the refs (and freshmen mistakes - the barber out of control lay up -> bad transition defense -> open 3 was a backbreaker) kept missouri in the game. in a fairly reffed game (especially a fairly reffed home game) we win by 8-10. but you have to deal with that shit. we're going to get fucked by the refs against duke and unc 9/10 times anyway. the game was 50/50 with a minute and change to go and we lost it. that's what you gotta focus on and try to improve

1) our d against drives was pretty bad tonight, same reason we lost to Central.
2) someone please teach turner how to guard against a screen. The whole game the announcers were saying not to let them drive to their right and turner would just sit there and watch as they drove right every time.
3) playing defense has become a joke against anyone driving thanks to the new rule changes. Barber got screwed.
4) Glad to see washington step up tonight.

Came in here to say FUCK Missouri, seriously fuck you guys and the refs. Without the screwball reffing we win his game hands down, i felt like we gut mugged bad this game. Yeah, the team needs to improve to stay competitive in the ACC but I felt the team did enough to win this game.

Why do WE always get screwed? And with MULTIPLE fucking plays in games sometimes. I mean, I don't sound delusional if I say the refs want to screw us correct? How could he have missed the travel on the and one? And the lane violation? He called the lane violation the first time, but why not the second time?

It was as blatant as this for fucks sake. Fuck those faggots

Fun Fact: We are the only team in the ACC that our opponents have outshot us at the FT line.

And it's not like we are out there bombing threes ECU/Duke style. Shit gets old.

We had a 10 point lead and after they banked in a 3 we started to unravel, then when we started to fight back a bit and trade a few baskets, there was that bat shit insane call of a missed travel, a charge called a block, and then continuation given to the Missouri player on top of all that was missed to give them the lead.

Then it was classic NC State shit to the end, they couldn't miss, we hit a few to give the fans hope and then ultimately shitty FT shooting and extremely poor situational shooting did us in. For a game where we were absolutely in control for 35 minutes and had a shot to win the game in the final minute - so much went wrong. We shot at least 10 less FT's than our visiting opponent (I hate blaming the refs but that's shit), Warren went invisible the last 12 minutes (and what's worse is he only took 3 shots during that time - absolutely on Gott), Turner decided to shoot a heat check on the biggest possession of the night, etc. So much to feel good about only to cough it up at the end.

Blaming the refs? Really? Come the fuck on.

We lost because Barber played badly, Missouri got hot from behind the arc in the second half, our defense was questionable, and Warren was a non-factor in the last 10 minutes. The refs had nothing to do with it.

I think this game was our one chance to get considered for the tournament. Not even "make it in" but "get considered". At this point I'd say we're on the outside looking in for the NIT.

This team will be great next year (if Warren stays). Legit ACC title contenders. This year? Finishing over .500 is probably all we can reasonably expect.

Have people not realized yet that Warren gets about 80% of his points off of garbage buckets/offensive rebounds?? He's not exactly Julius Hodge off the dribble or Scott Wood coming off of a pick. I'm not saying we shouldn't have tried to run him an extra play or two...but that's not been our offense and he's not the type of player that you run plays for either. Sure, he'll get a couple buckets driving to the basket, but he's just a likely to force up a bad shot as well.

I'm just saying that it's not as simple as feeding your big man in the post, running Scott Wood off some screens, or isolating Cat Barber one-on-one.

Warren killed it a couple times off the dribble yesterday. The issue is he's so damn tired come the last 10 minutes of the game. Gottfried has to be smarter about his playing time he's not fatigued at the end of the game.

oh look - jbrick the mastermind here. TJ Warren has looked a million times better in the first than the second half. It's because he's fatigued. I'm saying he needs an extra 2-3 minutes of rest a game.

Seriously look beyond the numbers. We go as TJ goes - and TJ doesn't do much towards the end.

Also - no one said rest him during the first half.

Warren dropped about 20 pounds and got lean and mean in the offseason because he knew he would probably have to play every minute of every game this year. Him "getting tired" shouldn't be an issue.

And we can afford to take him out of the game if Barber is playing his normal self. But with Barber blowing chunks, you're really rolling the dice if you take TJ out. I know it seems like we should have won the game, but we also had a freshman go for a career high and Turner/Lee hit some REALLY long threes.

We're in trouble if Warren is going to get "tired" every game.

6 jumpers, 5 layups, 1 free throw = 80% garbage buckets

Its really a shame that the season is almost over and we don't play any more games against teams that might be ranked. We should really consider joining the ACC in basketball since we play it in every other sport.

Also, I didn't watch the game (moved to the stats model) so I can see clearly why we lost.

Too many players tried to do things out of their roles. Of course our defense is bad. It always will be bad. We can't change that until we change our coach. With that said, our offense will always be good and can be great if we play to our strengths.

We had the wrong guys shooting the wrong shots in that game.

1. Barber and Warren should not be taking 3 pointers unless they are wide open catch and shoot.
2. Vandy needs to take more shots. We only shot 41% that game. Vandy only shot 1 attempt. More work needs to be done to make sure he gets 5-10 shots per game. If you take those 3s away from Warren and Barber and throw it in to Vandy even if he sucks and makes 4/10 instead of 1/1 we win the game and get tons of fouls called, rebounds, and open things up for warren and others to finish.

3. Cat needs to shoot less entirely. He should only be driving to hit somebody else in these games against long guards.

4. Lee and Turner are the only players with my permission to shoot a 3 first option.

[Edited on December 29, 2013 at 10:59 AM. Reason : we do not play anything like an nba schedule. no way a college star gets tired with tv timeouts]

We actually lost that game because our offense sucked. Our d played as well as you can expect but clean blocks were fouls and charges were blocking fouls

4 of the 5 jumpers Warren made in the first 11 minutes of the game weren't off offensive rebounds

Just seems like a weird game to say he scores most of his points off garbage buckets when in the first half he was knocking down 8' floaters and 13' jumpers

yeah, defense was not a problem. Besides a couple of the open threes down the stretch, our guys played great D the entire game. They stayed in front of the guards, and got barreled over all game. The refs called them all blocking fouls instead of charges, but the defenders did everything possible they could do. They played good D and were punished for it (except for the token charge at the end of the game they gave to Lewis finally).

THIS. I love Warren and his game, but there is a difference between putting the ball on the floor slashing to the basket for one of his ridiculous(ly awesome) shots vs. handling the ball. He isn't a very good ball handler in that sense & it may have been because Barber was out of the game. He really should dump it off to the PG and let them facilitate. And I know he isn't the only one guilty of this, but please stop forcing bad long-range jumpers!!!

calling warren a garbage man isn't necessarily wrong, but it's kind of like calling zo a combo guard when he CAN play point

warren is probably the 2nd best player we have at creating his own offense on our team. now, that's not saying much, because cat is the only guy who can really get his own shot but a traditional garbage man is more like freeman than tj
