didnt bother watching the game obviously but that's a pretty nice win even without their king stud not playing anymore.

Especially with TJW playing like dogshit and Cat still struggling.

Team can't shoot worth a crap but got to the line a ton and protected the basketball. Two key components for every good team so that's a good sign for once.

We're also doing an amazing job guarding the 3-pointers this year. If we could fix our FT defense, rebounding, and force a few turnovers every once in awhile we'd be a decent team.

Just not a tourney one. Still thinking CBI, but that definitely helped our NIT resume a lot getting yet another road win against a major conference opponent.

nah im not going to watch this season. ive seen enough meaningless games over the years as a state fan. ill tune in for the UNC games though, i really only care if we beat them. Possibly the acc tournament just in case we make a run.

im just not that interested anymore unless we ever actually are good. i mean its dumb even when we should be good we aren't so why bother watching when we aren't good

Vandy showing some leadership, ha!

I want to reach through my tv and strangle him every time he throws his hands out at his team after he's let the other team's big fuck his day up.

no in all honesty i havent seen a single state basketball game this season. i really cant recall a single basketball game ive watched except the 2nd half of UNC-kentucky at some graduation party.

football i watched la tech b/c it was the first game. clemson b/c i always go out on thursdays. duke b/c a friend was in town that wanted to see it. and carolina because i wanted to.

That's it. Not that interested in state sports anymore. maybe if we ever get competitive. The squandering of RW, Glennon, and Rivers. Along with that last basketball season debacle was enough to get me off the train at least temporarily. Id rather just read the box scores and save the 2-3 hours of game watching.

I like the nfl and nba.

I have been critical of Turner this year but I will give him props for a good game last night. I don't remember any silly turnovers or his man blowing right by him for easy baskets. This was the most comfortable he had looked all year.

This shit is crazy. A few times last night he was guarding the perimeter and their big got a pass uncovered under the basket for an easy 2. Vandy looks around like, "who the fuck is guarding the big dude?"

Vandy's clearly not the brightest, but he stepped his game up compared to Pittsburgh in which he went into obscurity. Also, i cant wait to see BJ lose some more weight and pick up some more offensive moves next season as i saw it several times this year that he can be a game changer. Sometimes he comes off the bench and absolutely dominate on defense, but can only hold this up for a good two minutes. Still good nonetheless for a true freshman.

there were still a couple plays where he got lost on D but he was better and didn't try to go hero mode on offense

our role players did very well last night which is a big reason we won in a game tj and cat struggled. nd tried to take away tj at the expense of the rest of their defense - same strat they used against duke and parker and we did what we needed to in response

Great road win especially when considering Cat and Warren weren't at their best. Other guys stepped up. I thought Lewis played well. He's been struggling lately but we needed him after Cat got off to another shaky start and Lewis stepped up and played well.

^^Turner took one three that was just terrible, but still made 2-3 from deep.

I rarely feel good about his shots when he shoots, but somehow they keep going on.

His shot selection is pretty bad and his mechanics don't always look right ... but if they go in, then fuck it.

Speaking of shot selection, Lee is apt to throw up a couple WTF 3s each game it seems. Early in the shot clock or in transition. And he hasn't exactly proven to be a consistent threat from 3.

I'm wondering what people's thoughts on the 3/4 press was? I'm also wondering if Warren wasn't a little bit more rested because of it?

He just had to jog between two guys, but by the time the ball for ND was in the half court - it was 20 seconds of D instead of ~29 or so. Wonder if that didn't help rest him.

yeah when you've got 3 starting nfl QBs (2 of which are pro bowlers) and the best you've got to show it for is a Gator Bowl win over Notre Dame and a few 5-3 seasons in the ACC...yeah you squandered that.

---back to basketball---

Anya is really coming along. He still needs to drop some weight and get better conditioned, but that will come in time. He's progressing quite nicely. And man...Freeman is just awful at FTs. 1/3 last night and now 11/35 on the season. I'm really surprised to see Turner shooting 43% from 3...it sure doesn't seem like he's shooting that well. But I'm glad to see it.

Yes because it's Priv vs the opposing team. Stuff like o-lines, secondary, d-lines, linebackers make no difference to the result

There isn't a person in our top 9 that I cringe when they come in. Freeman is about the only one that I worry about shooting, but that's only when he's not around the rim...because he has decent touch. Our team is extremely solid overall. We've got good rebounding, good shot blocking, two really good ball-handlers, a mismatch at small forward (warren), good passers, and good finishers.

We're lacking in three-point shooting...but it's not horrible. We also don't have a great low-post scorer...but that's true for about 3/4s of every other NCAA team...and at the same time we DO have size and big guys who can finish...they just lack good post moves (Washington has them...just need to beef it up a bit...Anya has some too, just needs to lose the weight).

As far as low post scoring...I don't think our big men look to post up and shoot over people. They've been trained to look for the slasher 3/4 coming down from the free throw line for an easy pass.

Alot of people comment on how we have great passing big men, and we do. Sometimes I think it's simply because we look to pass first in those situations and most defenses aren't prepared for it.

However, Anya and Washington both show promise as post sorcerers in the future.

I like this year more than last because they expectations are lower and we still look pretty good at times. When we lose I just chalk it up to inexperience rather than just sucking.

Turner is the only one who should be shooting 3s. Until they can prove to hit a high percentage in practice, they should be allowed to shoot 3s in the game. It's much better to just work for a better shot. Layups and dunks and FTs are what we should be looking for instead off Lee or Warren jacking up long 3s.

This is a good thing, not a bad thing. Scoring out of the low post is overrated. Unless you can get a dunk, you should just pass the ball.

And how do you know they can't hit a high percentage in practice, skooiann? Lee was known for his 3-point shooting in JuCo, and I've heard that Lewis shoots well in practice.

for comparison, Wood shot 44% last season

I think what makes people think Turner isn't shooting 3's well is the timing/importance of his shots and the fact that when he misses he barely hits iron. He had a key three against ECU, but can have some bad misses when we really need a 3.

^^^ Turner seems to be a little more inconsistent game to game. Wood was either on for a few games and off for a few games so it's skews the eye comparison some.

I agree with all of this, but our biggest problem is still crappy and inconsistent defense and we commit too many fouls (we did better in the foul area against a less physical ND team though). Turnovers are still a big issue too, but that can be corrected over time if the Cat, Turner, Lee all recognize the need to slow down a bit in certain situations.
