To chime in on the venue discussion...

There's nothing wrong with Greensboro. Sure it's not a huge city and there's not a lot else to draw you there, but the downtown is nice, and if you are in from out of town you can go to Raleigh or Charlotte in 1.5 hours drive and have whatever you want.

The venue may not be top-of-the-line, but it's still nice, and it's bigger than anywhere else within 200+ miles. Charlotte just has the shitty bobcats arena. Maybe it's only my opinion, but it's small and there's nothing intimidating about the arena from inside or out. The ooooooohhhhhs and aaaaaaaahhhhhhhs in the Coliseum during a game are amazing. It's no mistake that they host concerts there all the time because of the good acoustics and reverberation. Nowhere else in the country besides North Carolina is ACC basketball taken as seriously. Schools move tv's into the classroom, people take off work or do nothing at work. From a tradition perspective I think the ACC tourney should be in ACC country. As everything else that is tradition in college sports gets whittled away, let's please hang on to some vestige and keep it in Greensboro.

Your description perfectly fits the Dean Dome and PNC which are both better and closer

Quote :
"I still don't see how Greensboro makes more sense than chapel hill or raleigh. You get a bigger, better venue and are closer for everyone.

Instead of picking, the best star studded year to compare, lets compare venue Averages

Greensboro: 85,761
MCI: 101,505
Philips: 117,120
Bobcats: 120,210
St. Pete Times: 133,614
Georgia Dome: 170,323

Georgia Dome attendance fell sharply the last time but basically people want to go to Florida this time of year anyway so you had people who weren't even major fans going in Tampa. Lets not pretend Duke State or UNC fans won't show up if they can't drive. Acc fanbase expands when you bring the tournament to new places.

[Edited on March 15, 2013 at 12:35 PM. Reason : you're cheating yourselves by putting it near the 3 best traveling fanbases. ]"

The numbers don't lie, size and location are not a factor

[Edited on March 15, 2013 at 12:57 PM. Reason : its 2013. people have airplanes. ]

Tradition for the sake of tradition is stupid. It needs to be in the largest venue that can be filled and is accessible to the most schools so that fans don't have to travel an unreasonable distance.

Now, I'm not sure where that would be, but those should be the criteria. "But, we've had it here a bunch!" isn't an argument that should carry any weight.

The dumbest move was when the tourney moved to a smaller venue the same year we expanded.

lol at the E Man's misleading average attendance numbers

the Greensboro Coliseum held like 7,000 people for the first few ACC tournaments

and about 15,000 people for the next 20 years or so

the numbers do lie

I'd rather Miami win honestly. A win over UVA and Miami would help the tourney seed more than UVA and BC.

The dean dome is not larger than the coliseum, what are you thinking?

Dean dome 21,750
Coliseum 23,500

Plus there are not enough hotels in Chapel Hill to accommodate all the out-of-towners

^ ^
Dean Dome - 21,750
Time Warner - 20,200
PNC - 19,772
Greensboro Coliseum - 23,500

If we could convince the NCAA to put off the season for a month, it could get warm enough to have it at Kenan.

Am I wrong or is it not a rule that you can't have the tournament at a team's home court? Sure all the other ACC schools would hop right on board with it being at Chapel Hill.

Can't decide if I'd rather this game go into about 10 overtimes to make whichever team that wins really tired, or if I'd rather State's game actually tipoff at about 2:30 instead of 5 oclock

actually I'd say lets go for 10 overtimes...make the Heels tipoff at midnight
