowns. even after the red card United were almost back in the game. a couple brilliant saves from Lopez and a missed penalty call away from a 10man victory. i'm not mad about the loss, we played well and didn't win, that's life, but because United is involved these two want to act like Madrid just walked those 2 goals in, and terrible calls never have any effect on a team.

Terrible call.
United then folded and gave up the lead.
United woke up after losing the lead and Madrid needed more bad calls and great keeping to hold on.

Lol. Its amazing to me how some people think that was a terrible call.

Harsh? Yes. Wrong/terrible/stupid call? Absolutely not. The ref was justified in making that call. After all, so much is left to the judgement of referees in this game. Nanis boot is at Arbeloa's chest! People scream for reds on 50/50s when both players slide and studs come up in the act of the slide. As if that is somehow worse than what Nani pulled. Sure, Nani was playing the ball but you still have to be aware of your surroundings.

wazza, the book says no further action is necessary, but that doesn't mean you CAN'T give the red if the ref judges it to be bad enough.

But I shouldn't bother. You're already telling others that if they disagree they are either a troll or simply hate United. Categories in which I classify myself as neither.

Also, very classy by Rio. I thought the United mentality was above such childish bitching.
